Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

The PetSafe® Pawz Away® Indoor Pet Barrier keeps your pet away from a certain room, away from trash, off furniture, etc. Just place the Barrier Transmitter near the area your pet should avoid. The Barrier Transmitter sends a spherical radio signal, reaching up to 12 feet in diameter or a 6 foot radius. Your pet wears a Receiver Collar with Contact Points that touch his neck. When your pet enters the Barrier Area, he’ll hear a series of audible tones from the Receiver Collar and he will feel a safe Progressive Static Correction, delivered through the Contact Points on his neck. The Progressive Static Correction will get his attention, but will not cause harm. The correction continues until your pet leaves the Barrier Area. The PetSafe® Pawz Away® Indoor Pet Barrier has been proven safe, comfortable, and effective for pets at least 6 months old and 5 pounds or more.

Which fences work with which pet proofing barriers?

If you already have a PetSafe in-ground fence, you can use the same collar with our pet proofing barriers. Purchase an extra barrier and place it in an area you don't want your pet to access. Choose from indoor and outdoor barriers.

Wireless fences aren't compatible with our pet proofing barriers.

  • Paws Away does its job

    By on

I have been using the PAWS Away system for about one month and it is doing what I hoped it would do. I have a 10 lb Bichon and the little guy is smart and could knock over even a large, heavy trash can. He would also wait for us to leave the room and jump on a chair to look for food on the kitchen table! However, this happens no longer. I recommend getting the Mini Round "pucks" for specific items such as garbage cans, regular size "pucks" (THIS PRODUCT) for general areas like a table (put underneath it with velcro or heavy duty double sided tape) or entering a room (behind the door perhaps) and the threshold bar for stairs. Start out with the range at max and as your pet learns not to I have been using the PAWS Away system for about one month and it is doing what I hoped it would do. Start out with the range at max and as your pet learns not to go there you can gradually reduce the zone if desired and to maximize battery life. Remember you will need to remove the collar at night and put on again each morning so if that is not something you will do, I would not recommend this for your pet. That is a lot easier than cleaning fancy rugs from urine or a garbage can that has been ransacked by your pet. If you have 2 pets it has an AB mode to distinguish one pet from the other say if an untrained puppy is not allowed somewhere that an older pet is welcomed. … more

  • Keeps the dog away

    By on

Most of the time it keeps the dog away from the cat litter box. I have 3 of them sitting right next to the boxes. My dog will go out of the way to avoid. Finally some peace of mind.

Works great. Didn't take long for my dalmatian to understand he had to stay away from the areas where I placed the disc.

  • This pet barrier does the trick.

    By on

Our beagle would sit on the couch by the window sunning herself. But when she saw another dog outside, she would bite and tear my sofa. I put the pet barrier on my sofa and it keeps her away. After a couple days, she learned to stay off the sofa even without the collar! I have another pet barrier on my kitchen counter top to keep her from getting into the garbage.

  • Great for dogs

    By on

I have two of these zones in my home, for my Irish Setter. This is an adolescent dog full of energy. She is able to jump up ON TOP of the kitchen counter, and tear up anything that a tall person can reach. I have one zone on the good leather sofa, and it keeps her completely off of it - she steers clear of it completely. I also keep one in the office near the book shelves since she likes to steal books and papers and tear them up. I highly recommend these zones for an indoor dog to keep them away from anything you value.
