Description

For dogs with kidney problems, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Canine Formula offers balanced nutrition to help support the kidneys. NF is formulated with low sodium, phosphorus and protein to help reduce the workload on the kidneys and help dogs with kidney problems feel better. It offers dietary benefits that provide optimal nutrition while meeting your adult dog's special needs.

Key Benefits

  • Kidney disease can occur in dogs of all ages, but it normally appears in that of older pets. It can't be cured, but with proper treatment and dietary management you can help make your pup much more comfortable.
  • Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF has been specifically formulated to minimize the sign of kidney failure and help slow the progression of the disease.
  • Restricted amounts of high-quality protein, low phosphorus levels, and a reduction in sodium all help reduce the workload on the kidneys. Added B-complex vitamins help to protect the body and break down nutrients.
  • Designed for dogs with chronic renal failure, hepatic disease associated with encephalopathy, or any condition that benefits from restricted sodium levels.
  • Made in the USA!

  • Wish I Could Have Given Five Stars

    By on

This was recommended by my vet after my dog started to develop declining kidney function. The taste actually did seem okay to him. I fed 2-3 times a day with warm water and a tasty topper/mixer. Sadly, I'm not sure that this food ever provided him much help. He had a decline, and sadly by the time our next vet visit came around it was too late. I wish I could have given five stars.

  • Really works for lowering high kidney levels

    By on

Our vet put our 8 year old pitbull on this along with the accompanying wet food and after a month, his levels dropped hundreds of points and was almost to the high range of normal function. I bet next month his levels will be perfect! The dry food is not what he really like so i have to mix a good amount of the wet food with it and he eats it up. Please put your dog on this if your vet recommends it.

  • Samantha loves it!

    By on

Just started my golden retriever, Samantha, on this food since being diagnosed with kidney disease. She loves the food and gobbles it down. Of course, she's never been a picky eater. We need to wait a bit to see if her lab results are improved but at least we found a dog food she enjoys.

  • Bark is loving this food!

    By on

While Barklee needs to eat this food as per his vet's recommendations, it was such a relief that he actually likes it! He has never been really food motivated, and would eat his food throughout the day a little at a time. With this food, he eats it all in one sitting and I have started needed to ration him! Bonus: his coat looks better and the shedding is actually a bit less. Unexpected but wonderful surprise.

  • Purina Pro Plan Vet Diets

I would recommend trying it. My dog is fussy so I have tried all the kidney type food out there. So I put a little bowl of this out with the other food I give her. She eats it on and off. But does not want the other kidney prescription foods I try to give her.

  • Picky dog loves this food

    By on

My picky dog really loves this food! Many report that special kidney diets are unappetizing for dogs, but he definitely eats more of this than his old dog food.

  • Picky Eaters Beware!

    By on

My shih tzu was diagnosed a few weeks ago with an extremely mild case of kidney disease so I immediately ordered this food for her to slow its progression. She has always been a picky eater and before this, she was eating Purina Lam and Rice formula. Once this arrived, she didn't touch it at all and when I mixed her old food in with this to help transistion, she would pick out only some of her old food. This went on for days with me adding in Beneful chopped bites to make it more appealing. When she started eating my cats' food, I knew the fight was over. She was so hungry and yet she refused to eat this. If she would eat it, it would be wonderful, but it's worthless if she won't even try it My shih tzu was diagnosed a few weeks ago with an extremely mild case of kidney disease so I immediately ordered this food for her to slow its progression. • Weight loss

    By on

Blossom was diagnosed with kidney disease a year ago. Since then, she has lost 13 pounds. I first bought Royal Canin Renal food for her but she didn't like it. She barely eats even the canned renal food. So I tried the Purina NF in a small bag and she ate it for a while. Then I ordered the large bag and now she is not eating it either, alone or mixed with canned food. I can't find any "human" food I can give her. Can you suggest anything? Thank you, Merrilyn

  • She LOVES it

    By on

My dog Lucy is a 13 year-old Walker hound with a fussy streak when it comes to dry dog food. The vet prescribed another kidney safe food and it was a struggle to get her to eat and she lost weight. I asked if I could try Purina NF kidney food and she has been devouring her food as it hits her bowl and asks for more. Thank you Purina and thank you Chewy for your wonderful customer service and for making it so easy to get this special food!
