Small dogs need more than just a small kibble. They need more energy than big dogs, and they have a shorter and more intense growth period. Plus, they typically live longer than large dogs, and have a more finicky appetite. Whether we’re talking about their bodies or their lifestyle, small dogs are a little bit different from the rest of the canine world. Fortunately, Royal Canin Mini is distinctly different, too.

Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7-day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • My Yorkies loved this

I purchased this Royal Canine mini adult formula ( which is nice small kibbles looks like dry cat food). I mix this with Royal Canine's Yorkshire Terrier formula. I must say just a little variety now and then keep my Fur Babies from getting bored With their Food

  • So far good

Our vet didn't like the food that our dogs were eating before so this is a brand he liked. It smells awful but our dogs like it so ... another plus is our one dog has stopped eating the other dogs feces. If you have that problem you might try this food.

  • Fussy Shih Tzu

    By on

I ordered for the first time from Chewy.com and I am so impressed. I have already told so many people about their prices and fast shipping. I have a very fussy shih tzu and he loves Royal Canin. It is the only dog food that I think he likes.

  • Great food for adult dogs

    By on

My dogs readily eat this food. I found that my dogs digest this food well and don't require a large quantity in order to be satisfied. The amount of stool is less than on other foods I have tried. My dogs have eaten this food for years and have been very healthy. A good value.

  • Excellent Dog Food

    By on

Our old veterinarian ditched Science Diet in favor of Royal Canin, and that is how we got started using RC. This is a great food for "mutts". RC does make breed specific formulas; but we have rescue mixes. This is wonderful food. We never have any tummy issues, no throwing up, and NEVER any loose or runny stools. We pick up every mess they make, so are very aware of what is going on in that department. Their coats are soft, eyes bright, full of energy, good teeth, not a lot of allergies or excessive scratching.....everything you want your dog to be. I think anyone can be confident in feeding this to their dogs.

  • The absolute best!

    By on

I have a extremely picky chihuahua/rat terrier mix, I have tried so many foods and she just refuses to eat until she "has to"..she would go for a couple days at a time, without eating a bite. A good friend recommended this brand and as soon as I put it down, she ate the whole bowl in a matter of minutes, my husband and I were amazed. I definitely urge picky fur-baby owners to get this.

  • This product even smells good to me.

    By on

My dogs were not very energetic, laying around not playing with toys. Only went on short walks. I saw this product and bought it. When I opened it, has a zip shut bag feature, both of them jumped up to smell it. I put it in their bowls and they ate it with no prompting. We are on our 4th bag and they still react the same way. The one dog even trimmed down a little. They have energy less sleeping more playing and back to love their walks. Thank you Royal Canin.
