Description

Food sensitive dogs can benefit from Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets HA Hydrolyzed Canine Formula, a unique vegetarian dog food that features simple proteins and low-allergen carbohydrates designed to minimize the risk of food allergic reactions. It offers dietary benefits that provide optimal nutrition while meeting your adult dog's or growing puppy's special needs.

Key Benefits

  • Food sensitivities generally appear in pets as gastrointestinal upset and/or intense scratching or itching. It can develop at any life stage, even after eating the same food for years without problems. Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets HA has been specifically formulated to help manage food sensitivities with a single protein source.
  • This vegetarian formula contains a single hydrolyzed protein source that is highly digestible for optimum nutrient absorption. Hydrolyzing means that the protein has been broken down into smaller components, specifically an average molecular weight below 12,200 daltons. Because of this, it's less likely to cause a negative response in your food-sensitive pup.
  • A single, low allergen carbohydrate source is included to minimize the risk of food related reactions. It's a source of Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) which don't require energy for absorption, use, or storage.
  • Suited for dogs that have food allergic gastroenteritis or dermatitis, food intolerance, inflammatory bowel disease, or pancreatitis.
  • Made in the USA!

  • Expensive But Works

    By on

My dog has many food allergies and a very sensitive stomach. After trying many other premium brands and not having much success, my veterinarian suggested I go with a hydrolyzed formula. It was an expensive option, but the only one that did not cause her to have discomfort and make her vomit. That said, Chewy offers this brand for about 15 bucks cheaper than my vet, even after Chewy themselves raised the price on this not too long ago. Combined that with the free shipping and the every three month auto fulfillment, it's a pretty good deal all around. I have scoured pet stores and other websites, but I have yet to match or beat Chewy's price and convince.

  • BEST Dog Food ... and we've been through MANY!

    By on

I was SO EXCITED when not only could I buy the ONLY food our adorable Pug can eat with NO ITCHING, (he seems as he gets older he's more prone to allergies), but I can save a lot of money buying it online. Thank You chewy.com for making our day, lives and health so much happier!

  • The answer to my dog's problems

    By on

Our chocolate lab has allergy issues with skin and digestive symptoms. We have tried many foods made for sensitivities of both issues without success. Our vet recommended hydrolyzed foods and we found that Purina particularly did the job. The skin around her eyes and her gums was always bright pink and this has toned down now. The skin areas under her neck are much smoother now, even under her collar and no more continuous scratching or licking. Definitely worth switching.

  • Great for my dog with allergies

    By on

She was put on this diet since our vet had a suspicion that our dog became allergic to an ingredient in the food we were giving her. My dog isn't very picky, but I was worried when I saw that the food looked almost like Kix cereal (I was also very skeptical of Purina brand in general) She seems to like it though and she hasn't gotten sick since she's been on the diet.

My Wheaton Terrier was ill fading at age 10. I took her to U.C. Davis Vet Hospital and after extensive tests and minor surgery, she did well! The vet prescribed Purina HA for her. I feed her only this product. She is a happy 15 years young and doing great!

  • This is the best anti-allergen dog food.

    By on

We have French bulldogs, and I call them the billion dollar babies! They have intense allergies and scratch themselves until they bleed. This has generated dozens of doctor appts., the need for special food, shots and pills. Yikes! Now we have our dogs on this food and Hills Prescription Diet Skin/Food Sensitivities z/d canned dog food. NO MORE ALLERGIES. It has saved us so much trouble and money. The little bullies are doing great. Their coats are nice, and they're healthy.

  • Great for dogs with PLE

    By on

One of my dogs was diagnosed with PLE and this food is a good choice for him because of the hydrolyzed protein. Along with his medication and this food, hopefully he will be able to retain more protein. Hydrolyzed protein is broken down into amino acids already unlike regular protein so it is harder for his body to break down which is what he needs. Since dogs with PLE usually break down protein too fast and lose it in their urine. He likes the taste too.

  • My dog loves it

    By on

My dog was having allergic reactions and the vet wasn't sure if it was good or environmental, so I bought him this food. I was a little nervous that my English bulldog may not like it, because it's vegetarian, so when you open the bag the kibble is white. But, he doesn't hesitate to eat it at all. He's been on medication for his allergy attack in conjunction with when he started eating this food and he has not had any breakouts (he was losing patches of hair). His hear is frowning back and his back isn't sensitive to the touch. It's a little pricing, but in the long run I'd rather spend the money on food rather than vet bills for steroids and antibiotics.

  • Low fat prescription kibble

    By on

Thank you for your prompt service. We have always purchased our dog's food and treats from one of her veterinarian's offices. This time they were out and suggested I try online. I used my phone to order from Chewy when in the Veterinary office. Chewy immediately contacted the vet's office and got the prescription and shipped right out as promised. Great service, friendly staff. We thank you and our dog really thanks you. It is all she can have and to run out would not be good.

  • my dog hates this food

    By on

Lucy is a yellow lab that has suffered from allergies for 4 years. After finally testing her I was told that this food was one of the best for her. I purchased it right away. She hates it. While I was transitioning her to it we mixed it with her old food, she would eat it that way. Now it is only this food and she refuses it. I finally added cottage cheese to it so she would eat after 4 days of not eating. I have gathered the ingredients to make a special food just for her so that is my next option. I wish this would have worked. I may mix it in with the homemade food I am planning to make for her. At the cost I really don't want to waste any more money on it.
