  • My two dogs go nuts over the grain free greens

    By on

My little dog who is now 11 needed a diet switch. His liver enzymes were super high on his blood work. We found a butcher who takes an entire chicken & grinds it up into a meat paste. We give the. 1% of the body weight am and 1% pm, they split a raw egg & we use the greens. Before we used pumpkin, blue berries and wheatgrass. I feel much more confident that this HK greens is balancing out all of our dogs needs. The poop is really solid and a lot more now- I guess that’s a good thing since they both have anal glad squeezes every few months (maybe this will help?). Need our do another blood panal on Arnold, now that he is on a100% raw diet. PS my two dogs looooooove the greens!!!!

  • Not enough food

This is the only HK recipe we can feed our dogs, due to severe food allergies to poultry, potatoes & carrots. My dogs have been on this food for about 3 years or so. You have to double up the feeding guides because it is simply not enough food. My dogs are older (10 & 7), so they should be eating less calories, however because of the "natural foods" we seek, and the dehydrated form of this recipe, it is just not enough food for a normal, healthy dog. When you have to double up the daily amount for each dog, one 7lb. box turns out to be one week's worth of food for $60 after tax, times four weeks; then figure in the cost of quality protein we have to add and we are over $500 per month for This is the only HK recipe we can feed our dogs, due to severe food allergies to poultry, potatoes & carrots. • Quick and easy

    By on

I have been feeding Honest Kitchen to years to the dogs. Recently, I bought 1/2 of a cow and decided to feed it to the dogs using the Honest Kitchen base mix and adding the beef. I am still transitioning from Honest Kitchen Marvel and adding more of the base along with the beef. I am cooking the beef, but the suggested feeding amounts are for raw meat, so there is some adjustments I need to make in the portion. I like the idea of knowing the quality of the meat.

  • Dogs love it.

Since I'm no longer feeding canned food to my dogs, I had to find something else to flavor the kibble. After mixing, the base mix is green but all five dogs ate it anyway. I have been feeding them THK for a bit now and their coats are soft and shiny. And I've noticed my chihuahua has a lot more energy. The product is expensive, but I used to spend that amount on canned food and THK lasts longer so it's a good value as well.

  • Excellent alternative for older dogs!

    By on

I have 2 black lab mixes that are 9 years old. Wanted to get them on something a little bit healthier for them in general, and kinder to their joints. Have been using HK grain free for about a month now. The dogs absolutely love it! Stools are much firmer, no more issues with anal glands. Add chicken, fish, or beef. They are eating better than my husband and I! My only (minor) criticism is the time indicated for re-hydration (3 minutes). Not enough time (or water). I make enough for 2 days at a time and the mix is very dry. When I add more water, it is fully absorbed. So I add more water than recommended.

  • Labradors!

I wasn't sure my dogs would like the idea of eating fruits and vegetables. It was highly recommended for there health. I am happy to say they love it ! I can see the difference in their coat and they seem more satisfied after their meal. They seem to metabolize the food better too. We will stick with this food choice.

  • Love this brand!

Switched to THK when Orijen moved production to the U.S. and now I'm wondering why I ever fed my animals kibble. Marked uptick in energy and their stool is really good looking. I have used the base mixes and complete mixes and liked all of them but settled on using both base mixes half and half and cook my own protein which I rotate weekly. I also like that they are USDA certified and their recall history looks good with only one recall which was due to parsley they got from a supplier which they found out after the fact could have had salmonella which they QC test for but never found any nor had any reported incidents from customers. Regardless they recalled as a precaution and according to Switched to THK when Orijen moved production to the U.S. and now I'm wondering why I ever fed my animals kibble. That makes me feel like they care. … more

  • Makes my dogs happy

    By on

I own small dogs (10-17 pounds) and feed 2x/day. I mix a heaping tablespoon in with their kibble and add broth from Chewy. Once they figured out the addition was tasty, they now can't wait for their meals.

  • Dog laps up green food

    By on

Didn't know how my dog would take to green sludge but apparently looks aren't everything because she licks up every little bit. Have been mixing this dried assemblage of flakes 50/50, as recommended, with one of their meat based mixes (just add water and let soak a few minutes) with good results. Healthy, happy, vibrant dog eating doggie health food. Good bye, bagged kibble, even the high quality brands. This stuff has it beat. Would also be perfect for backpaking/camping with your dog!

  • LIfesaver for Golden Retriever

    By on

This food was a lifesaver for my Golden Retriever who reacted to every food I tried him on, both commercial and homemade. This worked beautifully for him. I looked at the pkg when it arrived and thought surely all that plant material would mean diarrhea, but NO, he stools were perfectly normal. A friend uses it for her dogs, too. We found if the stools were a little too soft to just add a bit more meat.
