Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

  • These are magical!

I am not normally a person whom writes reviews, but these collars are awesome. I've been using them for about a year and switch them about every 5-6 months because my 2 labs swim almost daily during the nicer weather. I had never really had a real "test" of the collars until now. I am staying with a friend who's dogs both have fleas despite being on monthly topicals. I have been really worried that my dogs would get fleas, too, just being here! I've been checking them, but they're black labs with very thick coats so it's almost impossible to find fleas during a check over...Well, today I watched a flea literally crawl off of my dog and die right in front of me! • Better than anything else I have found

    By on

Last year I had a horrible flea infestation. I tried everything short of hiring an exterminator. I tried washing my dog in flea shampoo, lemon soap, multiple types of flea topical treatments, sprayed the yard, sprayed the house, bombed the house, washed everything multiple times, and still couldn't get rid of them. My vet recommended this collar. It worked great. All the fleas seemed to disappear on my dog, and in the house. I was extremely impressed. I then decided to get another dog from the pound. I came home one day and my new dog chewed the collar off my other dog, and half of it was missing! In a frantic, I called the vet who recommended I call the manufacturer. They were extremely helpful, said the collar shouldn't make her sick, and to just make sure she passes it. All in all, my new dog was fine after having this very expensive snack! I have been using advantix II which works really well for the most part, but I don't feel it works as well as the collar. Maybe because I forget to put it on them often enough. My new dog also seems to get fleas before it is time for another treatment. My other dog acts uncomfortable (almost sick) with the topical, so much so that I only put half the amount on her, but she does great with the collar. I am going to try again now that the new one isn't such a terror, and fingers crossed, it doesn't turn into a mid day snack... … more

  • Worth the money

    By on

I was skeptical about the Seresto collar at first because someone gave me one that had been used but I didn't know how long. I put it on my dog and it seem to attract fleas. So I really didn't know if it was any good or not. But after reading reviews and hearing people that come to my dog groomers shop talking about the good results they had, I decided to give it a try so I ordered one from Chewy. After putting it on her neck, within 12-36 hours I had no fleas on my dog whatsoever. It's well worth the money because if you break it down by the month for what you pay for the spot on flea treatment it comes out to be cheaper. As with anything associated with medicine there can be side effects so I was skeptical about the Seresto collar at first because someone gave me one that had been used but I didn't know how long. I have had excellent results with mine and I would recommend this collar to anyone if you have a problem with fleas. It definitely worked on my pet and she is blind from diabetes and has a brain tumor. Always check with your vet before using it if your pet has any medical concerns. I checked with two different vets and both said it was OK to use on her. It's said to last up to 8 months. I've read reviews where some people got less than 8 months protection and some that got more than 8 months. I'll be satisfied if I get 6 months protection because it would still be worth the money. … more

  • Large is LARGE!

    By on

Wow! They aren't kidding when they say large! I have a mini Golden Doodle who is 21 pounds. She is at the max end of small and the large was for over 18 pounds. ( I did not see a medium size, if there was I apologize and would make it 5 stars). I had to cut so much off her collar, it was such a waste. The reflective pieces that get snapped on work great, but 1 was already clipped together in the package. She has only had it on a few weeks, so I will be curious to see if it actually lasts as long as they say. I am only expecting 6 mos since I do bathe her more frequently. I will be happy with that.

  • Ineffective!

    By on

Bought a collar for one of my foxhounds that has developed a seizure disorder and I didn't want to use the spot treatments we had always used. Put this collar on and it was completely ineffective for both fleas and ticks. Sadly, I figured if I was going to use for one hound, I would use these for the other two as well, but all three hounds have fleas which they never did with spot treatments. At this price, I would expect at least a little improvement. Got nothing.

  • Tick free!

I started using the Seresto collars about a year ago so we're on our 2nd one. I was hesitant to try since even the topical stuff hadn't worked the best, but much to my surprise this worked like a charm AND I love that there's no mess. For the full 8 months I did not find one tick on my chocolate lab. He loves barreling through the woods and it can be very difficult to find ticks in his dark, thick fur. I bought the first collar at a local pet store, but it was slightly cheaper and very convenient to order via Chewy. Only wish that I could set an auto ship for the 8 month intervals.

The Receptionist that works at the Vet Mik and I use recommended it (Saresto) and at first I was hesitant to purchase it because of the price, my leeriness at it actually working effectively for eight months and we had never used it before. The first 3 days she was doing funny things with her mouth so I felt around her gums and there was nothing there. Then for 3 days, I left it off and put it back on for 2 hours at a time and didn't let her sleep in it. After that I left it on 24/7 and lo and behold... no issues and she has not had a flea or tick on her since. I am so pleased with the performance of Saresto I can barely express it. We'll just have to hope there are no long term effects. I am anxiously awaiting your response which I understand can take up to 48 hours. Sorry, didn't mean to write a novel, but on the other hand, it just shows my enthusiasm for your product. I also love the tall stairs, food and treats I have purchased from you in the past. You have a great "store" and I am so glad I found out about you ( through T.V. commercial if you were wondering). I am also impressed with the short shipping time. Thanks Chewy for being there!! I think I'll be a Chewy customer for a long time coming. Regards, Kumiko Christopher … more

  • Nunzio, my 9 yr old Boxer/Lab Mix

    By on

This is the second year using the large breed collar and my back yard faces the woods with just about every critter you can imagine! I haven't seen any fleas or ticks on my dog and even though it is higher priced than other collars, I'd rather not see my dog sick or get huge vet bills, and my vet sells the collar as well. Cheaper thru Chewy! I will continue to buy it every year! It does the job!

  • Worth every penny

I own a year old rottie and we live in central pennsylvania where deer ticks are unavoidable if you head to the woods. I use the seresto collar from early fall to late spring with oral treatment and i have never seen a flea on my dog. I have seen a few dead deer ticks on my dog with oral only. I have never had a tick on my dog with the seresto collar. It works as advertised and has no smell or residue. Simply the best.
