Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

I have a black tri Australian shepherd. He is about a year and a half old. I was concerned about ticks this summer because we live in Tennessee. I had read a lot of mixed reviews on this collar. Some reported that it created open sores around their animal's neck. I'm happy to report that bandit has had no such reaction and I have yet to find a tick or a flea on him. We are outside a lot and he likes to go swimming in the pond so it's nice to know that we can be outside this summer and I don't have to remember to apply anything else to him to keep him safe. Will definitely be buying again next summer

  • Somewhat disappointing

This spring and early summer has been really bad for fleas. We treated the house, yard and dog (with topical flea treatment), with little success. We bought the collar, and our dog has been wearing it for close to two weeks. So far it doesn't work like the literature would lead you to believe, but it is better than the topical treatment. We do live in SC, in a neighborhood full of cats, so perhaps this is as good as it gets.

  • Don't Waste The Money

This is the 2nd collar we've tried and it was recommended by our vet but unfortunately this one is a disappointment also. Our GSD is still suffering with fleas and I am pulling them off of him even after the 2 hours it says it kills recurring fleas. It's way too much money to not work like it says. I guess we'll keep searching for a collar that actually works.

  • So Far So Good

A client recommended this product. I have used the liquid you put on their back=very messy. I have used the chewable=Great because it solves the messy issue but very expensive. This seems to fit the bill. It is 8 months, Great and the price was wonderful, however I did have a coupon and it was on sale. I hope it keeps the ticks and fleas away.

  • Collar does not work

I purchased this collar for my dog 2 months ago and applied per directions. I am now treating sores on his legs and belly due to his digging and scratching as a result of flea bites and he has visible fleas. I contacted the Seresto company who wasted 10 minutes of my time talking about how to flea proof my yard and environment for my dog. They refused to reimburse me for the product even though the collar is only 2 months old and is supposed to last up to 8 months. Even better, they instructed me to continue to use the product. I found this extremely irresponsible since it is obviously not effective. • ONLY THING THAT WORKED!

    By on

In my years of living in the area that I have and hiking my dogs have never gotten fleas. But this summer we were infested. I got them in my house, my bed and my dogs were covered in them. I tried topicals, I tried flea baths and natural remindes but NOTHING WORKED! I was frusterated and out of options! I tried this flea collar after reading reviews and I have finally found something that WORKS! It works amazingly! After a bath and putting the collar on I haven't even see a flea on him since! His red and irritated skin was back to normal! I can't recommend this product enough! You have me my happy dog back and a happy home back!

  • I couldn't believe it!

First let me start off by saying I use revolution on my dogs religiously! It's a FANTASTIC product! But when visiting my grandmother out in the hills of Missouri ticks are BAD. And even medications like Bravecto and such struggle to keep up with them. After a prior trip to visit my grandmother where my service dog did in fact get bit by numerous ticks, he fell ill and was diagnosed with Ehrlichia a tick born disease that can kill. So when the family reunion came up this past weekend and he is still currently fighting the disease I was hesitant to even go for fear he would get sicker. I've hear many good things about the seresto collar but never personally under one, my close friend First let me start off by saying I use revolution on my dogs religiously! It's a FANTASTIC product! I've hear many good things about the seresto collar but never personally under one, my close friend who lives in east Texas recommended I try it and so I caved and bought one. UNDER THE CARE AND CONSENT of my veterinarian I used Revolution as normal and then placed a seresto collar on him. BEST DECISION EVER NOT A SINGLE TICK LIVED TO TELL THE TALE. What few ticks ended up on him were sick as could be just crawling on him and the 3 I pulled off from biting him (on a 5 day trip) were dead as dead can be. He had no ill effects from the collar despite being on the revolution with it and heavy doses of antibiotics for the ehrlichia and even while running through a creek/swimming, going through heavy tick infested under brush, and getting a bath the collar still held up and did the job! I will continue to use this in conjunction with the revolution for him it's worked beautifully. If you have a dog that is at risk for tick born illness due to other factors the combination may be a good idea for you to! I don't know how the collar performs alone but with the revolution not a single bug was alive on my dog! Also I'm not sure if it's supposed to repel mosquitoes but it does. When he was around me with the collar on the mosquitoes stayed away! … more

These collars are the best. Chewy has them for the best price and ships extremely fast. Also made 2 separate orders of these collars minutes apart, and Chewy called to verify it wasn't by accident, which I thought was great customer service. I will be using Chewy from here out.

  • Not as effective as last year

    By on

We hike frequently with out 45 lb dog. After a hike in which we found 20+ ticks on our dog (using topical), we consulted our vet who suggested we try Seresto. Last year, it worked great! Didn't find a single tick on her! HOWEVER, this year, following a hike we again found at least 10 ticks on her. Yes, some were dead, but this collar is supposed to REPEL ticks as well. It is supposed to last 8 months, yet here we are on month 3 and it is not repelling. Disappointed.

I ordered this May 12th and it literally was on my porch the next day!! My fiancé and I recently adopted a 1 yr old chocolate lab named Oakley and we believe she has fleas. We were recommended this product to try. We're outdoors a lot and have heard nothing but good things from this product. I'm sure it will work just fine. Her and our 9 month old yellow lab are already best friends and i'll forever order off of here for them!
