Instructions

Use only one collar per animal. Fit collar around your pet's neck, allowing for 2 fingers to fit between the collar and your pet's neck to ensure a comfortable, yet snug, fit. Once collar is properly fitted, cut off any excess collar measuring 1" or longer. The collar should be worn continuously for the 8 month protection period. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Keep the collar in the bag and in the outer packaging until use. Replace the collar after 8 months for optimal tick and flea protection.

Water Resistance: It is unnecessary to remove the collar before immersing your pet in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8 month duration, pets must not be bathed more than once a month. For pets that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests that are quite capable of hitching rides on a variety of mammals. Wild animals or feral pets traveling through the environment may be a source for a pet’s exposure.

Fleas may be brought to the house by:

  • You – attached to clothing, luggage, dog blankets, etc.
  • Your pet – any time your pet steps outside your house, they are potentially exposed to fleas, especially in areas where there are other animals.
  • Stray or homeless cats and dogs – since these animals are not being cared for, they are easy targets for fleas. A single feral cat walking through your back yard even just one time may drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs.
  • Wildlife – particularly raccoons and opossums. These animals typically aren’t seen very often, because they are active at night. A single opossum can carry as many as 1,000 adult fleas! An opossum walking through your back yard even just one time can drop many flea eggs into the grass or under shrubs as they pass through.
  • Non-treated pets in the household – most dogs are treated for fleas and ticks. Often, the cats in the household are not, especially if they are indoor only cats.
  • Non-treated pets in the neighborhood – you may be vigilant about treating your pets for fleas, but your neighbor(s) may not.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Inside the unique polymer matrix of Seresto are two active ingredients:

  • Imidacloprid has been used in products for years to control flea infestations.
  • Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.

Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients.

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface of the cat or dog.

Sustained release technology

Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical, but as the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations. The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. Bayer's polymer matrix technology is designed to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients for eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. The active ingredients of Seresto are contained within the Bayer Polymer Matrix, making it water-resistant. Therefore it is unnecessary to remove the collar before the pet is immersed in water. Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my cat or small dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Because some pet owners may be concerned that a cat or small dog could get stuck while wearing a collar, Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event of the cat being trapped, the cat's own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

A hard pull causes the ratchet-release mechanism to allow a widening of the collar.

The small dog and cat collars are equipped with a predetermined breaking point. A harder pull triggers the breaking of the collar at this point.

What is the expiration date for Seresto for dogs?

There is no expiration date required on the packaging by the EPA for this product. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label.

When can I bathe my dog after application of Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How often can I allow my dog to swim when using Seresto for dogs?

Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to 5 months for flea control and reduced to 7 months for tick control. There is no need to remove the collar for swimming.

How often can I bathe my dog when using Seresto for dogs?

  • We recommend bathing BEFORE applying monthly product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried.
  • We suggest using non-stripping shampoos that are specifically designed for use on pets.
  • ‘Non-stripping’ shampoos are generally soap free formulations designed for general cleansing. Bayer makes a variety of shampoos that are non-stripping, general cleansing shampoos.
  • Seresto is water-resistant and remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming or after exposure to rain or sunlight. Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for 8 months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.

  • Storage: Store in original unopened container in a cool, dry place that is inaccessible to children.
  • Disposal: Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in trash.

I have a mini-schnauzer. My dog groomer told me about this product after I told her about my problem with fleas in our new home's yard that has a lot of sand. I usually use a topical flea medication I get from my vet each month. The price of this collar for 8 months is more cost effective than what I was paying per month (upwards of $100 for 6 months). In the first 2 days of use I saw her scratching MUCH less and found a flea that had jumped onto me trying to get off of my dog (it went straight to the toilet to be flushed)! She is doing great with the collar - I also like that it comes with clip on reflectors. The small size is perfect for my girl. • Got rid of Fleas!

    By on

We recently moved to an area where fleas and ticks are a huge problem. We never had to deal with fleas before and our dogs were on Advantix for the occasional tick when we would go hiking. Within a couple weeks of moving, the dogs were extremely itchy and I found a couple fleas on our small dog. She was scratching herself raw. I got the seresto collar on chewy because they had the best price on them with fast shipping. I put it on her and within a couple days the fleas were gone and she was less itchy! Once we are done with our currently flea treatment on our big dogs, we will be getting seresto collars for them too

  • Still has fleas!

Got the flea collar about a month ago for my puppy. Poor thing keeps getting fleas. She's in the house most of the time other then potty training. I have to give her a dawn bath at least once a week. I always used Front Line flea collar with my animals before but haven't been able to find one anymore. This was the next best thing I could find and it sucks! Waist of money. Could have bought a $10 collar and it'd probably work better if not the same as this collar.

We ended up with an abandon Maltese on our rd.,he was badly matted and took us 3 hrs to shave all his matts out. Then took us 3 flea baths to be able to bring him in the house, where he was so covered with fleas and ticks.Took him to the vet for checkup and shots, and their back-up vet suggested seresto for an 8 month treatment, but didn't know they didn't sell it,So I thought what a perfect time to order, and try it out.Since I got a discount card in mail for $15 off for order of $49.00 and up.Snowball wears if fine, and I love the reflectors on it.

  • Best I've ever used

We love this collar! Its the best one out there and we've tried many. It doesn't have a horrible smell like others and after 3 months in the hot Southern Virginia heat we have had no flea or tick issues. We have also not had any skin irritaion problems like we've seen with other collars and the price compaired to the Vet approved topical treatment can't be beat. We pair it with a once a month flea and tick shampoo and even though they say you don't have to we remove the collar for bathes (just to ensure the product lasts). We couldn't be any happier.

  • A happy Yorkie :)

    By on

I have a 9 lb Yorkie , who has a severe allergic reaction to flea bites. She hardly ever goes outside much, but when she does , We want her safe from fleas and ticks. I ordered this last year , and happy to say , no fleas or ticks . When you consider the cost of frontline , and it being a chemical base , applying it on my lil Yorkie wasnt an opption . The frontline burns theyre skin. Seresto in my opinion is the best product out there. Give it a try , you wont be disapointed. Thank you Chewy for being my go to store for all my Yorkie needs . This store has the absolute best customer service in the world . Xoxoxo

  • Does NOT prevent ticks

    By on

I'm sad to write this because I had incredibly high hopes. After two hikes, it's proven itself to not work to prevent whatever ticks are in the Tennessee area. My small dog who's fur is closer to the ground and being longer haired has had a bad luck. Found a total of six and 4 were attached after the first hike. He's been wearing the collar about 2 months and no baths. It's not gotten wet and should've been in 100% working order. Then last night after our hike I checked him and there was a tick who had just grabbed ahold of his skin. They're not dieing after a few hours of biting him, either. Found one after the first hike attached to his ear after about 14 hours, filled with his blood. I however I'm sad to write this because I had incredibly high hopes.
