Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this collar! Our 80lb yellow lab ran away from a doggie hotel this past summer. She was on the run for 12 days in the deep woods in the mountains. When we were searching for her, we had several ticks on us... but on the 12th day when we finally caught her, she still had her Soresto collar on and not ONE tick or flea on her. We were so blown away by the effectiveness of this collar. Our other dog suffered from a tick disease years ago which almost took his life. We had always used the topical medicine faithfully with him, but he still ended up with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and often had ticks on him. We started using this collar with him, we haven't seen one tick since. We always make sure our dogs are wearing the Soresto collar. They can swim, sleep with it on, and even has reflectors for walking at night. It has never fallen off either of our dogs. It's safe for you to touch and is odorless. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic collar This was the first product I bought from this website. But the second time I've had the Seresto collar. I use it on my 58 pound plott hound/pitbull mix and the first time we bought it, it worked fanstic. However when the the first one wore off after 8 month, due to the price of it in the pet stores, we went with a cheaper product. She wore it for a month and was completely miserable, because the cheapy did NOTHING for the fleas, and I was bathing her more than once a week(she's a short hair, so I shouldn't have to bathe her so often). So I was thrilled to find it on chewy.com for half the price of what pet stores sell it for. We got it yesterday, and she's had it on for 24 hours and I've already seen a tremendous change already. She is so much happier, will definitely keep buying from here. Thank you Seresto and your fantastic product, and chewy.com for your great service and fast shipping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally something that works!!!!!! Moved to the country in the south 6 months ago. Since then my poor dog has been having a full fledged infestation! I would use frontline every 3 months before just for a precaution but after moving i would try one thing after another after another and it would be a full fledged infestation within 4 days. So at my wits end i searched this site once again for yet something else to try and happened across this gem. I was doubtful coz it's a collar. No collar i ever heard of worked. But thought why not let me try it at least. Put it on my 80 pound dog last night and by the morning I struggled to find a flea!! And when i did it wasn't even scurrying i could just pull it right off!!! I am so in love with this collar! Even if it only last 4 months i don't care. I'd rather replace something every 4 months than not being able to do anything after 4 days. Keep in mind. Dogs like humans react differently to products so it will work for some dogs and not for others i guess. It works for my little massive angel and I'm extremely happy. At least give it a try i say!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only flea and tick treatment I will use I've been using this on my dog for the past year and a half. As the instructions say, it lasts 5 months if the dog is a big swimmer but 8 months if not. He does not swim and I do take it off to bath him even though you don't have to, so it does last close to 8 months, but I find myself replacing it around the 7 month mark. That's still a long time and it's extremely effective, but just be mindful that it may not last the exact amount of time that the instructions indicate. We do a lot of off trail hiking, so ticks are my main concern. While the collar was working full strength I only ever found 1 tick attached to him and it had clearly died before it could feed (it was still flat) which means the collar is working, so that is impressive considering I live in and area known for having tons of ticks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bye Fleacias I was using a competitor topical flea treatment every month on all the animals in my house. I live in the suburbs and all my animals have flea treatment on (a cat and a dog). I take my dog for walks in various places and she runs in bushes. I was horrified to discover fleas on her. I applied additional topical (2x in one month) and I kept seeing more fleas. My dog does not wear a collar unless we are on walks and has an awkward shaped neck. I was reluctant to put a flea collar on her for looks, and how could something work for 8 months?! The fleas stressed me and I caved and bought a Seresto collar and have not seen any fleas since. I saw a few sick looking fleas a few days after applying it but then never again. I also did not have time to mega clean my house and everything I owned that was fabric. I washed my dog beds, blankets and my bedding but nothing like I read people do on internet forums (not a good idea to read when your dog has fleas) and the fleas were gone. I vacuumed a good cleaning as well, but again nothing crazy just a basic good cleaning every few days, a little bit more then I normally would. I also still sleep in bed with my dog, and pet my dog and have not noticed any "residue" or ill effects from this collar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tick and flea +++ First week we moved to the Shasta-Trinity National Forrest I found two fat ticks on my dog Macy. We walk in our back yard every day which is a Forrest. Lots of deer pass and other animals. The Seresto collar is the best! After six months of walking our daily routine, I haven't found a tick or flea or anything of that matter. I feel my dogs are protected. After eight months I buy new ones. You can bathe the dogs too without removing the collar. Chewy has the best prices too! Thank you all for your hard work! Shipping is super fast as well! I also buy food too which has been always fresher than my local feed store! You won't be disappointed. Chewy has a wide range of pet products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seresto Collars WORK We live in Connecticut where ticks and Lyme disease are rampant. I'm not a fan of the flea drops because of the side effects, including the "skin crawling" sensation my lab would experience. For me, the Seresto flea collars are the reliable and safer choice. We've been using the Seresto Large Dog flea collar for almost two years with my 65lb lab and the ticks I have found have either been dead or just crawling on him, even after a day in the woods. Proof enough for me the flea collar is working if the ticks aren't biting him or die before they become engorged. Now that we've added a second rescue pup to our family, I'm back for another collar because I know it will keep both of my dogs safer. I don't have to worry about the side effects of the drops or them licking insecticide off each other or themselves. The collar is also a much more economical purchase than the drops. Chewy has a great price on this collar (as with everything) and their customer service is exceptional.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good Its only been a couple weeks so cant say about longevity but the fleas were gone in two days. I have 3 big dogs a thick, long hair shephard, very short hair pitty and a hound, reg hair. I live in the country with woods close so they get into areas that have fleas and will bring them home. This year was like overnite attack of those buggers! I cant afford the monthly anymore so had heard good things about these collars and even if they last for just 5 months they will be a bargain as Chewy had them for $40.!! The biggest complaint i see with these is that they dont stay on well. I fixed that problem! After you put it on DONT cut the excess off! The end will actually stay curled and wont be able to slip thru. You can also slip the end under the collar and due to length it will stay put.I have had to tighten once on my short hair dog but was never any chance of it coming off. So this collar does the job of killing fleas, we'll see how long it lasts.
