Description

Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs.

What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In dogs, bacterial infections of the urinary tract and the presence of stones (uroliths) in the urinary tract are the most common causes. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Canine Urinary SO Moderate Calorie is a complete and balanced diet for adult dogs predisposed to weight gain. It is formulated to aid in the nutritional management of calcium oxalate and struvite urolithiasis.
  • Moderate calorie content, compared to canine Urinary SO, to help maintain ideal weight.
  • Royal Canin Urinary SO Index® promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals
  • Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals
  • Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine; RSS is used to develop diets that lower the concentration of ions contributing to struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis.

Feeding Instructions

Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • Great Food!

    By on

Our dog, Fuzzy, is a picky eater when it comes to dog food and is also on a restrictive diet due to medical issues. He LOVES this food. He is mostly on a wet food diet and we buy the canned version of this food, but we add a little dry food to one of his two daily feedings and he eats that feeding much quicker and is happier after he does. It's a great food!

  • Very pleases

I’m a first time user , but will definitely order again. After I ordered , I got a phone call that they noticed I’d ordered cat food instead of dog food. Kept me from going thru a big mess returning and reordering. Was grateful for that. Not to mention the food was $10.00 cheaper than the vet, and it was delivered to my door in 3days.

  • Highly recommend

    By on

I used to purchase this dog food from my veterinarian office, but it is much cheaper when purchased through the Chewy website, it is shipped right to my door, and it saves me a half hour drive to go pick it up. I just started using Chewy but would highly recommend buying this food on this site. Very satisfied and will continue to purchase. Ever since I started my dog on this food, she hasn't had any more bladder stone problems and she loves the food. Other foods she has been picky about but she loves how it tastes and on top of that it keeps her healthy.

  • They love it

One of my schnauzers has a history of bladder stones so must be on a special diet. It has been difficult finding a good food that all my schnauzers like. They look forward to meal times and all are doing well

  • Dog with urinary issues and picky eater

    By on

Our vet recommended this to try to help our Kerry Blue Terrier with some urinary issues. She loves the food so far. She hasn't been on it too long, but she's doing good. I like the ingredients in it and the taste for her is great.

Zoey was on Urinary SO from our Vet but he stopped caring it. So I went to Chewy.com and found it for less money and get it delivered to my door. How is that for convenience and savings ? I will add chews and other things on the next order. Very pleased with Chewy.com for their fast service and inventory. Wade Christian

  • He loved the food

    By on

He loved the food. Sometimes those prescribed dog foods can be bland and your pet will not eat it. He is enjoying the Royal Canin. It's just a little pricey.

  • My Dr put me on this and I love it

    By on

I'm a 12 year old Schnauzer mix that grew up in an orphanage. After 11 years of pampered living with my adoptive parents I wasn't feeling well and the chick that takes care of me took me to the doctor. They cut me open, made me wear a spaceship on my head and then started feeding me this food. I love this food. The guy who sleeps in the bed with me even stopped fat shaming me since changing to the moderate calorie variety. The chick has told me that I will continue to be fed this food, Dr's orders.
