Carbs are limited, but there are plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and cleansing botanicals.

Orijen Dry Dog Food

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three whole prey elements in specific ratios.

  • Meat (70−85%) High meat inclusion means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.
  • Edible Bone (5−10%) Bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin without any artificial additives.
  • Organ Meat (10−15%) Fresh liver and tripe are richly nourishing sources of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc, and vitamins A, B and D.

Orijen believes you have a right to know where the ingredients in your dog's food come from. From nest-laid eggs and wild northern pike to juicy orchard-grown apples and crisp garden greens, each ingredient is sourced from local producers they know and trust.

Orijen Puppy Large Breed Grain-Free Dry Dog Food is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 422.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Food, but still think it's a little pricey. So far this food has been great for my 15 week old Dogue de Bordeaux puppy. He likes the food, though he still likes to try and steal his big brothers food. You can tell that it is a high quality food as soon as you open the bag. My only complaint is that the food is really expensive for a 25lb bag. I still find it hard to believe that I am paying that much for dog food (and only 25lbs of it). Let's be honest 25lbs doesn't go that far when you are feeding a mastiff puppy. However, I believe that this food and the nutritional benefits that it offers my puppy are well worth it. There isn't another food on the American market that can even touch it's quality. I would love it is Orijen would find it in their hearts to keep the recipe/nutritional values the same, but not charge you as much for the food. Everyone should have the ability to feed their dogs such good food, but let's be honest not everyone can afford to feed their dogs an $80(plus) dog food.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BUYER BEWARE!!! We started our German Shepherd on this food and he absolutely loved it. Crystal white eyes, beautiful coat, growing like a weed (60lbs at 6 months!). I bought the 28.6lb bag from Chewy primarily and you could just tell by the color and smell how great this dog food was - our dog devoured it. However this month I noticed they were out of the big bag so I went to my local store to purchase it (no 28.6lb bag there either so I bought the 25lb) and my pup would not touch the new formulation (smaller kibble, slight change in color, much different smell). I took it back to the store and the manager told me that Orijen decided to change the formulation, giving you less product with more filler and less meat. What a disappointment. He (the manager) was wildly disappointed in the brand as well, but suggested I try Canagan, the American alternative premium food. I went home with Canagan Large Breed and he seems to be ok on that but unfortunately Chewy does not carry Canagan. Hope to see it in the line up soon. I would NOT recommend Orijen, so disappointing when a great brand like this lets their loyal customers (and more importantly, their animals) down.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Terrible Diarrhea with New Formula I'm so glad I checked these reviews so I know what is wrong with my 3-month old puppy. My 8-year old lab also eats Orijen, and I recommend the brand to every dog owner I know. I did notice the kibbles for the puppy food were much smaller than the previous bag, but I didn't know it was a totally different formula. My puppy has had horrible diarrhea for days. I have been so worried, thinking maybe he was exposed to parvovirus. I'm glad to realize that's not the case, but I'm really disappointed with Orijen. How about putting a sticker on the bag that says "New Formula" or some other indicator so we know ahead of time and can make the proper gradual transition. There's no way to return the food and no way to get the old formula back to make it a gradual transition. We're all just stuck with poor puppies and their upset stomachs. Very frustrating!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not as good as the Canadian product We were feeding a Chesapeake Bay Retriever puppy the Canadian made Orijen Puppy Large Breed and were very happy. Made with Canadian ingredients the kibbles were large, moist, and smelled strongly of fish. As did his stool. Even at night I knew when he made stool because the neighborhood smelled like a crab boil. The new formula is made with ingredients native to Kentucky, presumably carp and meth. The kibble is much smaller and rock hard with much less odor. I'm not going to knock the nutritional content, but I didn't care for the smaller size, since the dog could now wolf his food back in seconds. It was getting time to change him to adult food anyway, so we have moved on to Orijen Tundra Dry which Chewy doesn't carry. The online vendor which does offer Tundra with autoship has terrible and unreliable customer service. I hope Chewy will begin carrying Tundra Dry so I can again enjoy Chewy's gold standard service.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They ruined a great food I have an extremely picky eater in my bloodhound puppy. I went through every kind of large breed dog food out there to get him to eat. I was overjoyed when he LOVED Orijen. He's been eating like a champ for months, and suddenly, stopped eating this past week with this new bag. I noticed the food looked different, and obviously, he did too. He won't eat this new formula. I'm so disappointed in Orijen. I had hoped to keep him on this brand throughout his life stages, but now I'm back to the drawing board and finding a new dog food brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DONT BUY IT!! Like the previous reviews. We have been using this for the past 6 months with our lab pup. All was great! She ate no problem. Her coat was crazy shiny all great pooping. Then without notifying anyone. The product no longer comes from Canada. It is now being made in a new plant in Kentucky with more fillers. The current product is TOTALLY different then the Canadian version! Now we have diahrera and throwing up. She won't touch the food at all! Save your money and move on!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good for this picky eater My rottweiler is 1.5yes old now and his entire life I've been trying to find something that he'd not only be eager to eat but that would agree with his stomach. I've tried food for sensitive stomachs which worked great until he just stopped eating it randomly. I mixed this food in with his old food and ran out of his old food before the 14 day transition period. His poop was like soft served ice cream for 4 days before it started firming up. He's almost 100% now and he's so eager to eat now, powering through meals without stopping. The ingredients in this food are great! I didn't realize how many good things were in this dog food until I got it home. I've heard great things about this brand and it's the only one for my pet and I that's stayed true to the reviews. For those who are thinking it's pricey, it's worth it. I try to feed my rotti the best food and this is definitely amongst the best brands in the world. Hopefully as time passes I can say this was the only food I fed my dog since he was 1.5yrs old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Competitors' Ingredients Don't Compare!!! I own two catahoula leopard puppies and as a health and fitness coach, I found it hypocritical if I didn't provide the highest standard of nutrition for them as I hold for myself (I would prefer a raw diet but I just don't have that kind of time). Orijen was recommended to me from a dog trainer who is extremely particular in what she feeds her dogs. After thorough side-by-side ingredient research across many brands, Orijen proved to be the very best. I even looked at switching recently to save a bit of money but I just can't do it. The competitors' ingredients just don't compare. My pups are wild and crazy and always so full of energy with a shiny, excellent coat. I never ever give them a bath because they don't stink and just don't need it. I'm extremely pleased with their slow rate of growth (9 mo. old and only half the weight of their parents) since they are large breed puppies and I believe the formulation of the food is the reason for that. I will use Orijen for life! :)
