  • Great product!

So far so good. Have two older dogs (12, 13) with fussy stomachs and was considering cooking their food after a year or so of transitioning from one high end food to the other. Can't tolerate chicken or too many grains so I decided to try the base mix and find the proteins they can tolerate. My one dog loves it and is doing really well, will start the other one on it soon, after getting through the pumpkin, rice and hamburger phase of his intestinal cool down. I had heard about this product, fed it to a dog at a kennel I work at and am incredibly impressed with the results I've seen in others. Finger's crossed, this could be it for life!!

  • The best, nothing artificial

    By on

Wow it has taken me over a year to find this amazing food for my dog Maisy. I have never cooked for my dogs in the past but trust me it is so easy. Maisy would eat anything haha so I can't really tell you if the flavor is right but her poops are beautiful and that makes me happy. The base mix smells like fresh herbs and grass and it transforms into a paste after you add water. Then some lightly cooked grass-fed beef and it is done. I love knowing that there is no hidden junk or fat in my dog's food. Thank you The Honest Kitchen for that and Chewy for amazing customer service.

  • May Be the Final Solution

    By on

Our dog is 4 yrs. She got worst bout of bleeding gastritis ended up in ICU. She has always been on very high end kibble. Dx. was not confirmed but options were: 1. bad viral or bacterial bug, 2. parasite too early to detect, 3. food intolerance, or 4. inflammatory bowel disorder (need scope and couple thousand dollars to verify so not done at this time). We talked with our vet, she recommended this base (over the Kindly) and we are cooking grassfed/organic ground beef to add to the base. Our beloved pooch is enjoying it. Only a month in, so too early to know what results will be. So far, so good!

  • My dogs are eating better than they have in years.

My two dogs, yorkie mix and chihuahua mix took about two days to get used to the Honest Kitchen base mix. They eat well and produce good stools. No digestive problems switching their food immediately upon receiving The Honest Kitchen food.

  • Verdict is still out

I'm still not sure about this product. It smells like silage and my Belgian Malinois isn't crazy about it either. My GS puppy is away at board and train but he eats anything and I believe he will be more enthusiastic about it-I hope.

  • My Berners LOVE this food

We have 4 Bernese Mountain Dogs and just had a cancer scare with our 3 year old. So relieved to report good news on that front with a benign tumor, but it made me truly search for the best food to feed them. I read an article about feeding raw that spoke highly of the Honest Kitchen's base mix and other dehydrated foods so I tried them. Oh my gosh what a difference at meal time! They line up next to me with their eyes following my every move! I used to have to hand feed them the second half of their high end kibble to get them to eat it. Their poops are so much easier to clean up as well. My question is this ... I am trying to determine whether it is more cost effective to feed them the options with the meat already included or to use the base mix and add raw or cooked protein. I don't mind doing the extra work of adding the protein but when I do the math, the base mix actually costs more than the mix with the protein already in it. Plus the cost of the protein I would need to add makes it even more lobsided. Can anyone help me understand this? … more

  • My puppy Leo boy

    By on

Love this food! I have initially started him out on it because a friend told me it helped her dog to not have seizures anymore. My dog has frequent seizures or spasms. I've taken him to the vet but they suggested a CT Scan and a spinal tap & its $2,500 so we're trying everything possible! Has anyone had this happen??

  • Our pug loves this premix.

We have been feeding Honest Kitchn's Preference since our pug Elly was six weeks old. She is the picture of health and this is any easy and healthy way to feed raw. We simply mix raw meat in with the Preference.according to directions. Elly loves it.

  • Perfect for Picky Eater

    By on

After being diagnosed with cancer in December, Zebe has not had much of an appetite, skipping 2-3 meals at a time. The only solution a homemade turkey and rice mixture. However, I worried this wasn't nutritionally balanced to keep him healthy. Thanks to the suggestion of the Chewy team, I tried Honest Kitchen dog base (I add the turkey). I never imagined, he would be licking the bowl clean. Two weeks later and his enthusiasm for his food continues. Yay!

  • Dogs love it

    By on

I tried Honest Kitchen years ago and my dogs would not touch it. I am now on my 3rd box of the base mix, have used both this one and Kindly. Dogs love it. And I love adding my own human grade meat. My dogs are picky, so I am very happy they gobble this up.
