Rated 5 out of 5 by Clover Wish I had used this from the beginning!
I have a 5 year old docile pup who startles easily and for whatever reason behaves differently with other dogs when she's on-leash vs. off-leash. We live in a very dog-friendly neighborhood so it's been a challenge to find the right method to correct her when she lunges at another dog (behavior she never exhibits at her daycare). We tried several other popular collars. I really paid attention to the training DVD and followed it to the letter. We are in week two of training now and she is completely compliant (walks right by my side, no pawing at the leader) about 90% of the time. I believe with my patience (& treats for good behavior) she will learn to self-correct and accept the leader 100% of the time. Also, stopping unwanted behavior is very humane. With the proper fit it's clear to see this IS a totally humane and safe leader. We've used a prong collar and a collar to deliver a vibration/noise and never had these results. I'm just sorry I didn't buy this years ago and so happy I have one now!

I have an 11 lb. Poodle-Maltese mix. First I purchased the small based on the sizing recommendations published by PetSafe. I could tighten it to fit around his head and snout, but if he rolled around with it long enough, he could manage to flip the fastener and loosen the strap around his muzzle.
I was extremely discouraged because this product has such amazing reviews. I returned the small size for the petite size and now, it works PERFECTLY.
If he gets excited by something and starts pulling like a sled dog, the collar turns him around 180 degrees so that he looks at me and we can regroup and behave calmly WITHOUT hurting him! No choking or snorting or discomfort of any kind! It really is gentle--SO much better than a regular collar or harness.
I also tried the PetSafe Easy Walk harness and for a dog as small and low to the ground as mine is, it did not work properly. Any tension on the leash pulled his front legs up off the ground as opposed to pulling his whole body straight in my direction.

I LOVE Gentle Leader! It takes a little people training, but once you get used to keeping the lead loose, this is just the easiest way to train a dog to walk nicely by your side. Highly Recommend!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Nolana Helps control the dog, but is poor quality
I was disappointed in the Gentle Leader after hearing some good things about it. It is definitely helpful in controlling my reactive dog, but I only used it a few times before the plastic clasp that holds the dog's nose/muzzle in place snapped off right in my hand. I returned it and will not try it again. I found other reviews of the product elsewhere and saw that several other people experienced same or similar problems. My recommendation is to explore competing products and try to find one that it is more robust.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Wick52 A good tool
A head strong airedale/welch terrier mix needed a bit more focus for walking, heeling and in class. He doesnt love it but has gotten use to it. Does everything the trainer said it would. Took some adjustment for me. Should watch dvd again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Scouser Item at described, good value
The Gentle Leader is easy to put on with the included instructions and CD. I think the cost at Chewy.com is good value and it was shipped quickly.
I would recommend this to a friend.

Kiki, my Schnauzer-mix weighs only 30# but is so strong and muscular he can pull my 115# down the street without the Gentle Leader. This is his 3rd one. We used them until they are nearly worn out. I highly recommend the product plus the cost at Chewy and their great customer service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by lady62 Interesting concept.
Purchased this gentle lead because we have a 6 mo. old doberman puppy. Was having trouble trying to walk her as she has sooo much puppy energy and strength. I put this collar on and tried it in the back yard. She resisted for awhile but started to calm down alot. Then took a short walk up the street... she still has some problems walking but it's just puppy stuff. all in all I think this is a great idea. It does not hurt her neck in any way and commands her to pay attention to what I want not what she wants. I would recommend this to anyone with a "problem doggie child" ! I am hoping that with more practice with her she will do better.
