Description

This Royal Canin formula is designed exclusively for pure breed German Shepherd puppies from 8 weeks to 15 months. The young German Shepherd tends to be more sensitive to digestive upset than other breeds, and also has alkaline skin just like an adult. Large puppies like German Shepherds grow quickly, and their active lifestyle can place stress on their joints that can have lifetime effects. That's why it's important to feed a diet that is tailor-made for their specific needs.

Why Pure Breed Dogs Need Tailored Nutrition

From their personalities to their distinctive physiologies, pure breed dogs have unique characteristics that make them sought-after and beloved companions. When choosing a formula, it's important to keep in mind the unique characteristics of your breed including:

Face and Jaw: All dogs fall into two basic jaw types: Brachycephalic or mesocephalic. Breeds with short, broad muzzles (like Bulldogs) are examples of a brachycephalic jaw. Breeds with a longer muzzle (like Labrador Retrievers) are examples of mesocephalic breeds. The jaw type, and even biting patterns can affect how a breed picks up kibble.

Skin Types: The skin's most important function is to serve as a barrier of protection-but not all breeds have the same skin type. From wrinkled and folded (which traps heat and moisture) to sensitive or water resistant, precise levels of key nutrients help to support a breed's unique skin health needs.

Distinctive Coats: There's more to a coat than meets the eye. From the color and texture to undercoats, each pure breed dog has a unique coat with unique needs.

Breed Specific Formulas

Every dog is unique. From the small, flat-faced Pug to the obesity-prone Labrador Retriever, Royal Canin Breed Health Nutrition is tailor-made to address the unique needs of pure breed dogs. These breed specific formulas benefit from the latest Royal Canin research on the selection of the best protein sources, unique nutrients and tailor-made kibbles.

Formulated for German Shepherd Puppies

Royal Canin's German Shepherd Puppy Dry Dog Food is designed exclusively for pure breed German Shepherd puppies from 8 weeks to 15 months.

Digestive performance: Digestive health is essential during German Shepherd puppies' growth period. Their digestive system is not yet fully developed and can't absorb nutrients in the same way adult dogs can. This formula takes into account digestive sensitivity common in German Shepherd puppies, and includes L.I.P. proteins to help maintain a balanced intestinal flora.

Bone & joint health: German Shepherd Puppy Dry Dog Food supports healthy bones and joints with appropriate calcium and phosphorus content. This exclusive formula also helps maintain an ideal weight.

Natural defenses: During the growth period, German Shepherd puppies' natural defenses are not yet fully developed. This formula includes an exclusive complex of antioxidants including vitamins E and C, lutein and taurine to maintain their natural defenses.

Exclusive Kibble

German Shepherds have a long, strong muzzle with equally strong teeth. The size, shape and texture of the kibble in German Shepherd Puppy Dry Dog Food is exclusively designed for easy pick up while also encouraging puppies to chew.

Rated 4 out of 5 by So far so good Okay, so I am a bit confused. All of the websites that look at dog food ingredients say this is a bad dog food and I have to agree based on the ingredients. BUT, I have seen so many 5 star customer reviews with great testimonials and even vet recommendations. I ended up with this food because I have a very picky 4 month old GSD. We tried all of the great foods, including raw and she just wasn't eating. She even went 24 hours refusing to eat because she didn't like what we were feeding her. So, off to the pet store and we brought home 3 dry dog foods and she chose this one! She is now eating well. I am adding supplements to make sure she gets what she needs. I really wanted to raise her on raw food, but she is having none of that. I guess I have a junk food puppy, but at least she is eating! Now we will see how she does on it longer term. Rated 5 out of 5 by Saved our German Shepherd! For months, we had struggled with irritable tummies, runny stools (if they were thicker than water, which was rare), and we were struggling to help our not-so-little guy gain weight. Then, we decided to take our chances and buy a big, expensive bag of food compared to all the things we'd been trying. We'd even tried rice with canned food three times a day! Even chicken and chicken livers! We tried it all! But within 24 hours (yes, 24 HOURS) on Royal Canin for German Shepherd puppies, we saw a big change. More solid stools (moving up to pretty darn close to hard stools with continued use), shinier coat, and slow but steady weight gain! We love this food and will never go back! We're even considering the Labrador Retriever food for our-- you guessed it-- Labrador Retriever! Thank you Royal Canin for saving our puppy! November 6, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by love chewy I have been purchasing Royal Canin GS puppy food for months and my Maddy just loves it. The kibble is the perfect size. Price is right and the shipping is incredible. I get the dog food max 2 days even with the holidays! December 10, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Healthy/Delicious This is the best type of food for our German Shepherd puppy. It is healthy and supports her growth and she absolutely loves it. My only gripe is that the portions don't seem accurate. My pup is fed the required amount and a little more and she is quite thin. My wife and I are very active with our pup but it still seems like she should be eating more. December 7, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stands out as superior First of all, this is the first dry bag dog food I've seen with a zip lock top (I bought the largest bag size). That fact alone impresses me. I can now "burp" off most excess air and close the bag -- which makes for better storage than even air-tight containers, which will still have a large amount of air as the food quantity goes down. The tightened bag will not "relax" even if I lift it up by the top, telling me that the seal holds well. Second, there is a significantly stronger aroma from this food compared to others -- which I can only assume means it has "meatier" or "oilier" contents. I assume the food is "richer," because it smells richer to me. Finally, I'm seeing tighter stools with this food than other premium puppy dry chow -- even when I mix it with premium canned. It's never easy to be certain which food is the best, but this food gives every clue that it stands a bit above the rest. That's enough for me (it's the best I can do, being that I can't run direct tests between puppies raised on this vs other brands). March 31, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by VGood Price Am pleased w/the price compared to other retailers plus the free shipping is a bonus. November 20, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Was fine for a while, now time for a change We've been feeding our 9 month old German shepherd puppy this food since we brought him home at two months. In the past month or so he's had loose stool most of the time, tries to eat grass every chance he gets, and will not eat this food any longer unless we mix something into it like veggies or an egg. We're going to try another brand for now to help with his stomach issues as he's clearly lost interest in eating this food. October 31, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Puppy Food Ever !!!! Excellent Purchase, Great Price, my German Shepherd puppy loves this food. Her coat is beautiful, eyes are really bright and happy !! No complaints here; service was excellent from Chewy.com !! Even my puppie's vet wanted to know what I was feeding her.. told all my friends about chewy.com for their fur babies. The only problem I had was Fed-Ex and their slow delivery, four days late, when the food finally got here, I opened the bag and my German Shepherd Puppy stuck her head in the bag and started munching down, it was a fight to get her out of it so I could take it in the house.. she can't wait till it's feeding time, it also straighten up her loose bowel problem from the other puppy chow I was feeding her.. Thanks Chewy.com for this perfect food for not just my puppy, but for all breeds of canines and cats too !! August 18, 2016
