    Doesn't heat

    By on

I'm really annoyed that this heater won't hear my fish tank. I ordered a heater according to aqueon's recommendation and it won't even keep it at the same temperature of the room it's in, when it's supposed to hear it to at least 5 degrees above the room it's in. Now I have to order a new heater.

too big for small betta aquarium

    By on

I have a betta fish, and what they made it seem like was a small little heater. But nope, its absolutely huge! do not recommend for any medium or small tank.

    doesn’t work

    By on

The lights don’t work as well as the heating. The temperature is set at 94 but the thermometer reads 74. The dial is broken as well. The heater is not heating up the tank. Would not recommend.

Description not accurate (no more green light)

    By on

I purchased the 300 watt heater specifically for the advertised green light to indicate when the heater has reached the set temp. However, the latest model (as of May 2018 per the manual I received) is made by another manufacturer and sold by Aqueon, but DOES NOT HAVE A GREEN LIGHT. The Instructions on the Chewy product page (dating back to 2011!) do not even mention a 300 watt heater in the product line, and the newly manufactured heaters have product numbers now ending in "H" (300 watt heater I received is product # AP300W-H). The manual I received with my heater removed any mention of a green light, and Aqueon confirmed that the new models no longer have the green light feature. So, if you plan on spending a few extra bucks for the Pro because you want an indicator light (like i did), then look elsewhere!! Also, the thermostat seems to be off by at least 3 degrees as others have mentioned. I had to crank it past 80 to get my tank to 77-78 degrees, even thought it is on the smaller size for a 300 watt heater. It still works but isn't accurate, so I would give this 3 stars for functionality and 2 stars overall for inaccurate description and lack of green/red light. … more

    Horrible brand

    By on

Got this a month ago and just installed the 300w on a 40 gallon Breeder and it doesn’t even heat it up at all. This is my second experience with this from this branch so it’s definitely the last time I purchase aqueon products seeing as how they make junk !

    EXCELLENT - Read this review

First, I keep thousands of gallons of fish tanks and am experienced in MANY heaters and types. There are many benefits to going with the 'Aqueon Pro' line of tank heaters. The green/red led indicator is the best feature - allowing you to always know that it's doing its job. The polymer-like design is less fragile than glass - but be sure to keep it suspended and off the tank wall and substrate or, like most heaters, it will ruin the heater. To attest to the ability of this heater: I ran (2) 300-Watt heaters in a 220Gallon tank; I pulled one out and the other kept it at temp with good water circulation. I've owned 10+ of these heaters (100-300W models) and they last 5-8 years for me on average First, I keep thousands of gallons of fish tanks and am experienced in MANY heaters and types. Had 2 didn't work out of the box

    By on

Had to give it 1 star. Received 1 unit it didn't work out of the box following their instructions exactly. Chewy gladly sent me another heater. This unit also didn't work out of the box. Received a refund. Chewy is a great retailer. Not their fault. Manufacturing issue.

    Disappointed

    By on

This heater was recommended to me by a petsmart employee saying it's one of the best to get. I find it pretty important for a heater to be close to the temperature I adjust it to. This is at LEAST 6 degrees off. Unfortunately a fish I got from petsmart infected my tank with ich and I was told to kill ich adjust temp to 82 degrees. I have it set on 86 and have barely reached 80. I even put another thermometer in to make sure this was correct. Also this is INCREDIBLY hard to even adjust the temp, the knob is almost impossible to turn. My husband said it almost feels like you need a clamp on it to grip it enough to turn it. Maybe mine is defective. Actually, I hope it is so other people dont have This heater was recommended to me by a petsmart employee saying it's one of the best to get.
