My 15 year old golden retriever suddenly got diarrhea. She had a beautiful coat and tail that was rapidly shedding. Her skin bled with light brushing. Her previously super thick, fan like tail shed away and now looks like a rat tail. An x ray showed inflammatory bowel disease. The vet suggested rice and chicken diet. She took steroid and antibiotics. She tried probiotics. Five months passed, nothing helped. I could hear her stomach growling. She was up every few hours all night long to poo. The lawn was in bad shape. After doing some research I decided to try the hydrolyzed protein diet. Started with the cans because she was so picky about dry food. Then switched to the dry food after a week. She loved it! She would eat twice as much as usual. Poo is solid now. It's not been too long, but hoping it will persist. Maybe her tail hair will grow back? She's 15, but she's happy and energetic again! … more

  • Ordered by vet

    By on

This food was ordered by the vet to help w liver & digestive issues related to IBD. Our Basset/ chihuahua doesn't care for it plain. Therefore we try to mix in a bit of soft food or a small piece of shredded chicken. The kibble is pea-sized & absorbs liquid moderately well. Price comparable to some of the Blue grain free kibble.

  • My Dog Loves This Food!

    By on

My dog loves this food, and it cleared up her tummy issues. She does really well on it. Thank goodness for Chewy.com because we moved to another state and have yet to find a vet who carries this food. I'm so glad I don't have to change her food on top of all of the other change that she is dealing with now.

  • So far so good.

Our 2 year old lab/pit mix has a digestive issue. We originally switched her to Royal Canin HE, which worked well but she was still having issues every so often. Our Vet recommended more protein and so far so good.

  • Seems to love it

Toby has had stomach problems since I got him. He is a puppy mill dog with a super sensitive digestive system. He is 10.5 and someone finally figured him out, since his tests are all normal, and gave him a food that stopped making him sick. Do I like soy product for him.... no, but he is so much better he will stay on it.

  • My Dog Loves the Taste and It's Helped his GI System!

    By on

My vet put my dog on this food due to severe food allergies, almost every other food I had tried made him throw up - even the healthiest, top of the line, grain free, etc. foods available without a prescription. My dog has been doing awesome since starting this food! Not only has he quit throwing up completely, but his stool has been much healthier, too. He also LOVES the taste and scarfs it all down. He use to be very finicky and I had to constantly mix in wet food with dry in order to make sure he would eat something, but I have had no issues with this food so far. He eats it all up and licks his bowl clean! Expensive, but more than worth it for a food he actually enjoys and is helping My vet put my dog on this food due to severe food allergies, almost every other food I had tried made him throw up - even the healthiest, top of the line, grain free, etc. foods available without a prescription. • Perfect for my furchild

    By on

My furchild had some gastro issue before I adopted him. He had some very loose stool and had vomited and I didn't know what was going on. The vet introduced us to Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein and he is better in that sense. Not only does the food smell good but also the ingredients are better compared to other dog food I bought in the past.

  • Great Food!

    By on

Royal Canin HP is the only food my dog can tolerate. He has been on it for about 2 years now and is doing great! He has severe food and environmental allergies and this is the only product that doesn't make him sick. It arrives vacuum sealed and fresh every time. I would highly recommend if your animal suffers from allergies.

  • sensitive tummy

    By on

My 8 year old beagle has stress colitis and the vet recommended trying a hydrolyzed protein diet after continuous GI problems from living in shelters for 5 years. The vet thinks that something in her body is not breaking down proteins, so the Royal Canin HP dry food mixed with a little bit of pro plan gastrointestinal EN wet food has been working thus far. Slowly we will be working on a strict HP formula diet, but unfortunately this product is quite expensive and requires a prescription.

  • Lacks taste

My VERY food driven dog showed little and then no interest in eating this food. After not eating for almost 3 days I finally switched to a raw food diet for her and she is happy again.
