Description

Cystine stones (uroliths) occur when an inherited defect of the kidneys causes a build up of cystine in the dog’s urine. Cystine is an amino acid that is filtered and reabsorbed by the kidneys. The build up of this amino acid in the urine leads to the formation of cystine stones. Certain breeds are more affected than others by cystine urolithiasis. These include English Bulldogs, Newfoundlands, Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, and Mastiffs. Mixed breed dogs with the ancestry of these genetically susceptible breeds can also be affected.

Key Benefits

  • Low purine proteins combined with the production of alkaline urine help reduce the risk of urate stones
  • Contains moderate quantities of high quality proteins and controlled methionine and cysteine levels

  • Low Purine Dog Food

    By on

I recently adopted a 5 year old male Dalmatian. Knowing Dals are prone to bladder stones, I had his urine checked and found out he had crystals in his urine. After a bladder ultrasound which came back negative for any stones, my vet recommended this low purine diet to help prevent any stones from forming. I had another male before, that also had a history of stones, so I was familiar with the protocol. My Dal just loves the food, he eats it all up.

  • Dog Loves It

Our pup loooves this food! We had to put him on it after some bladder stone issues. He does eat more than it says to feed him though. He's still hungry after his serving and because he does not have obesity issues we do feed him more. I estimate that this bag will last about 3 weeks for our 95lb pup.

  • Better than his other food

    By on

My dog is required to have this food as a result of cystic bladder stones. It makes him pee a whole lot more (that's what it does) and he farts a whole lot more(side effect). He enjoys eating it as much as he did his other food and this is cheaper than the food we were buying him.

  • My Dalmatian loves it!

Having to be on a special diet is hard for a dog to understand but it maintains his health perfectly and even better, he loves it. I mean drool while the kibbles hit the bowl!

  • Good product for UC dog diet

    By on

This food has a much lower fat content than other UC prescription foods, so it helps keep weight down. Buying it from chewy.com was quick and easy. They emailed me for a copy of the prescription, or gave me the choice to have them call my vet. Once I sent a copy, the shipment went out and it arrived within 2 days. It also cost me $20 less than at our vet. Bravo!

  • Great for my picky eater

    By on

Our mastiff was used to raw or dehydrated food before having to switch over to a prescription diet due to bladder stones. Initially, our vet recommended Hills, but our picky eater HATED it. Only ate it because we weren't giving him anything else. Since switching to Royal Canin's UC Low Purine dry food, he doesn't chow down like he does his frozen duck patties, but he's much more accepting of it without too much delay. I'm so relieved! I'll be setting up the auto-delivery for sure.

  • Great food. Need smaller breed size

    By on

This food is great for my Yorkie and his urinary diet. The pieces are too big for a little pup though and I wish they had a small breed option.

  • I thought that your service was excellent and delivery to be the same.

    By on

Your online ordering and catalog system was very easy to use. I was very pleased with the turn around time given the fact that you had to contact my veterinarian. I ordered on one day and you contacted my vet and shipped the next. I had the delivery in four business days from the date of order. Well done and very efficient.
