Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, and that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five biologically appropriate principles. They start with a variety of unmatched fresh meat inclusions that are rich in protein. Orijen includes whole prey ratios that naturally provide the nutrients your dog needs. Carbs are limited, but there are plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and cleansing botanicals.

Orijen Dry Dog Food

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three whole prey elements in specific ratios.

  • Meat (70−85%) High meat inclusion means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.
  • Edible Bone (5−10%) Bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin without any artificial additives.
  • Organ Meat (10−15%) Fresh liver and tripe are richly nourishing sources of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc, and vitamins A, B and D.

Orijen believes you have a right to know where the ingredients in your dog's food come from. From nest-laid eggs and wild northern pike to juicy orchard-grown apples and crisp garden greens, each ingredient is sourced from local producers they know and trust.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 412 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Food, but still think it's a little pricey. So far this food has been great for my 15 week old Dogue de Bordeaux puppy. He likes the food, though he still likes to try and steal his big brothers food. You can tell that it is a high quality food as soon as you open the bag. My only complaint is that the food is really expensive for a 25lb bag. I still find it hard to believe that I am paying that much for dog food (and only 25lbs of it). Let's be honest 25lbs doesn't go that far when you are feeding a mastiff puppy. However, I believe that this food and the nutritional benefits that it offers my puppy are well worth it. There isn't another food on the American market that can even touch it's quality. I would love it is Orijen would find it in their hearts to keep the recipe/nutritional values the same, but not charge you as much for the food. Everyone should have the ability to feed their dogs such good food, but let's be honest not everyone can afford to feed their dogs an $80(plus) dog food. January 20, 2017
Rated 2 out of 5 by Terrible Diarrhea with New Formula I'm so glad I checked these reviews so I know what is wrong with my 3-month old puppy. My 8-year old lab also eats Orijen, and I recommend the brand to every dog owner I know. I did notice the kibbles for the puppy food were much smaller than the previous bag, but I didn't know it was a totally different formula. My puppy has had horrible diarrhea for days. I have been so worried, thinking maybe he was exposed to parvovirus. I'm glad to realize that's not the case, but I'm really disappointed with Orijen. How about putting a sticker on the bag that says "New Formula" or some other indicator so we know ahead of time and can make the proper gradual transition. There's no way to return the food and no way to get the old formula back to make it a gradual transition. We're all just stuck with poor puppies and their upset stomachs. Very frustrating! Rated 5 out of 5 by Expensive but worth it. Had my pup on taste of the wild since we got him. Needed to feed 4 1/2 cups a day and he never had firm stools. Switched to orijin 3 cups a day and have seen a dramatic improvement in firmness of stool. Also, TOTW would sit in his bowl for hours, now he does the happy dance for orijin. We are even able to use orijin as training treats he likes it so much. Only down side is it has a fish odor but I think it's what makes him like it so much. Ingredient list is the best I have seen, besides freeze dried raw food. January 19, 2017
Rated 5 out of 5 by Orijen pups for life! Fantastic food! There are very few food brands that I feel comfortable feeding my fur babies and Orijen and ACANA are both on that list. Quality human grade food, you can see where there food was grown, freeze dried meats, they use fruits and vegetables for their carbohydrate sources, and zinc is the only supplement added because it's the only one that needs to be added! The food is naturally so nutritious it doesn't need synthetic added vitamins and minerals. Very very pleased with this food and I reccomend it to everyone I know. January 13, 2017
Rated 5 out of 5 by My dogs love it. I have been feeding my dogs Castor and Pollux Organics.... They enjoy this stuf. My new 10 month old puppy was pickey at the foster home and went through many foods of lesser quality. refusing to eat. But both dogs Enjoy Castor and Pollux, but they Love Orijen, yes it costs more, but the dogs love it. January 17, 2017
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best food My golden retriever puppy thrived on this food. Got a lot of compliments on his shiny coat. Healthy energy. Love that it's made of real food and not chicken byproduct mixed with synthetic vitamins. Just wish it wasn't so expensive but I guess you get what you pay for January 15, 2017
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good for this picky eater My rottweiler is 1.5yes old now and his entire life I've been trying to find something that he'd not only be eager to eat but that would agree with his stomach. I've tried food for sensitive stomachs which worked great until he just stopped eating it randomly. I mixed this food in with his old food and ran out of his old food before the 14 day transition period. His poop was like soft served ice cream for 4 days before it started firming up. He's almost 100% now and he's so eager to eat now, powering through meals without stopping. The ingredients in this food are great! I didn't realize how many good things were in this dog food until I got it home. I've heard great things about this brand and it's the only one for my pet and I that's stayed true to the reviews. For those who are thinking it's pricey, it's worth it. I try to feed my rotti the best food and this is definitely amongst the best brands in the world. Hopefully as time passes I can say this was the only food I fed my dog since he was 1.5yrs old. August 2, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by They ruined a great food I have an extremely picky eater in my bloodhound puppy. I went through every kind of large breed dog food out there to get him to eat. I was overjoyed when he LOVED Orijen. He's been eating like a champ for months, and suddenly, stopped eating this past week with this new bag. I noticed the food looked different, and obviously, he did too. He won't eat this new formula. I'm so disappointed in Orijen. I had hoped to keep him on this brand throughout his life stages, but now I'm back to the drawing board and finding a new dog food brand. January 1, 2017
