Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7-day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • GI improvement on this dog food.

    By on

My 9 month old Berniedoodle has been plagued with GI issues. Many changes in foods and antibiotics and think we have a winner. Only have 4 stars because we have gone one week beyond antibiotic and still holding firm.

  • Vet recommended, boxer approved

    By on

We put our 7 month old Boxer puppy on this food after several weeks of upset stomach issues that persisted despite various medications from the vet. This has done wonders for his stomach and he LOVES it. My only complaint would be that the bag is too small--we go through one of these in just two weeks!

  • Great for my 7month old Golden Retriver Pup

    By on

She has been having a very sensitive stomach since a few months and this food has only done good for her. I am curious if I can slowly mix her regular puppy food with it?

    By on

This food is working well for my pup. We went through several other foods which gave him diarrhea and are currently transitioning on to this one from the RC GI Low Fat diet. He thinks it's very yummy!

  • Husky

    By on

Our husky puppy had severe diarrhea for months. We tried several high end dog food brands including a different vet prescribed food. We even did the chicken and rice. Nothing helped until several other husky owners told us their dogs were having the same problem. They all told me that this was the only food that worked. Ordered it from Chewy immediately. It worked and we have had no problem since!!!

  • Bag too small but necessary for our puppy

    By on

Our puppy will be on this product until she is at least 8 months old. We are going through the only size (8.8lb) bag available in less than 2 weeks. She will put on another 10 pounds so we may need 1 bag a week. Many families could not afford this product to the detriment of their beloved dog. The product works but the bags need to be at least twice the size if not larger.
