Description

For dogs with kidney problems, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Canine Formula offers balanced nutrition to help support the kidneys. NF is formulated with low sodium, phosphorus and protein to help reduce the workload on the kidneys and help dogs with kidney problems feel better. It offers dietary benefits that provide optimal nutrition while meeting your adult dog's special needs.

Key Benefits

  • Kidney disease can occur in dogs of all ages, but it normally appears in that of older pets. It can't be cured, but with proper treatment and dietary management you can help make your pup much more comfortable.
  • Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF has been specifically formulated to minimize the sign of kidney failure and help slow the progression of the disease.
  • Restricted amounts of high-quality protein, low phosphorus levels, and a reduction in sodium all help reduce the workload on the kidneys. Added B-complex vitamins help to protect the body and break down nutrients.
  • Designed for dogs with chronic renal failure, hepatic disease associated with encephalopathy, or any condition that benefits from restricted sodium levels.
  • Made in the USA!

  • She eats this...

    By on

My beloved baby (17 yr. old, 14 lb. Jack Russell/Boston Terrier) went thru a horrible ordeal, couldn't keep food or even water down. After an expensive weeks stay at the vet, IV fluid's and all, they finally reintroduced food (wet Hills Science Diet) & she came home. After a few days she didn't want anything to do w/Hills dry food (they gave me a few sample bags). I was freaking out bc she wasn't eating ANYTHING, even the wet Hills (Beef Stew flavor) I had bought. The vet let me exchange the Beef Stew for the Original flavor (that's what they had been giving her while she was there but had sold me the Beef), and faxed Chewy the Rx for this food. It was Thursday so I was so concerned for the weekend, she HAD to eat! Luckily Chewy has GREAT customer service and shipping, I received my order Sat. Between the Original Hills and Purina Dry, my baby girl is eating just fine! I am about to order the 18 lb. bag since she's done so well with the 6 lb. bag. Even my other words dogs seem to enjoy the taste well enough, as they try to steal a bite whenever they get the chance. I think that says something, considering kidney diets are supposed to be "unappetizing" due to the decreased protein and limited ingredients otherwise. I wish there were more healthier, grain-free etc., options available for restricted diets. Regardless, Thanks Chewy & Purina! … more

  • My Dog Won't Eat It.

    By on

Libby eats around it. I have tried chicken broth, beef broth, scrambled egg white, chicken, vegetables, etc. She will eat any and everything BUT this food. She hates the canned version too. I understand that this is a salt free bland food for dogs with Chronic Renal Disease, but it is worthless if dogs won't eat it. She will eat plain dry bread before she will eat this food. It must be pretty horrible tasting.

  • KIDNEY DIET

    By on

Not one of my dogs like this stuff. Wish they could make a tasty dog food for my dogs in kidney failure. I've tried all 3 of the dog foods special for kidney issues and none of them are liked including science diet, royal canine and now this one. Nothing against chewy they are Great!!

  • First time ordering prescription dog food

    By on

My 11 year old border collie just had to be switched to a low protein prescription food due to early stage kidney failure. My cousin highly recommended Chewy and I was not disappointed. They were proactive about following through with the prescription approval from my vet and I quickly received the order 2 days later. I called Chewy several times to check on the order and each time a human being answered the phone after the first ring!! Incredible!! So far I'm loving Chewy!!

  • My Dog Chooses this over Hills!

    By on

I was really surprised that my dog, Lucy, took to this dry food and turned away from the Hills Prescription Diet dry. I do not exaggerate!! And I believe it might be a little less expensive as well.

  • My dog likes it

Tried three other versions of kidney care kibble (different brand) and she hated all of them. This Purina kidney care kibble is a winner. She eats it without hesitation.

  • Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Formula Dry Dog Food

I am in the process of switching my 12 year old Golden Retriever to NF from another Pro Plan formula. She really seems to like it and she is not having any issues.

  • Veterinary diet food

I think this dry food is too hard for my old girl's teeth. I tried wetting with water and mixing with canned food. She just ate the canned NF food.

My dog loves it. It's always helpful for food to come in 30+ lbs especially if you are buying prescription food for a big dog.

  • Kidney Diet Food

    By on

The vet recommended this food for my Rottweiler who has Cushing's Disease. The first few days, Grace (the dog) would not eat the food. However she now willingly eats the food and she seems to especially like the nice crunch of the food. The diet also seems to fill her up as she is doing less begging for treats. I love the convenience of having the food shipped to me.
