Description

Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Long Haired Litter is safe and healthy for your cat. It is an amorphous silica gel infused with hydrolyzed herbs to draw cats to the litter box. Long Haired Litter traps urine and odor on contact and has the right particle size that long haired cats prefer. It will not adhere to the cat’s long fur and it will not color the coat. Each jug contains a free Litter Box Solutions Booklet.

Key Benefits

  • Silica gel litter infused with hydrolyzed herbs draws cats to the litter box
  • Particle size long haired cats prefer, won't adhere to or color kitty's coat
  • Traps urine and odor on contact
  • Biodegradable, hypo-allergenic and non-toxic
  • Easy to scoop, low tracking formula

Additional Details

Always wash your hands thoroughly after waste removal. A parasite sometimes found in cat feces can cause toxoplasmosis. Please do not flush cat litter in toilets or dispose of it outdoors in gutters or storm drains.

Transition Instructions

  • Pour Precious Cat into a clean litter box, using half as much as you would with a clay based litter. Top off the Precious Cat with the litter you are using now, mixing as you add.
  • Give your cat time to get used to the crystal texture.
  • Once your cat is used to the crystal texture (about one week), empty the litter box completely into the trash, and refill with Precious Cat.

  • I’ve tried it all

I have two long haired cats. One of our cats would get really bad tracking on his back legs, the clay litter would always stick to his fur. But the biggest decision to try the crystal litter was because our youngest cat likes to sniff his litter, and he was constantly sniffing litter up his nose and our veterinarian advised us to get a heavier litter because ingesting cat litter can cause upper respiratory issues. So we decided to try the crystal litter and after two weeks of using the litter we are all very happy! Our cats went in the litter right away, they weren’t upset about the change from clay litter to crystals. I was worried about the color of the crystal it is obviously dyed but the I have two long haired cats. It is a very dusty litter, when I pour the litter into the box I have to cover my face because it is so dusty. The other negative is that it doesn’t clump (which I knew before buying) but I am still very pleased. The litter works for our cats so we’re happy. I hope this helps! … more

  • Amazing, fantastic product, but NOT a clumping litter

    By on

I never write reviews; I just read them. I was reordering the litter for my cat and I happen to look over the Q&A section. I saw that Chewy listed it as a clumping litter. While I absolutely LOVE this product and recommend it, and give it 5 stars, and will only use this and nothing else for my long-haired cat, please do not think that it clumps in the way most other litters do. The litter sticks to the kitty poop and you should scoop that out asap/regularly as recommended. However, the cat's pee is NOT scoopable. The litter itself looks similar to the kind of salt used to melt snow (but IT'S NOT the same thing! I just want to help provide a visual for the color and texture.) Every so often in between times when you change the litter completely, you should mix it around so that everything is absorbed equally and is refreshed. Gradually the white crystals will begin to turn yellow, and after about a week or two depending on how much your cat or cats use that particular litter box, you can change everything out and start again. My cat lets me know when she is pretty much ready for me to change the litter box. I go through between one and two of these containers a month. The amount you use probably depends on the size of your litter boxes, how much your cat has to use the litter boxes, and how much litter you pour into the boxes (which really shouldn't be nearly as much as the clay type of litter). Those of you with cats who don't have any litter box or pee pee issues, the price may seem exorbitant. I know I would have thought so in the past. But these days it's well worth it to me! I guess it all depends on your situation, but the product definitely does work! … more

  • Love this litter!

    By on

Dr Elsey's crystal litter is exactly what we have been looking for. No dust, no sticking to our long haired cat's fur and no dragging it thru the house stuck in their paws. Excellent waste coverage and odor control. I was so tired of the dust regular clay litter produced it wasn't even funny. This crystal litter will be in our cat's boxes from now on!

  • It Works! Great litter

    By on

I love this litter. My cat has very long fur, especially in the back area, and she also likes to have a party in her box when she goes. I find minimal traces on the floor, the odor control is great, and I find I change the box less frequently than I do with traditional litter.

  • Not the best BUT...

    By on

This kitty litter is decent. Definitely better than clay, cedar, and pine. Easy to scoop. The down fall is that I don't feel is covers the urine smell as well as another brand I have used. This price is also good.

  • Better at smell control

    By on

This product definitely controls the smell of urine a lot better than regular clump litter and isn't nearly as dusty. However it requires more than the recommended "1 inch" of litter (otherwise my cat just digs a hole and poops directly on the bottom of the litter box). Therefore, it doesn't last as long and is more expensive than expected.

  • I recommend it

    By on

Very lightweight. Barely tracks any litter at all. Paying an extra $6 per box is completely worth it considering it is has no dust at all & is non toxic. I recommend it!

  • Litter-care

    By on

The best, long lasting cat litter I have ever used for my cat. It truly is remarkable, pretty much dust free, stays fresher longer, and does last longer during each litter change. Highly recommended.

  • So much better than standard litter

Not only does it work extremely well, but my dogs are no longer stealing bits from kitty litter box and ingesting litter! Thank you!

  • Okay product

    By on Top 250 Contributor

I bought this litter because we have multiple cats and some prefer the crystals. My long haired cat did not have any issues with this litter sticking to her fur but the colored crystals stained our litter box horribly. The litter also is not great at locking in urine odors. After about 2 days I was already smelling a strong urine odor. The litter also clumped together in the corners where my cats had urinated multiple times and was hard to remove from the box when scooping.
