Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • Great product

I can't say enough good things about this dog food. Both my senior dogs - an 11-year-old Rottie and a 15-year-old lab mix - were having some pretty serious digestive issues. I took my lab mix to the vet who suggested I change the food I was feeding him. My sister uses Royal Canin for her boxer and recommended that I try the brand. Both my dogs LOVE it. The digestive issues have all cleared up and their coats look better and both dogs seem to be feeling so much better. I will never use another brand for these dogs or any other dogs I may have in the future.

Remington is our fourth Labrador Retriever. As of this date, he is also the longest surviving Lab, at 10.5 years old. The Royal Canin Maxi Aging 8+ appears to be a very good choice for him. He is more active, he is more tolerant, and his coat even shows significant signs of a new sleekness.

  • RC Maxi is perfect for my 7 year old yellow lab!

    By on

I had my 7 year old on another brand of weight management dry food, but since my 15 month old yellow lab had been raised on RC puppy and now Adult Labrador Retriever, I thought I'd give the Maxi a try. He loved it right from the get-go, and his coat is shinier and softer. RC Maxi has more joint ingredients and nutrients, that more mature labs need, even though I give him a daily Dasuquin MSM, as well. I would highly recommend Royal Canin Maxi!

I switch my 11 year old PBT between royal canin dry dog food types. she likes this one OK. She particularly like the giant adult dog food, and the Bulldog food as well.

  • Great dog food for an awesome price!

My dog is a Bulloxer - 1/2 Amercian Bulldog and 1/2 Boxer. He's 8 years old and weighs over 120 pounds. His name is Tyson. Tyson is a gentle giant. I had been buying senior dog food for him but the size of the food was small, about the size of rabbit food. Once I received the first bag of Royal Canine Maxi I tried mixing 1/2 of the old brand with 1/2 of the new. I don't know how he managed to do it but somehow all the old brand (the smaller morsels) ended up on the floor. He quickly let me know that he DID NOT like the previous brand. He LOVES the new food and I seem to be feeding him less often because he gets full from the larger morsels. I absolutely LOVE this website and I highly recommend it to all pet owners. I especially recommend it to pet owners with large breed dogs. It's not easy hauling around a 30 pound bag of dog food every month. … more
