Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

I have bought several of these collars, small to large, dogs and cats. If you have an infestation on your animals, it sometimes takes a month for effects of collar to kick in. What works for me is that I don't wait an entire 8 months to replace collars, I start ordering the 7 month and then replace the collar. I have bought collars at different times, so I don't have to take out a loan to pay for 3 cats, 2 dog collars all at once. I also use a fine flea comb in the beginning if there is an infestation and comb the fleas off my pets to help the collar along. I swear by these collars, I want my babies to be comfortable and happy, not scratching. I'm in shock! My vet is always pushing expensive pills that includes flea protection and my dog hates them. This collar not only works better than the pills it's easy to use! We also have two cats and they became infected with fleas. I tried everything to get rid of them but nothing worked to keep the fleas away. After I purchased the Seresto collars for our cats the fleas went away and straight to our dog (who was taking the pill form of flea protection) needless to say she also became infected. The collars worked so well on the cats I didn't hesitate to purchase one for the dog too. It's been a few weeks and the fleas are long gone! • Try this for itchy dogs

My Labrador has been scratching for over 2 years. I thought I tried everything from topical, oral flea meds, daily benedryl to thinking it was food allergies. After years of elimination trials, I wanted to try a flea treatment that would repel fleas before they bit my dog. I hesitated at first, since flea collars were a scary thought to me at first but I'm glad I decided to give Seresto a try and I have to say, his scratching went down 80% within a few days! If your dog is struggling with itching like mine, I would highly recommend trying this.

I have used the Seresto collars on all 4 of my Labrador Retrievers for several years now. Two of them would have some minor skin irritation around the neck and I would loosen the collars and it would diminish. I should note both were Yellow Labs. My other Labs, one Chocolate and one black, never had any skin issues with the collars. The Chocolate and Black Labs are hunters and in the water and wet fields constantly during hunting seasons. The collars were still effective after at least 7 months. The only ticks I found were dead ones either on the dog or on their bedding. These Labs would sleep on the same bunk with me at our cabin and I never had any ticks or fleas on me nor was I ever bitten I have used the Seresto collars on all 4 of my Labrador Retrievers for several years now. • Not good for long haired dogs!!!

We were having major tick problems with our border collie mix. I happened to be at the vet with this collar on her and my veterinarian told me that this collar must be touching the dog's skin in order to work, otherwise it's like the dog isn't even wearing it. For my dog that is virtually impossible because her fur is so long and thick, especially around her neck. The collar would have to be practically choking her and then causes matting of her fur. So we ended up removing the collar after a like a month and it was really just a waste of money. They really need to be honest with customers about this product because it is not a good option for all dogs. I bought 2 of these collars in August because we had been having a flea issue and monthly flea chewables are so expensive. If they weren't given exactly a month apart, fleas would return. Since putting them on our beagle and lab, we've not seen any fleas on them, their bedding, or our furniture. Neither dog has had any reaction to the collars and they still seem to be effective after swimming. I would definitely recommend these collars to people that have a difficult time remembering monthly prevention and don't want to pay an arm and a leg for year-long protection--$55 for one collar that lasts 8 months or $20 for a tablet that lasts one month and has to be given 12 times a year? Bought this for my dog for the summer of 2017 after finding ticks on him well into November 2016. When we didn't have much of a winter I was worried of a repeat and a higher chance of him possibly getting a tick borne disease. I was very impressed with this product as he didn't have a single tick on him in 2017. Will definitely be buying another for him for 2018. Definitely beats the messy flea/tick drops!

  • Two drawbacks

    By on

I purchased this product based upon a neighbor's good experience. My dog is a tick magnet, nearly all show up on his head. The literature in the package shows the medicine flowing back over a dog's body. And, sure enough, they continued to land on his head. Also, my dog had his first tick embed itself in his body. I like the convenience and the concept. I'll be talking to my vet about staying with this product. I regret that my experience and this review aren't more positive.

I have been trying to no avail to get rid of fleas on my dogs and cat for months now and spent hundreds of dollars. Nothing was working and my poor animals were suffering. I was told this collar was working for a friend so I tried it out. It worked for us!! This has been the only thing to completely work so far! My pets are now flea free and I plan to continue with the collar from now on. I definitely recommend!

  • Did not last 8 months as advertised

I have two dogs and live in a heavily wooded area of Tennessee. Product worked great for 3 or 4 months. Applied the collars in July, since October I am finding ticks almost every time I look on 1 dog. Other dog seems fine. Can't really tell if it works better than the topical products, but I do still prefer the collar method of application.
