Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

I got this for my older dog that stays in the house most the time.and it does great, won't buy anything else. So I got a puppy and tried that advantage stuff you put on their back of his neck and his tail bone. Well I noticed he still had flea and a few ticks,so I checked these collars to see if a puppy could wear them also. And I was so happy to find they make them for the Puppy's and Cats. So I hurried up bought one for the puppy, and I have not seen a flea or a tick on him, not one since that day. I won't use anything other then these collars for my animals. Their part of my family and I would not want to itch and be bite all the time it will drive ya nuts. Bought one each for 3 dogs and two of the cat collars. Fleas were gone within 6 hours. On recommendation from the vet we use these for our dogs in combination with Sentinel prescription tablets to get rid of fleas, ticks, heartworm prevent and hookworm. We live in the Midwest and had no winter last year to kill off the pests eggs in the ground. And we live near three rivers so hookworm is in the soil. There have been negative reviews but depending on where you live, your dogs allergies, and other factors depends on what product will work. This is the only thing I've tried for my dogs and cats! My mom who lives 10 min away has tried everything for her pups and could never get rid of the fleas and so I didn't want to try anything she'd already tried so I was recommended the collars and I have NEVER had an issue I can typically have them last almost a full year before I replace them! We live in an extremely small town in southern Washington in the mountains and we have acres of woods that our dogs and cats run around in all day and they sleep outside as well so they are constantly exposed to fleas and ticks and I never notice anything until the time they are about due for another collar! LOVE LOVE LOVE these collars and recommend them to everyone with the comment that not one thing works for every dog/cat but I do think this is a cheaper option that works really well for me so why not give it a try for your own fur baby! Also I have purchased these collars from a lot of different places and a friend told me about this site and it is so much cheaper!! … more

  • Saves a ton of $ & works great

Having 4 large dogs (45lbs,60 lbs, 80 lbs, 125 lbs) in a flea/tick infested rural area I was spending a fortune on the topical treatments with limited success(when I remembered to apply them on time). These collars not only work but have saved me a ton of money with the added benefit of only having to remember to purchase/apply once a year. My guys aren't swimmers nor "outside dogs" but do spend a lot of time out of doors. This is the first time I haven't been pulling ticks off daily during the warm months. My "little" guy would have such a bad reaction to fleas that he'd have bald spots from scratching. • Not sure this collar is working

My 10.5 y/o, 90lb Hound mix just got his first hotspot about 2 weeks ago. The vet said it could have been caused by anything but mentioned fleas which is totally possible since we have a bunch of wild critters in the yard. I went home and checked him, with a flea comb, but found no fleas or evidence of them. I flea combed my two cats (inside only) and did find that one cat had a flea on him. My vet recommended this collar for my dog as I am very cautious of what I use on him especially since he recently finished chemo for Thyroid cancer, has Cushings and thyroid disease. I put the collar on him on Saturday, Aug 5th; the cats were dosed with Advantage drops the day before. On Tuesday, I checked My 10.5 y/o, 90lb Hound mix just got his first hotspot about 2 weeks ago. I found two live fleas and a live, plump tick on his butt...I thought this collar was supposed to work within 2 days! Its like he's now attracting critters! The cats were totally clear. I found another one last night (Thurs) on the dog's side! This one was small compared to the others but still, not happy! I am going to give it a few more days but if he is still getting bugs, I will have to say this collar does not work, at least not for him. I have to say, though I am disappointed in this product, I love Chewy. They have great prices and delivery is excellent. Between my work schedule and taking care of my buddy, it's hard to find the time to get to a good store and even then, no one beats Chewy prices! … more

  • fleas develop immunity

    By on

I have used this collar on my 2 dogs for a few years. For some reason, this year it is just not working. Chewy was kind enough to send me a replacement collar , just in case, the last one was defective. Still no help as far as the actual collar is concerned. My german shepherd buddy itches too much for a dog wearing a collar that claims to kill the fleas. I believe the fleas become immune to this collar after awhile. I truly was expecting this collar to work. Wouldn't you? I will now go topical for treatment for my best buddy. He is elderly and I want him to be comfortable because he brings so much love.

  • Avoid this product.

Ordered this collar in April for my Weimaraner. We go hiking quite a bit and she likes to run around in the parks here in Tennessee. In the four months she's had the collar I have found a few ticks on her belly and legs (on different occasions). The ticks are either walking around on her or stuck but dead. I can forgive that HOWEVER she recently picked up fleas from a vet visit. Allegedly they die in 2 hrs with the collar---well it's been 5 days and she still has fleas. Just had to drop at another $50 bucks on topical treatment. I will never buy this collar again because obviously it doesn't work.

  • TERRIBLE, not even used 3 months, my dog has fleas

I ordered this right when my dog qualified for the weight of this collar. She hasn't gotten much bigger either. We have literally not even used it three months, and to my surprise, we are finding fleas! First, my daughter told me a week ago she saw fleas, and I told her she was crazy, there was no way. But, then we found them ourselves, ON THE DOG, last night, while she was wearing the collar, exactly as instructed. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! I now have had to order different treatment, and I get to treat my house too. I will never recommend this product to anyone! • I was skeptical but

So far pleased with it. All 3 dogs have allergies so I was concerned about it bothering their skin. Trying it on my big dog. No problems so far. BUT - I am used to K9 Advantix and not used to worrying about the dogs getting wet. If it's raining at walk time I remove the collar and put it back on when he is dry. It is supposed to last for 8 months - but if I get 5 or 6 out of it I will consider it a good deal. I don't miss the 2 days of greasy after the spot on Advantix, but having to take the collar off to keep it dry is the trade off.
