Transition Instructions

This food is formulated for adult, non-reproducing dogs over one year old as puppies and pregnant or nursing mothers have special nutritional requirements. It is important to slowly transition your dog from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5 - 7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness® each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness® CORE® by day 7.

CORE is highly palatable so your dog may tend to eat more of this food. Watch initially to see if you need to adjust regular eating patterns. Give your dog access to clean, cool fresh water at all times and feed Wellness® CORE® wet food in combination whenever possible, to increase the level of water in your dog's diet. Nutrition is the foundation of wellbeing, but be sure to give your dog plenty of love, exercise and see your veterinarian regularly!

We transitioned our 11 month old Rough Collie pup from Wellness CORE Grain Free Puppy Formula to this Wild Game Duck, Turkey, Boar & Rabbit Recipe both because she wasn't overly fond of the puppy recipe, and because she's nearing a year old. Where she'd graze all day on a bowl of the puppy food, she enthusiastically ate bowlfuls of this Wild Game recipe, seeming to really like it. However, as soon as she was on this kibble exclusively (without the puppy food mixed in), her bowel movements increased in frequency and ... volume? Though her stools were still firm, she began having to go 4 or 5 times a day, even whining to wake us in the middle of the night to go out. I bought a small bag of the CORE Grain Free Chicken recipe to mix in with the Wild Game, thinking maybe it would help with the frequency of bowel movements. It didn't, mainly because she won't even touch the chicken flavored kibble. So, sadly, because of these issues, we're phasing out the Wellness to try Acana Heritage Meats Formula. I've still given this a four star rating, because Wellness is a top-shelf food, with grade A ingredients, but this particular recipe just doesn't appear to agree with our dog. … more

  • My dogs seem to love it!

My dogs were being fed a lower quality food and there shedding and itching was AWFUL so I decided to try a higher quality food. They have only been eating it about 1.5 week so I haven't noticed much difference in shedding but they love it and it seems itching has def. decreased. I read several reviews on other pages that stated it help the dogs coats and shedding so my fingers are crossed. lol.

  • Great Flavor, Large Bites for Smaller Dogs

    By on

After recently switching our dog to Wellness Core, I ordered this for our dog who had previously been eating the Small Breed Turkey & Chicken Recipe as we wanted her to have some flavor variety, (& I did see on a review that the kibble size wasn't very large). This is one dry dog food that she actually seems to enjoy. For her to gobble up what's in her bowl & want more has never happened in her 5 years of life until now. All this being said, because she is a smaller dog she has to break the larger kibble down into smaller bites just to eat it, so definitely a bit large for a 15 pound dog. Very frustrating that Wellness Core only has one flavor option in the small breed recipe. • We Found a Winner!!!!!

My dog suffers from colitis and has frequent flare ups. I needed to find a food that would work with his sensitive tummy. I fed him Wellness Core small breed in the past, but switched to another brand because he needed something without potatoes. On a whim, I decided to look at Wellness again because he was having too frequent flare ups and I just hate him being on antibiotics so often. We decided to try this after reading the reviews. He LOVES it and it does not mess with his belly. I mix it with a limited ingredient turkey wet food (Zignature) and add the Honest Kitchen Pro Form gastrointestinal supplement, as well as digestive enzymes and a probiotic. My dog loves this food and his coat is very shiny from it. He suffered from itchy skin as a pup and this food has been the answer to that problem. Love that I can order online for the same or cheaper price as driving to the store now!

I'm willing to pay up for a quality, grain free product that I know my dog will enjoy. He's a chocolate lab and his coat is shiny and full thanks to the quality ingredients in this food.

  • Pitbull likes it and does well

    By on

We adopted our Pitbull in March. She had been on Alpo, and had very dry skin, with a lot of dandruff. She was also overweight, so I switched her to Wellness Core Reduced Fat. She did well on it, and liked it, but the dandruff persisted. I tried Kirkland Brand, and her condition was immediately exacerbated. So, I decided to go back to Wellness Core, but try a version without chicken, beef, turkey, etc. Enter Wild Game. My dog really loves it. But, most importantly, her skin isn't as dry, and I haven't seen any visible dandruff in weeks. I've heard that it's been discontinued, so I'm sad by that, but will continue feeding it to her until I can't anymore. And, a note about Chewy's shipping We adopted our Pitbull in March.
