For Adult cats, feed 1 can for every 6 - 8 lbs of body weight per day. Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, feed up to 3 times the normal Adult amount per day.
Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature.
Gradually transition your pet to any new food over the course of 7-14 days to help avoid the digestive upset that abrupt changes in diet can cause. If your pet tends to be on the sensitive side, it may be best to take a little extra time. 1. Start by feeding your pet a mix of 25% new food and 75% old food for the first few days. 2. Then, increase the amount of new food to about 50% and feed that half-and-half mix for a few days. 3. Proceed to feeding 75% new food/25% old food for the next few days. 4. Complete the transition by feeding just the new food on its own.
I have been struggling to find a wet food replacement for my three young adult females (all under 4yrs). They loved Holistic Select, which is no longer being made, so we gave this one a shot...amongst others. From a "mom" stand-point, this is a nice product to feed your furbaby/ies: quality is good, smell is passable, pricing was comfortable...I just wish my girls would do more then try to bury it. If my girls had gone for it, I would have appreciated larger cans so only one can is opened nightly for their three individual dinners. That saves on environmental waste and personal time. Imma tree hugger as well as a furbaby hugger, after all!
All 6 of my cats love Dr. Elsey’s in all flavors. This beef smells just like cooked hamburger. I really like this brand and feel good about the ingredients. Highly recommend!
This was my first time trying canned beef with my cats, and they both love this wet food! Both cats really love their wet food mixed with hot water, so I always add a little bit from the faucet until the wet food is smooth and slightly liquidy (not too much though or it'll be too watered down!) - almost like broth consistency. While they think the chicken from this brand is okay, the beef is always gobbled up until the bowls are licked clean! Sometimes I have to add another topping to the other flavors of this brand's wet food to really get interest, but not with the beef! They go crazy for it straight from the can with no other additives. I'll definitely be buying again!
I have 5 cats and they all seem to like this food. I switched to this brand because most of the other brands have peas and lentils in them.
Here’s the breakdown. PROS: In my opinion, Dr.Elsey’s is, hands down, the best source for affordable premium, species appropriate, cat food. Their food is made with exactly what your little carnivores need to be healthy: high quality meat—no plant based proteins; no weird fillers; no rendered meats; healthy levels of ash, magnesium, and phosphorus to ensure urinary tract health. All the ingredients are geared towards heath, rather than profit. PALATABLE: It’s a soft, moist pate. Perfect for sensitive mouths and tummies. My seniors all love it. HEALTH IMPROVEMENTS: My seniors used to suffer chronic FLUTD. Emergency vet bills galore, despite following dietary recommendations. We’ve had ZERO problems with FLUTD after we switched to Dr.Elsey’s. I’m absolutely relieved to have found a high quality diet that helps them. Many of the prescription brands had questionable ingredients and were loaded with fillers. I feel better knowing they’re getting a species appropriate diet now. TRUSTWORTHY: Dr.Elsey’s a responsible company. They’re dedicated to helping animals. They’ve NEVER, in all their years, had a single recall for any product. Many premium brands are unable to claim this. SAFE: Particularly with COVID driven meat shortages, I like to be especially careful that the brand I buy won’t switch to cheaper, questionable, potentially recallable meats.I trust Dr.Elsey’s. DISCLAIMER: Okay, I know I’m over the top raving about this food—I’m not an advertiser or anything. I’m just so appreciative of a quality food that I can trust. You cat lover out there will understand. Moving along... CONS: I have zero complaints. However, I will caution that if your cat is hooked on lower quality, carbohydrate laden wet foods, they may need to gradually adjust. It’s worth the switch. I gradually mixed increasing quantities of Dr.Elsey’s with their former brand. We had no problems. Now, my kitties cry out and beg when they see the can! I’ll also add that my cats have only had the beef variety. I cannot speak to the palatability of other flavors. This last bit I’ll add isn’t exactly a con; it’s just a caution/ common sense disclaimer. While Dr.Elsey’s wet foods are crafted to help maintain Urinary health. And while my FLUTD cats do remarkably well / seem to really benefit from Dr.Elsey’s formula——ALWAYS consult your veterinarian if your cat has these issues. Good food helps, but is not a replacement for veterinary care! Hope this review helps!
Dr Elsey's makes the best cat litter period. Now they make the best food. If you take the time to read the ingredients you will see they are top notch. No corn or rice which cats cannot use and no silly stuff like carrots and cranberries they do not need, The ingredients are protein and more protein. That is what your carnivore requires to be healthy. Oh and they like it. :)
My cats love pretty much any wet food but I feel good about giving them this since it's rated pretty high on the CatfoodDB website. When it's on sale it's an incredible value for the product.
All of my 4 cats initially cleaned their plates but after about 4 cans now they turn up their noses. This has been my experience with "beef" foods for cats.
I have 3 kitty boys, and 2 out of three love this canned food! The other one doesn’t like pate’s in general so I knew it would be a fail trying to get him to eat it. The ingredients are great. We stick to the chicken, turkey, and beef because it doesn’t have the menadione sodium bisulfite complex(source of vitamin K activity) ingredient. The other flavors do. After doing some research I have found that this is the only “bad” ingredient. In the long run, it seems to have a negative impact on the liver of our cats. Just something to keep in mind! Again, the beef, turkey, and chicken cans DO NOT have this ingredient so they’re absolutely wonderful! I definitely recommend this food if your cat has interest in patès.
Dr. Elsey’s food was purchased as a cheaper alternative to cases of Fancy Feast for my boy. He is allergic to poultry, so finding something without chicken or turkey is difficult. And at first, he ate the food with his usual gusto. But now, he leaves half of the serving in his bowl. And the girl cat won’t even sniff it, but she isn’t a big beef fan anyway. Overall, the quality is good, it isn’t packed with a bunch of juice, so the product is worth the money. I just wish the cats would eat it better. However, I will not dock stars for my finicky felines. I’d buy the brand again if I knew for sure Princess Picky would eat it.
