If you spend hours cleaning multiple catboxes because of cats that overspray in the box then this litter is for you! I have 7 cats and some of the boys find it necessary to spray all over in the box. I spent way too much time cleaning catboxes. Now with this litter, no more spraying. Honestly I feel like it's a miracle!!! As well the litter clumps so well I don't have to spend a lot of time picking out all the small little pieces that fall through the scoop. I do add a little fresh step for odor control though. Not sure it's necessary but I know fresh step does a good job for multiple cats. Did I say I LOVE this litter!

  • Contains Clay

    By on

I bought this along with another brand of Grass Cat Litter in order to compare them. This brand has less of a woody smell but it is much heavier. I read some reviews and realized it contains clay. While it has very little dust, I'm trying to get away from clay litter entirely because the grass littler has no dust at all! And because I'm an aging cat lady, I'm sick of heavy litter. So I won't be ordering this again. If you don't mind heavy litter or that there's some clay contained in it, then I would recommend this! It's not smelly, it has very little dust, and the clumps are rock hard. • Great Stuff!

    By on

I started buying Dr. Elsey's for their kitten litter when I found a 2 week old feral kitten and nurtured her back to health. Her delicate paws wouldn't tolerate the other cat's litter so I tried this and she loved it, as did the 6 others. Now that she's almost 3 I thought I'd try this less expensive type and I found that she loves it just as much. The granules are just as small and delicate, and it clumps really well too. It has a nice natural and subtle scent to it, kind of like the great outdoors. It's even better in the 40 lb bags, the price is great, and it stands up to 7 cats pretty darn well.

  • Absolutely NOT

This litter is terrible. The worst I've ever purchased (and with 13 cats, I've purchased a lot). This litter specifically mentions working with mechanical litter boxes .. yeah, it works .. if you want to break it! This stuff turns to gummy/sticky/concrete .. sticks to the bottom of the tray like putty, it is now wedged inbetween the tines of my BRAND NEW auto litter box (so now I get to take it apart and figure out how to clean this mess). I've used autoboxes for 3 years and have never had this happen. I have a cat that constantly tries to get outside so I thought this might help him, and this brand is used at all the cat shows for the exhibitor cats, and it specifically mentioned mechanical This litter is terrible. • CLUMPS!!!!

    By on

Have used wheat based and walnut based litter in the past. Thought I'd try grass based litter. Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Touch of Outdoors Cat Litter seems heavier/denser than other litters. It seems surprisingly dusty, which seem intuitively wrong. It does clump. Boy, does it clump! The clumps are like lumps of concrete. Couldn't ask for better clumping. It also means, it sticks to the litter box pretty well. Still evaluating. Likely won't use it alone. May incorporate it into a blend: a cuvee of cat litter, if you will.

  • repackaged boxes

every shipment in the past had leaking and damaged boxes with a trail of litter up my sidewalk from the Fed Ex truck, I had quit ordering this from Chewy until a friend told me the company redid the boxes so they didn't leak. I didn't believe her until I ordered some myself and when I opened the packing boxes there was no mess, not a grain of litter! My cats prefer this cat litter, it's less dusty than most, and doesn't have a horrible fragrance. I have rods in my back so it hurts to haul these heavy boxes from the pet store (plus I hate shopping) so very happy to be able to be able to order these from Chewy again!

  • Only litter my finicky former feral will use...

    By on

I have a former feral, once I got him to trust me enough to come in for feedings, I decided to try getting him to use a litter box so he would not have to be outside for another winter. 6 litters in 3 different style litter boxes, no luck, then upon recommendation from the volunteer tending the rescues at a petsmart, I tried The Cat attract variety were I got pees but no poos, next up was Touch of the outdoors, and he was quick to do everything, and we have been inseparable ever since. Negative reviews are shocking, I mean if you're accustomed to the perfumed variety you should realize these are not scented, I've never noticed odors before or after box use, but my former feral requires I have a former feral, once I got him to trust me enough to come in for feedings, I decided to try getting him to use a litter box so he would not have to be outside for another winter. Negative reviews are shocking, I mean if you're accustomed to the perfumed variety you should realize these are not scented, I've never noticed odors before or after box use, but my former feral requires the box be cleaned within a minute after using it so I do clean the box several times a day. Best of all, filling or cleaning the box does not leave you smelling like the litter's perfume scent like other brands since it is not scented, something I am reminded of every time I cat sit for someone. I've had one box in 3 years of use that was dusty which was a surprise but also a fluke as I've noticed this brand is far less dusty than the big brands, of which I always swore by fresh step (not anymore.) Another negative review said the 20lb box felt heavier, than the 20lbs they were used to? Seems like 20lbs would weigh 20lbs to me. I highly recommend this brand for anyone with a cat, yes pretty perfume scents may appeal to your human aesthetics, but cats are more sensitive to smells than we are, both perfume scents we appreciate and unpleasant ones like a dirty litter box and even though it doesn't claim to be dust free, with my bad back, I generally pour litter in the box from a couple feet above without a grey dust coating all over the bathroom. … more

  • Am sure it is good for certain cats, just not mine

    By on

Am sure it would be 5 stars for others, yet was no stars for mine. I gave it 3 stars for others as to not discourage others from purchasing it. My cats feet immediately became muddy with the litter stuck between her toes after using this litter as she pees more each time than most cats. So it just didn’t work. Then she tried to clean her toes which was horrible as she was ingesting it (doesn’t like her toes touched). So it was a mess and very stressful for her. So I had to immediately dump it out of her litter box. I love Dr Elsey’s litter, it is very very low dust. So I quickly ordered her both the Precious Cat Ultra Clumping which solves the issue. I also ordered the ground walnut shell litter Am sure it would be 5 stars for others, yet was no stars for mine. I gave it 3 stars for others as to not discourage others from purchasing it. • Thought this was ALL grass - my mistake

    By on

I do not use clay litter, ever, I really dislike it. I only use grass, walnut shell or very rarely wheat. I saw this litter listed in the "grass" section at a very good sale price - half the cost of my regular brand. I swear I re-read the description several times to be sure it was ALL grass & could not find anything that said it was a mixture of clay with grass. When the package arrived, my hubby commented on how heavy the two 20 lb boxes of litter were...alarm bells went off. This is clay litter, supposedly with some grass in it. I hate it. To me, it has a sour smell, like all Dr. Elsey's litter that everyone else seems to love, even immediately after scooping, which I do a lot because I am I do not use clay litter, ever, I really dislike it. • Great Litter-But doesn't last as long as the box says

    By on

I love this litter. I adopted a cat and she had no issues whatsoever with this litter. It also masks odor really well. The only negatives were it really was not low on dust (the dust was fairly strong when changing litter) and the box does not last as long as it says (one month). My box lasted about 2 weeks total.
