Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

  • Great Product

A great alternative to the messy topical solutions. These really do work. We live in the country and my pack of 5 dogs spend time with me out on the farm. They swim and play and run through the woods. These collars work just as good as Frontline, or Advantix. I have never seen a flea and rarely find a tick when we do a 'tick check' after we go back indoors. With so many dogs, it is nice to buy these and have them last 8 months. They are pricey, but worth it.

My masters heard about Chewy from a Facebook post. It was a wonderful story of kindness and generosity from the folks at Chewy, so they decided to give Chewy a try. First they bought me food and treats, and then a flea and tick collar. They love the prices and the speed of delivery! And I love it when they're happy. Thanks, Chewy. Freckles

  • seresto dog collar

Best protection out there, so simple to use! I've been using it for years. No liquid down their backs which often stung. Great when there are little kids in the house because you don't have to worry about the medicine getting on their hands. It really does last 8 months unless of course your dog gets sprayed by a skunk and it retains the odor, then you have to buy a new one. The added reflectors are a great addition as well.

  • Seresto great for fleas but not great for ticks

    By on

We used this product last year and it worked great. Ordered one for this year and it seemed to work fine at first and for the past week or more, every single day we are picking ticks off of our large dog. The ticks are alive and well when we remove them. Not sure what happened from last year to this year but this collar is not working for the ticks. It has worked great for fleas both years, none to date.

  • Sadly they haven't worked for us

    By on

Fleas haven't been our problem, but ticks are. We bought collars for our two dogs after reading the great reviews. Sadly they aren't working - we are still finding blown up ticks after the collars have been on for 2 solid weeks. Our dogs are in the woods running trails on average 4 days a week - maybe this is too much tick exposure for the Seresto collar?

  • Promises more than it delivers

My German Shepherd/ Golden mix is super sensitive to the other tick products so I HAVE to use this. My experience is that she still has active feeding ticks. Maybe they are reduced , but she still gets them. She is a furry dog and I think that is part of the problem . Maybe the collar does not absorb to the skin as well when there is a heavy fur coat

  • Mostly satisfied

I bought this product for my 44lb dog and my cat (who spends a lot of time outside). They've been wearing their Seresto collars for about two months now and I haven't found any fleas on them. I live in VA so the weather is warming up quickly (it's now mid April), bringing out all sorts of bugs. I found a tick on my dog this weekend after he spent sometime at my friend's house in a wooded area. The tick was attached, so that's a bit of a concern since this product claims to repel and kill ticks. I'm hoping it was just a one time occurrence, but I will update my review further into the summer as my dog spends more time outdoors. No issues to report for my cat.

  • Great product

I purchased the Seresto collar after my vet recommended this product. It is easy to put on and will indeed fit small/medium to extremely large dogs. Per the instructions the excess collar would just have to be cut of for smaller dogs. I like the fact that the collar is easy to resize and remove for baths and etc. I have not found any fleas or ticks after a month of use but I do use this in combination with a topical.

  • Love that it works but not happy with trying to keep it on

    By on

This is my 1st season using the collars. It's been a couple of months and the dogs are flea and tick free. The problem we are having is the collar will work free of the buckle and fall off. We had to replace one because we couldn't find it once it came off. We actually used ties on the replacement and the 2nd dogs collar to help secure it.
