Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

  • Unsure if it works

    By on

I got 1 collar for each of my 2 dogs. One is fine and has bo bites, but she is usually not as allergic as my other one. My one shih tzu that gets bit the most by fleas is now full of bites, even after wearing this collar for over a month. I am considering returning them, since it was a $108 investment. I feel that the natural spray I got here, works better. The one day I did not spray them, she got bites, so I am not sure if these collars are working.

  • Save yourself several hundred dollars on pest control

    By on

We didn't notice the ticks when we were buying our pugs from a "reputable" breeder, but on the long drive home, I noticed several ticks were on the blanket. That was July 2016. Since then, we tried several different prescriptions given by the vet, several over the counter products, an expensive pest control ($75 ever two weeks for four months). All it took was one Serestro collar and within a week, no more ticks. I HIGHLY recommend this product.

  • DID NOT LAST 8 MONTHS!

    By on

I put this collar on my 8 pound chihuahua in late April of 2017, at first it worked great until the end of August 2017. He is now covered in fleas AGAIN only lasting about 4 months-- only half the time it was supposed to work. I even removed the collar when bathing him. This would be an awesome flea prevention if it actually worked as long as it claims to. I am very disappointed with this product, don't waste your money.

  • Fast/Easy/Helpful

My "human guardian" and I want to thank Chewy.com for the prompt service when my current Seresto Flea Collar needed replaced. FYI: Flea protection is needed "year round" even if your Vet suggests otherwise. This site was easy to use, and CS was friendly and helpful. I will use them again:)

  • Great for ticks!

    By on

I was skeptical at first, but have been using this for two years! Once I got my dog from the shelter, she started having ticks all over her. I live in a wooded area, so not surprising. I had enough when one got in my ear from her sleeping on my bed. Never had a single tick or her (or me!) since. No scent and waterproof. Great choice!

  • No more fleas

    By on

I bought 3 of these collars. One large for my Bulldog and two small ones for both my Shih Tzu. No more fleas! I was using topical liquid, it did not work. These last 8 months well worth the money. Only need to remember to purchase every 8 months. Bulldogs have sensitive skin and this collar had no adverse effects on her skin. Plus the collar protects against ticks and the Mange. Highly recommend!

  • so far so good

    By on

purchased the small dog seresto collar for my 15 pound jack-rat-dachsy, and it arrived two weeks ago, so it's too soon for an informative review.. it is her first flea collar (we used drops before this) and so far, no skin burns or ticks seen... I like that it is narrow and flexible; and that it stays in place easily, with the two clips. The only (consumer) turnoff is the excessive packaging, which is unnecessary and wasteful... a huge cardboard box with paper inside, protecting a sturdy metal tin... very expensive packaging and all single-use... going to waste... other than that, so far so good.

  • SADFACE For Products

Well I thought the color was working until I keep seeing fleas. I don't know what to do anymore :( Seems like the flea comb is the ONLY thing I've bought that actually helped. Guess it's time for a trip to the Vet.

My whole experience with Chewy was absolutely wonderful. I ordered a Seresto collar on Thursday evening and it was at my door by Friday afternoon. The collar worked fantastic. The fleas were literally gone in one day. Happy dog happy owner. Thank you Chewy. The price was fabulous also.
