Questions & Answers

Sometimes my cat coughs after using this litter. Are you sure it's not causing respiratory issues, especially if they use it over a long period of time? Other than that, they absolutely love this litter and there is virtually no smell.
Answer by ChewyFeb 14, 2018
This litter is virtually dust free and will not cause respiratory problems. If you notice your cat coughing for a prolonged period of time it is recommended to seek veterinarian attention.

How does this help prevent kidney failure?
Answer by ChewyMar 12, 2018
Urinary infections are one of the causes of kidney failure in cats. The litter grows no bacteria and it does not stick to the coat of the cat. By using this litter, the cat is able to keep their genitals cleaner which in turn will decrease urinary tract infections and lower their risk of kidney failure.

I have a diabetic kitty. Clumping litter gets stuck in his fur between his toes. Does this litter keep this from happening? Does the stirring make the urine absorb into the sand?
Answer by ChewyOct 02, 2017
Crystal litter works great with cat's that have long fur since it doesn't get stuck. However, it is recommend to only remove the waste and to rake or stir the crystals for aerate litter.

I'm used to clumping litter. How do you clean the litter box and how frequently must you completely change the litter?
Answer by ChewyJan 08, 2019
You should remove solid waste daily and rake crystals to ensure freshness. One application of litter will typically last two weeks depending upon use. After two weeks, completely dump the contents of the box and wash with mild soap and hot water.

Crazy dust

I find this litter unusable due to the clouds of dust that arise when I sift even oh so carefully to remove the solids. It is scent free and does a great job of covering smells but the fine powder dust that billows up and coats my face, hair, clothes, and surrounding items is a deal breaker for me. Also, my cat sneezes the entire time he's using it. I realize the brand itself does not claim to be dust free but a Chewy answer to a customer question said the litter was virtually dust free so I took a chance. The litter box will be hauled outside and this litter dumped into a garbage bag to be thrown away. The search for great litter continues.

This litter snob loves it!

Its fabulous. I have tried every litter and this one takes the rake! I scoop out solids, stir the litter. Whenever i see a larger amount of urine i gently scoop a little of that too. I find it keeps the box cleaner longer. But you dont have to. It really does stay looking clean for a while. There is low dust when initially refilling the box. I wear a mask just because. Its not toxic but i still wear one. I dont see any dust after that. My picky boy who had issues peeing outside the box loves this litter. Because its soft, unscented and feels clean every pee. He is a clean particular cat. I was able to line a litter box with a small doggie pee pad and he was using that wonderfully for a while. I decided to try litter again. He loves this. I still have the litter pan with the pee pad as a back up. I highly love this litter. So much i may pee in it too LOL just kidding!

Beware! Check your kitty's butt!

This litter was one of my favorites years ago. I got a new cat at the time and it no longer worked because of him.. Went back to trying it and while the litter was just like it was and I thought I was happy.. My oldest was having a twitching fit (prone to anxiety attacks that mimic hyperesthesia) and we couldn't figure out why? My husband grabbed him and went to give him a bath.. There was litter stuck to his butt everywhere that felt like sandpaper granules!! His butt hole to his pantaloons fur.. Right at the skin level.. He must have been miserable!

Not Impressed

I bought this because I have a Litter Robot and wanted to switch from clay to crystal Litter. I had been using Dr Elsey’s clay litter but it kept sticking. Thought I’d give this a whirl. Well, I am not impressed at all. It did have some dust and there was some odor at times. What made me hate it is that most of the litter was yellow from pee after two weeks and then it just became pee sludge in the bottom. So every time the Litter Robot did a cycle, the sludge would then be all over the inside. GROSS!!! I would not recommend this for anyone with a Litter Robot and I will not buy it again.

Constant stirring, awful smell

I really wanted to love this, and for the first three days or so, I did. However, the instructions tell you to put one inch of litter in the box, and that with daily stirring and scooping of solids that one inch of litter will last 2 weeks. My cat is diabetic, and urinates more than the average cat, so maybe that’s why, but after the first three days the litter box had the absolute worst smell when I stirred it. I also had to stir it a few times a day to keep it from stinking up the house. The urine does absorb into the crystals, but it takes time, and I think that’s what causes this. Back to clumping clay litter for me!

New favorite cat litter

I have tried many clay cat litters which are way too heavy. Then I tried crystal cat litters which either did not cover the smell or were like stepping on rocks or legos. I have four male cats. Two old men and two younger cats. So I have a lot of cat litter boxes to clean and scoop. This cat litter is light weight. Looks and feels like white sand. It doesnt hurt if I walk on it. Plus there is no smell of pee or poop. There is a small amount of dust because the dust is what absorbs the liquid parts of the poop and helps contain the smell. But it has the same amount or less dust as all the other 99.9% dust free litters I have tried. If you dont move around the litter enough the pee will start to clump. I just scoop out those clumps whenever they form. You'll know when to change the cat litter when it looks more yellow than white. My cats like this litter way more than the other crystal litters. And will choose this cat litter over the other kinds of cat litters when I've had multiple types of cat litters in the different litter boxes out at the same time.

The best litter!

I purchased this cat litter before and it’s amazing. I am glad Chewy has it so, I don’t have to drive around from store to store. My cat enjoys this litter.

Purrrrfect!

My kitty loves this litter! It truly is Low Dust! When first testing it I dumped it, stirred it around and shook it in my plastic container I keep it in for storage, and there was barley any dust. Its gentle on her paws and lungs. If she accidentally trails some of it around the house its no big deal. Unlike other popular silica litter which are like glass if you step on it. I like to be barefoot in my home. And now I put a bathroom mat to catch any stray bits and rub down her paws I doubt I will have an issue with any litter leaving her bathroom closet. Yes she has a whole closet with a privacy curtain. I sprinkle some arm and hammer for cat litter down. Less than a quarter of a cup. And then I put this litter on top and boom, no smell. Make sure to stir it after they urinate or the urine collects in one spot and then you have to scrape it off later. Would definitely recommend this litter to any owner. It is a little more expensive than regular litter or other silica litter, but it is worth the price. Thank you for helping keep my cat comfortable, my house smelling nice and for making a solid product.

Really good litter!!

I have tried so many litters. All of them bad for one reason or another, too dusty, no odor control, cat hated it. Well, I think we have a winner. It took her a little while to get used to the texture, but she seems to like it now. And wow, no odor, easy to pick up solid waste, stir in liquid waste. Very little tracking. So yes!! We have a winner.
