How do you ensure the quality of ALPO dog food?

We maintain a strict code of standards for buying, storing and processing ingredients used in our pet foods. These standards are among the strictest in the pet food industry so you can feed our food with confidence. Visit here for more information.

How do I know how to feed my dog?

How do I know if my dog is overweight?

Feeding your pet is 1 of the most important ways you can care for him. Once you have chosen the right food for your pet, you can develop a plan for portioning and scheduling.

Why can’t I find the calorie information on my can/bag of ALPO dog food?

Some of our pet food packages do contain caloric information. If the product package you feed does not contain this information, we’ll be more than happy to help.

What should I consider when selecting a dog food?

Select a dog food that is 100% complete and balanced for your pet’s life stage. All of our dog foods come with feeding instructions to help you properly feed your pet depending on his size. ALPO is complete and balanced for each life stage and will contribute to your pet’s overall health, along with regular exercise and attention to any of your pet’s special needs. Please visit our ALPO dog food products page to review and select 1 of our dog food products.

Do I need to introduce new food gradually to my dog?

You should consider gradually transitioning to new pet foods to help avoid dietary upset. We recommend consumers introduce a new pet food over a period of 7 - 10 days to help avoid dietary upset. Each day, increase the amount of the new food while decreasing the amount of the current food.

After opening, how long can wet food be left out?

We don’t recommend leaving wet food out for more than 2 hours after opening. Any remaining food should be refrigerated in a covered container and should be kept for no longer than 3 days.

Can I microwave canned pet food?

We do not recommend microwaving pet food that has been refrigerated. The food may heat unevenly, creating hot spots that could injure your dog’s mouth. In lieu of microwaving, we recommend allowing about 1 hour for the product to reach room temperature before serving.

What is complete & balanced nutrition in dog food?

Dog food makes up the entirety of a dog’s diet, so it needs to deliver all of the nutrients in appropriate amounts your dog needs at each life stage. That’s why dog foods so often use the phrase “complete and balanced.”

Where do I find dog food coupons?

While we offer coupons from time to time on our ALPO website, click here to register and be among the first to know about any coupons or special promotions. Our coupons may also be featured online, in magazines, in newspapers, like the Sunday paper, in/on our packaging and occasionally in stores.

Where is ALPO dog food manufactured?

We proudly produce our food in US factories.

Our dog loves this add in!

    By on

Our dog wasn't eating the dog food we were buying for her, even though it was an expensive brand with her special diet and nutrients. I gave this a try, and now she eats all of her food everyday! It is not messy at all. Before I would have to come up with other add ins that involved cooking and cutting, etc.

    Soft mess free food

    By on

Great to add as a mix in with dry food if you want to avoid messy stinky wet mix ins. It did take my dog a few packages to get used to it but he now seems to like it pretty well.

    Great meal topper

    By on

My babies wont eat their morning snack without their mixer. They are so hooked and I find it's a great way to hide meds for my oldest. Of course it's Alpo so I know I can trust what I feed them. They happy then I'm happy

Our older Schnauzer loves her Alpo

    By on

Our older Schnauzer loves Alpo better than most other dog foods and can be quite the picky eater. She also likes the little bags of toppers, as she does not have all the teeth she used to have. Pooping is working great, as there are not any runny episodes, and if she forgets and poops in the house, easy clean up for an old dog, who is forgetting what she knew before. Best of all, she is getting to eat something she likes in her older age.

Do not purchase if you are concerned about your dogs health

    By on

My dog recently had to switch from grain free food due to Doctors orders and we were having trouble getting him to eat his new food, I stumbled upon these mixers and ordered them to add into my dogs meals. When I read the ingredients upon purchasing I noticed the second ingredient was high fructose corn syrup amongst several other syrups and ingredients I couldn't even pronounce. I will not be feeding this to my dog!

    Dog approved

    By on

I decided to try this because of the price as well as their liking another brand. They gobble this up and at times root around to find it since I mix it in the dry food. I'm at this time unsure whether I'll buy more or stick with the one they like a bit better...but don't regret giving it a try.

    High priced and not necessary.

    By on

I thought this item would be something special. There are other alternatives that can be added to dry dog food that less expensive.
