Description

Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs.

What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In dogs, bacterial infections of the urinary tract and the presence of stones (uroliths) in the urinary tract are the most common causes. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Canine Urinary SO Small Dog is a complete and balanced diet specifically designed for small breed adult dogs at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease. It is formulated to aid in the nutritional management of calcium oxalate and struvite urolithiasis.
  • Low Relative Super Saturation (RSS) technology predicts the crystallization potential of urine and is used to develop our diets to decrease the risk of struvite and calcium oxalate crystal and stone formation
  • Tasty dry dog food also dilutes urine to help prevent struvite and calcium oxalate stones
  • Royal Canin Urinary SO® Index promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals
  • Contains nutrients to support healthy teeth

  • She loves her new food

    By on

My Pekingese has had bladder stones and she has to eat a urinary care specific diet. She was on Hills for sometime and she would always leave some in her bowl. I happened to mention it and a veterinarian told me that Royal Canin was more palatable. I just got it for her and she eats every bit! I even ordered the RC urinary care treats. They are delicious to her, but they are difficult for me to break into. I use a large twist-type pill crusher and it works great to break them to give to my small dog. Ask your vet about switching if your dog doesn't like it's urinary care food. I'm so glad I did, my lil girl is happy!

  • Great service and my dog loves the food

My small dog had kidney stones so she needs to eat prescription dog food for the foreseeable future. Chewy saves me money and delivers right to my door. My dog is a picky eater but she loves Royal Can in dry c/d for small dogs.

  • Royal Canine Vet Diet-urinary

    By on

My dog has been on Science Diet U/D for years...he is a walking stomach and wants to eat anything but his food and started trying to eat the other dog's Royal Canine Renal. So I purchased the Royal Canine Small Breed...he seems to like it and it is easier to chew in his little mouth (with few teeth). We will continue to purchase.

  • Byproducts!

    By on

My dog had bladder stones and had to have them surgically removed . Her vet thought that being on a urinary diet might help prevent them. He wasn't 100% sure it would but felt it was worth trying. However, chicken fat and chicken byproducts are the 3rd & 4th ingredients. I would expect this in a lower priced food. That being said, I haven't found a urinary diet food without chicken or byproducts! The vet didn't see a problem.

  • Great size!

    By on

My shih tzu was put on kidney formula dog food. She is only 9 pounds, so finding kibble that fit in her mouth was a chore. I gave this 4 stars: for the size of the kibble, vet formula and my vet recommended it. I took 1 star off as I figured out after about a week of eating it; my crew really doesn't care for the taste - except for the crazy cat that will eat anything. :) So back to the Royal Canin Senior Plus mini (12+ age).

  • My Pooch doesn't have much of a choice

Due to my dog's urinary tract issues, he cant have regular dog food, no people food or regular dog treats. The vet suggested this food and he's been issue free for 8 years now since stones removed.

  • Dog loves this food!

    By on

I had to get my dog on this food quickly due to her health issues. Chewy.com customer service was GREAT in getting this order out and I had it in a couple of days. Hollie is a toy fox terrier and the kibble is very small which works well for her. She likes it so well I have to give it to her a little at a time so she doesn't gobble it up. I also ordered the dog treats that go with this food and she loves them as well. Time will tell but so far I am very happy with this product.
