Biologically Appropriaten Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, and that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five biologically appropriate principles. They start with a variety of unmatched fresh meat inclusions that are rich in protein. Orijen includes whole prey ratios that naturally provide the nutrients your dog needs. Carbs are limited, but there are plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and cleansing botanicals.

Orijen Dry Dog Food

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three whole prey elements in specific ratios.

  • Meat (70−85%) High meat inclusion means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.
  • Edible Bone (5−10%) Bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin without any artificial additives.
  • Organ Meat (10−15%) Fresh liver and tripe are richly nourishing sources of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc, and vitamins A, B and D.

Orijen believes you have a right to know where the ingredients in your dog's food come from. From nest-laid eggs and wild northern pike to juicy orchard-grown apples and crisp garden greens, each ingredient is sourced from local producers they know and trust.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 1019 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Seriously worth it! I met Gunny, an 8 year old English Bull dog 10 months ago. I fell in love with him (and his man, immediately ). Gunny has had hip surgery and suffers from arthritis . A weight issue exacerbated his problems. His mobility was limited to say the least . A few hours of online research for a grain free dog food(the inflammation connection , I won't go into it....) led me to Orijen. Less than 2 months later there are significant changes. We have a slimmer, extremely more active dog. Gunny runs now instead of trudging, he is satisfied with less food, his flatulence has reduced by at least half,YEAHHH!!! We have also noticed a big difference in coat condition. I had a grooming shop for 16 years, his shedding has reduced by at least 75% . I would recommend Orijen for that reason alone. Needless to say we are thrilled with Orijen ( and still in love with each other, Gunny, his man and I!) Now if we could only get my cat FIDO EARL to come around . But she IS a cat........ Rated 5 out of 5 by Really glad I swapped I had my dog on TOTW and he did well for a while, then he got to where he wasnt eating it very good. I wanted to try something different so I got two small bags, one was Orijen Original grain free, the other Acana Appalachian Ranch. I put a small bowl of each food, his current brand, Taste of the Wild, the new bag of Acana Appalachian Ranch, and the Orijen. My dog went for the Orijen First and devoured it. He was sniffing around the bag like he wanted more, but then he started eating the small bowl of the Acana. Now, after about two weeks of trying to use up these two bags, I have decided that he seems to really like both, but would chose the Orijen First if he has a choice. His fur/coat was already shiny, but now, he looks like he has pixie dust sprinkled on him...he just sparkles and looks so healthy. I can tell he feels good as well. He is like a puppy jumping around and playing. I am really impressed with this food. It's a little expensive but the company handles every aspect of manufacturing this food. Acana and Orijen are both made by Champion Dog foods and this company is truly unique. They use local farmers and do not outsource any part of The process and only quality products are used. Thank you for a quality product! August 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by I have a Golden Retriever(75lbs) of love I rotate food with every bag so my boy is quite used to variety. In fact, he loves every time we open a new bag. Still, this is one of his favorites. I am well satisfied with the new ingredients after the location change. It didn't bother him a bit. His coat is luxurious and gorgeous. Never a hot spot or matting, even near the ears. September 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by My dog goes crazy for this stuff I have a 2-year old 13 lb rescue (JRT/Poodle mix) and have dabbled in different brands since adopting her. It felt like a splurge to try Orijen but she was struggling with some itching in early fall that I wasn't sure was from her food or seasonal allergies. I am also very particular about my human family's food, we try to be organic and non-GMO as much as possible and I really wanted a high quality food for her as well. Anyway, it certainly passes the taste test. I've never seen her react this way to any other brand, she just inhales it and doesn't leave one morsel behind. She is healthy and happy and I see no reason to switch - she just passed her yearly vet check-up with flying colors. It's pricey but she's a small dog so I don't go through bags quickly but I think it would be worth it for a St. Bernard. My hope & ultimate goal is a foundation of high quality nutrition will keep her less likely to have cancer down the road, so many of my friends have lost their dogs to cancer lately. December 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Orijen dry dog food has everything I've been looking for and my dogs love it! I've been looking for a dry dog food for my dog with skin issues and digestive problems. Orijen is exactly what I've been looking for and what's even better is that my dogs love it! Orijen has my dogs feeling better, looking better, their energy level is up, and they digest this product extremely well! No more incessant chewing of their skin! I have finally found a product I can use for life with confidence. Thank you! September 7, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Picky dog will eat this - sometimes Since Acana foods has changed their formula (used to get Ranchlands), I've been searching for a food my picky dog will eat. She prefers this food over some others, but still not like Ranchlands. I think it was a little less expensive? September 17, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great food for small dog My small dog (chihuahua) loves this food and the size of the kibble is manageable (not as tiny as food specially designed for small dogs but he still eats it fine). This is my favorite food for him although I do like to change things up and give him Royal Canin as well, or mix the two up. September 15, 2016
