Description

Cystine stones (uroliths) occur when an inherited defect of the kidneys causes a build up of cystine in the dog’s urine. Cystine is an amino acid that is filtered and reabsorbed by the kidneys. The build up of this amino acid in the urine leads to the formation of cystine stones. Certain breeds are more affected than others by cystine urolithiasis. These include English Bulldogs, Newfoundlands, Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, and Mastiffs. Mixed breed dogs with the ancestry of these genetically susceptible breeds can also be affected.

Key Benefits

  • Canine Urinary UC Low Purine is a highly digestible, palatable, complete and balanced adult dog food formulated to meet the nutritional needs of adult dogs prone to urate, cysteine and xanthine urolithiasis.
  • Low purine proteins combined with the production of alkaline urine help reduce the risk of urate stones
  • Contains moderate quantities of high quality proteins and controlled methionine and cysteine levels
  • Formula increases the urine volume to simultaneously reduce the saturation of urine with struvite and calcium oxalate precursors. - See more at: https://www.royalcanin.com/products/vet/urinary-health#sthash.e79Q6CPF.dpuf

  • Good product for UC dog diet

    By on

This food has a much lower fat content than other UC prescription foods, so it helps keep weight down. Buying it from chewy.com was quick and easy. They emailed me for a copy of the prescription, or gave me the choice to have them call my vet. Once I sent a copy, the shipment went out and it arrived within 2 days. It also cost me $20 less than at our vet. Bravo!

  • Great for my picky eater

    By on

Our mastiff was used to raw or dehydrated food before having to switch over to a prescription diet due to bladder stones. Initially, our vet recommended Hills, but our picky eater HATED it. Only ate it because we weren't giving him anything else. Since switching to Royal Canin's UC Low Purine dry food, he doesn't chow down like he does his frozen duck patties, but he's much more accepting of it without too much delay. I'm so relieved! I'll be setting up the auto-delivery for sure.

  • I thought that your service was excellent and delivery to be the same.

Your online ordering and catalog system was very easy to use. I was very pleased with the turn around time given the fact that you had to contact my veterinarian. I ordered on one day and you contacted my vet and shipped the next. I had the delivery in four business days from the date of order. Well done and very efficient.

  • Great Food!

    By on

I own two Dalmatians so anyone who knows the breed, know that they're prone to urate stones. Both my dogs had issues and one had emergency surgery. I work in a vet office so I had the availability to try all the low purine diets with purina, hills, etc. This brand is not only cheaper but both of my dogs have no issues and love the food. A couple others I tried smelt terrible and the kibble was white. I think the brown smell good kibble keeps my dogs happy and the ingredients keep me happy!

  • Life Saving product

I do not know if my dog would be alive without this special dog food. He had 2 bladder surgeries for stones and blockage in 12 months before this product was recommended. One year on this dog food and the ultrasound of his bladder was clear. We are extremely pleased with this product.
