This Royal Canin formula is designed exclusively for pure breed Labrador Retrievers over 15 months. Labrador Retrievers typically eat very quickly and gulp their food. They also tend to gain weight, which puts more stress on their joints. The Labrador Retriever also has a waterproof coat, which means their skin secretes an oil that protects it against cold and water. That's why it's important to feed a diet that's tailor-made for all of their specific needs.

Key Benefits

  • Specifically formulated for pure breed Labrador Retrievers over the age of 15 months. It helps your pup maintain their ideal weight by providing an appropriate calorie content to keep them satisfied.
  • Enriched with EPA and DHA to help support healthy joints and strong bones.
  • Exclusive complex of nutrients, like fish oil, help maintain skin and coat health.
  • Unique donut-shaped kibble helps to slow down the rate of ingestion. It encourages your pup to chew their food more and eases digestion.
  • Made in the USA!

Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7-day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

Why Pure Breed Dogs Need Tailored Nutrition

From their personalities to their distinctive physiologies, pure breed dogs have unique characteristics that make them sought-after and beloved companions. When choosing a formula, it's important to keep in mind the unique characteristics of your breed including:

Face and Jaw: All dogs fall into two basic jaw types: Brachycephalic or mesocephalic. Breeds with short, broad muzzles (like Bulldogs) are examples of a brachycephalic jaw. Breeds with a longer muzzle (like Labrador Retrievers) are examples of mesocephalic breeds. The jaw type, and even biting patterns can affect how a breed picks up kibble.

Skin Types: The skin's most important function is to serve as a barrier of protection-but not all breeds have the same skin type. From wrinkled and folded (which traps heat and moisture) to sensitive or water resistant, precise levels of key nutrients help to support a breed's unique skin health needs.

Distinctive Coats: There's more to a coat than meets the eye. From the color and texture to undercoats, each pure breed dog has a unique coat with unique needs.

Breed Specific Formulas

Every dog is unique. From the small, flat-faced Pug to the obesity-prone Labrador Retriever, Royal Canin Breed Health Nutrition is tailor-made to address the unique needs of pure breed dogs. These breed specific formulas benefit from the latest Royal Canin research on the selection of the best protein sources, unique nutrients and tailor-made kibbles.

Formulated for Labrador Retrievers

Royal Canin's Labrador Retriever Adult Dry Dog Food is designed exclusively for pure breed Labrador Retrievers over 15 months.

Ideal weight: Labrador Retrievers have a legendary appetite. As a result, they need a carefully controlled diet to avoid becoming overweight. This exclusive formula helps maintain an ideal weight with an appropriate calorie content.

Bone & joint health: As determined athletes, Labrador Retrievers give their all. Their solid body, strong bones and natural predisposition to gain weight are some of the factors that can put stress on their joints. Labrador Retriever Adult Dry Dog Food helps support healthy bones and joints and maintain an ideal weight.

Healthy skin & coat: Appropriate food plays an important part in maintaining the quality of the skin and coat. This formula helps support the skin's role as a barrier with an exclusive complex of nutrients, and helps maintain skin and coat health with EPA and DHA.

Exclusive Kibble

Labrador Retrievers tend to eat quickly without chewing their food. The donut-shaped kibble in Labrador Retriever Adult Dry Dog Food helps to slow the rate of ingestion and encourages dogs to chew.

Why Royal Canin?

Over time, Royal Canin has accumulated vast knowledge about cats and dogs that only extensive research, scientific study and tireless talks with pet professionals, veterinarians and owners can provide. That knowledge led them to develop precise nutrition for cats and dogs. Each Royal Canin formula is tailored to pets' size, age, lifestyle and breed and contains more than 50 perfectly balanced nutrients for the most effective diet possible.

Their focus on science puts pets at the heart of the formulation process, choosing only ingredients that optimize the food's nutritional content. Royal Canin also continues to invest heavily in new technology to ensure their quality and food safety systems remain state-of-the-art, so pets can continue to benefit from the latest in food health and nutrition.

  • Switched from Fromm's Gold

    By on

Reason I switched was Fromm pulled their Distrbutorship from Chewy. My Labrador loves the Royal Canin for Labradores....no problem transitions to the Royal Canin in fact she likes it better than the Fromms. She is a 7 year old English lab, so need to watch her weight she eats approximately 1-1/2 cups in Morning and evening. I walk her about 3 miles a day and her energy is very good

  • Definitely helps gulping!!!

    By on

This is helpful for labs who "inhale" their food! My rescue and my resident have been introduced to this food and love it! I've never seen two dogs so excited to eat! At any rate, when you open the bag; it actually smells 'foody' unlike many (even premium) dog foods. It sure beats having to use a wiffle ball in their dog food bowl!

My dog was eating Blue Buffalo. Good food but it is to rich for digestive system. Now With Royal Canin he doesn't have anymore problems with his digestive track. I recommend it for Labs.

  • My Lab Loves This Food!

    By on

Out of all the different high end dog foods I've tried, Royal Canin is the all time favorite. I have eight rescued/adopted dogs and they prefer Royal Canin above all. They are healthy and their coats are thick and shiny. Recently I ordered the Lab food for my new Lab and he loves it. I thank Chewy.com for making all this food more affordable and convenient. Also, your Customer Service Representatives are the best.

  • Awesome food smells good

    By on

Who ever thought dog food would smell good?!?! I was feeding my lab nutro which I liked because it kept her poops to a minimum but it smells like roadkill. The first thing I noticed when I opened the Royal Kanin was it actually smelled good. That's got to be a good sign. She's only been on it for a couple weeks so jury is still out, but so far so good.

  • My two Labrador retrievers really like this food!

    By on

My two Labrador retrievers eat just about anything but I was looking for a food that was profiled just for Labrador retrievers. I am on my first bag of Royal Canin Labrador Retriever Adult Dry Dog Food. Both of my dogs love it and I am hoping they do well on it. My female will be bred soon so I may have to switch her to a puppy food but the male will stay on this food. I definitely think it works well for Labrador Retrievers.
