Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic collar This was the first product I bought from this website. But the second time I've had the Seresto collar. I use it on my 58 pound plott hound/pitbull mix and the first time we bought it, it worked fanstic. However when the the first one wore off after 8 month, due to the price of it in the pet stores, we went with a cheaper product. She wore it for a month and was completely miserable, because the cheapy did NOTHING for the fleas, and I was bathing her more than once a week(she's a short hair, so I shouldn't have to bathe her so often). So I was thrilled to find it on chewy.com for half the price of what pet stores sell it for. We got it yesterday, and she's had it on for 24 hours and I've already seen a tremendous change already. She is so much happier, will definitely keep buying from here. Thank you Seresto and your fantastic product, and chewy.com for your great service and fast shipping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Been using this collar for four or five years - LOVE IT! I believe I purchased these collars the first year they hit the market. Originally from Western Pennsylvania, the deer tick menaced both man and beast in our family. It was a constant struggle to keep our Lab/Chow and Treeing Walker Coonhound/German Wirehaired Pointer rescues (and husband) free of ticks. Eventually the topical treatments seemed to just stop being effective. I progressed to a more natural approach and tried MANY different organic/natural sprays and supplements. They didn't work well or consistently. One Spring, while conducting my annual on-line research for a tick preventive, my search engine brought up the Seresto collar. I was skeptical. Really, eight months continuous protection from fleas, ticks, and biting flies with a collar dry to the touch that you can get wet? I read as many reviews, from as many different sites, as I could find and decided to make the purchase. My family has never looked back. One of the best purchases I make each and every year. We have NEVER found a tick on either dog since we began using these collars. These are the best!!!! As always, you can't beat Chewy's prices or their customer service!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seresto is great! I was probably the most skeptical person about this product when it came available a few years ago. After talking with representatives from the company and with my vet I thought I had nothing to lose. The summer before trying, my two yorkies nearly passed from using the liquid poison on them. I have 4 dogs. The first year I used only on the yorkies and the doodle. IT WORKED. So the next year I used on all 4 dogs and guess what? IT WORKED. They are packaged without the ability of being broken. Infact, it's my understanding you can purchase months ahead and they do not become inactive. So I purchase when on sale. If you have not tried, do. This year, I'm using on my 3 cats also. They do not go out side often but better safe than sorry. They can get wet and it does not affect the coverage. Do not take off at night time or during the day. No, I am not a representative from the company. I do my research before I get anything for all my animals. I might add, Chewy is the best company I have ever worked with for my fur ones. Thanks you Chewy for all your help and thank you to Bayer for making such a good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No sign of fleas/ticks for over 2 yrs! I started my dog using this product over 2 yrs ago after using other flea/tick products that were ineffective. Upon recommendation from my groomer, I purchased it at first through my vet, but then have bought it ever since through Chewy.com. My dog (std poodle)is very sensitive to chemicals and has had some terrible reactions to other companies flea/tick and heartworm products. He wears this continuous year round. He has tolerated Seresto well, and it has kept him flea and tick free. The groomer even leaves it on him for his bath every 5 wks and it seems to have kept it's effectiveness well. I change it out every 7 months rather than 8 because of his baths just to keep him safe. It leaves no odor or greasy residue like other products either. He has shown no sign of allergic reaction to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bye Fleacias I was using a competitor topical flea treatment every month on all the animals in my house. I live in the suburbs and all my animals have flea treatment on (a cat and a dog). I take my dog for walks in various places and she runs in bushes. I was horrified to discover fleas on her. I applied additional topical (2x in one month) and I kept seeing more fleas. My dog does not wear a collar unless we are on walks and has an awkward shaped neck. I was reluctant to put a flea collar on her for looks, and how could something work for 8 months?! The fleas stressed me and I caved and bought a Seresto collar and have not seen any fleas since. I saw a few sick looking fleas a few days after applying it but then never again. I also did not have time to mega clean my house and everything I owned that was fabric. I washed my dog beds, blankets and my bedding but nothing like I read people do on internet forums (not a good idea to read when your dog has fleas) and the fleas were gone. I vacuumed a good cleaning as well, but again nothing crazy just a basic good cleaning every few days, a little bit more then I normally would. I also still sleep in bed with my dog, and pet my dog and have not noticed any "residue" or ill effects from this collar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this collar! Our 80lb yellow lab ran away from a doggie hotel this past summer. She was on the run for 12 days in the deep woods in the mountains. When we were searching for her, we had several ticks on us... but on the 12th day when we finally caught her, she still had her Soresto collar on and not ONE tick or flea on her. We were so blown away by the effectiveness of this collar. Our other dog suffered from a tick disease years ago which almost took his life. We had always used the topical medicine faithfully with him, but he still ended up with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and often had ticks on him. We started using this collar with him, we haven't seen one tick since. We always make sure our dogs are wearing the Soresto collar. They can swim, sleep with it on, and even has reflectors for walking at night. It has never fallen off either of our dogs. It's safe for you to touch and is odorless. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They are excellent Teddy and I live in the Catskill Mountains on twenty beautiful acres of meadow and wood lot. Teddy is my service dog, my help mate and protector. We have bears that visit and other critters, since I can't hear them I rely on him to remove me from danger. He is with me in the woods and meadow, there are lots of ticks before using the Seresto 8 month collar, I would find ticks on him all the time, even with tick shampoos. Teddy's groomer recommend the Seresto tick collar. I am so glad to report that Teddy didn't have even one tick last year. He is a 40lb Poodle and the ticks hideout in his coat but I just bought my second collar from chewy, they have the best price I have found and the savings are important since I am retired on a fixed income. From Teddy and me, thank you for an excellent product. Sincerely, Jimpa

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tick and flea +++ First week we moved to the Shasta-Trinity National Forrest I found two fat ticks on my dog Macy. We walk in our back yard every day which is a Forrest. Lots of deer pass and other animals. The Seresto collar is the best! After six months of walking our daily routine, I haven't found a tick or flea or anything of that matter. I feel my dogs are protected. After eight months I buy new ones. You can bathe the dogs too without removing the collar. Chewy has the best prices too! Thank you all for your hard work! Shipping is super fast as well! I also buy food too which has been always fresher than my local feed store! You won't be disappointed. Chewy has a wide range of pet products.
