Dogs over 100 lbs: Add 1/4 cup per additional 10 lbs.

Combination Feeding: If feeding with Wellness wet food, reduce dry amount by 1/4 cup for every 6 oz of wet food.

For pregnant or nursing dogs: Since DHA is transferred to puppies in mother’s milk, we recommend feeding this during pregnancy and nursing. When pregnant, feed up to 50% more food according to body weight for 12 mos. For nursing dogs, allow her to eat at will.

Every puppy is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size, activity level, breed and environment. Please use feeding guidelines as an initial recommendation and adjust as needed.

Transition Instructions

It is important to slowly transition your puppy from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5 - 7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.

  • Healthy for my lab boy

    By on

My now 10 month old lab had some issues with the original food I had been using so after much research on all of the large breed puppy options and trying another brand, I found Wellness LBP to be the healthiest. It has the exact calcium/phosphorous levels recommended by the large breed food research on the web. He has never had any problems with itchiness, runny eyes, etc. on this food. He has gained a slow amount of weight (esp the past four months when it slows way down) that is ideal for a large breed. The only issue is that while he loves it when he starts eating it, I often have had to do things to get him excited about it. In the recent cold weather, I have put a little warm water My now 10 month old lab had some issues with the original food I had been using so after much research on all of the large breed puppy options and trying another brand, I found Wellness LBP to be the healthiest. The only issue is that while he loves it when he starts eating it, I often have had to do things to get him excited about it. In the recent cold weather, I have put a little warm water on it which seems to bring out the smell more and that has been working wonders (kind of like a faux gravy). Previously I had to mix other more enticing food with it to get him interested. That is the only reason for the 4 star review and not 5, but health-wise, doing these things has been completely worth it. … more

  • Wonderful Quality

    By on

This is some of the best dog food I have ever bought. I have tried some other dog food brands and my dog was never really fond of them. Some of them smelled "off" or did not seem so great. This dog food has been a lifesaver. My dog is more willing to eat her dog food and this looks and smells like high-quality ingredients. This also does not upset her extremely sensitive stomach! So that was a huge plus! I have also started to feed our new puppy this food and she likes it as well.

  • Mastiff pup growing perfectly

    By on

My mastiff pup, Hoodoo has been on this food per my vet's reccomendation, since she came home at 8 weeks. Now at 6 months, she is gloriously healthy. We looked for a calcium to phosphorus of 1:1 and planned for slow growth. We followed the chart on the back and weighed Hoodoo every week. She gained weight as expected and has had energy to spare. It seems that her coat is exceptionally nice, which is something I have read is a common comment for those using this food.

  • gassy puppies

    By on

I bought Wellness because my Old English Sheepdog puppies liked the taste, and the reviews I read claimed it corrected loose stool. It didn't firm up my puppy's stool and it also gave them horrible gas. OES tend to have touchy stomachs, so it's probably just my dogs.

  • Helps slow down eating

    By on

I am currently in the process from Wellness Core Puppy to Wellness Complete Health Large Breed Puppy. I changed it because my pup wouldn't chew his food and just swallowed it and also because I saw from an article that feeding normal puppy food can cause problems like unhealthily rapid growth or obesity. I don't know about the latter but my vet said it's a good idea to do that and he sure did start to chew! The core series is grain free and this isn't but I hear that the grain free thing is overrated...like gluten free people food, and I don't think grain is bad...only when given excessively so I don't mind a little grain!

  • Large Breed Puppy Food

    By on

As a breeder I always insist on a large breed puppy food. Feeding a large breed a regular puppy food will cause them to grow too quickly and in the end can cause hip displaysia and other joint issues. Its also important to feed your large breed pup, puppy food until they at 18 months old. This is when most large breed stop growing. Consult with your vet, however if they tell you it doesnt matter find a new vet. Health of a large breed pupoy is easential their first 18 months and their food is a key part if that. The better quality of food, the longer your pup will live. Wellness large breed puppy and adult food is a good balance of diet.
