Dogs over 100 lbs (45 kg): Add ¼ cup (26 g) per additional 10 lbs (4.5 kg).

Combination Feeding: If feeding with Wellness wet food, reduce dry amount by ¼ cup (26 g) for every 6 oz (170 g) of wet food.

For pregnant or nursing dogs: Since DHA is transferred to puppies in mother’s milk, we recommend feeding this during pregnancy and nursing. When pregnant, feed up to 50% more food according to body weight for 12 mos. For nursing dogs, allow her to eat at will.

Every puppy is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size, activity level, breed and environment. Please use feeding guidelines as an initial recommendation and adjust as needed.

Transition Instructions

It is important to slowly transition your puppy from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.

  • Great puppy food!

    By on

We have a 6 month old Basset Hound pup who loves this food! Our only problem is her eating habits vs. the recommended daily feeding; She's a grazer and sometimes has a hard time eating the full daily amount indicated on the bag, depending on how she feels on a given day. But she is gaining weight, her heavy Basset bones are growing nicely, her stool is firm and not too stinky, and her coat is super soft and shiny!

  • Large Breed Puppy Food

    By on

As a breeder I always insist on a large breed puppy food. Feeding a large breed a regular puppy food will cause them to grow too quickly and in the end can cause hip displaysia and other joint issues. Its also important to feed your large breed pup, puppy food until they at 18 months old. This is when most large breed stop growing. Consult with your vet, however if they tell you it doesnt matter find a new vet. Health of a large breed pupoy is easential their first 18 months and their food is a key part if that. The better quality of food, the longer your pup will live. Wellness large breed puppy and adult food is a good balance of diet. • Ava loves it!

We switched our 6 month old Rottie from Wellness puppy to Wellness Large breed puppy per recommendation of our vet. She loves the change in flavor, and her bathroom habits have become "regular and like clockwork"! We will continue to autoship with this new food!

  • My puppy doesn't love it

    By on

I started my puppy on the CORE and then switched to this because he is a large breed. He always loved the CORE but isn't crazy about the Large Breed Puppy. Sometimes he'll just leave it in his bowl which he didn't do with the CORE. Thinking about transitioning him back.

  • Not as good as the wellness core

    By on

Started my German shepherd pup on the wellness core and had no issues. However, he turned 6 months old and is a very big pup at 75 pounds. I decided to switch him to the wellness large breed because it sounded like a healthy food for a large breed and it was a bigger bag for close to the same price. My GSP will not eat this large breed food. He turns his nose up at it. I've even tried mixing things with it. I will switch him back to wellness core puppy. 2 stars because the wellness company is still a good brand. Chewy customer service gets 5 Stars for being awesome!

  • Great Puppy Food

In my past life, I bred show Alaskan Malamutes and always had great results with Wellness. I have not had a dog in a couple of years and recently purchased a pup. As is no surprise, he loves the food and is doing wonderfully. Just the right balance for a large breed pup.

  • Verdict is still out

While my GSP had tried two different brands previously, still not sure this is the one for him. He's 8 months old and per the vets recommendation, I'm feeding him more than the recommended level of feed. Now, he had stopped gaining weight on the previous brand of feed and since being on this food for only 2 weeks now, he has started to gain weight when feeding him the recommended levels, so he might just be playing catch-up with his weight. I don't think he's fond of the flavor of the food, but I'm beginning to think when it come to dog food he's just particular. His coat on the previous food was getting dull looking but less than a week of changing his food to this his coat has gotten a nice shine to it again and he looks like he's building more muscle all over again. So as long as I keep seeing improvement I think its a good food. However, the price is enough to break the bank, and I just mean in general no matter where you buy it. Although, chewy is better priced than the chain pet stores. So, I think its a good food, just awful expensive. And might could use a little more fat in it. … more

  • Trying This Food

    By on

We just got a Labrador puppy and I was looking for a good food for him. This was recommended by a friend. I researched dog foods and after the confusing maze, I decided to try this. We will see! Grain free is one characteristic I was looking for.
