This product has been in the litter box about 3 days and I can smell urine from another room! I've never had that happen with litter before. When I first used this, I added it to my cat's normal litter, like one does and it seemed to work ok. I cleaned the litter box a couple of days ago and put only this litter in. First sign that something wasn't right was that my cat pooped outside the litter box, something she rarely does. Then today I walked in the room where the litterbox is and I thought my cat had peed on the floor the smell was so strong. I'm going back to her original clumping clay litter.
I use this litter for self cleaning litter boxes I have four of them all over the house. It usually does not last as long as they say, but I do have two cats using it non-stop and I prefer it to be nice and fresh so I switch mine every 7 days or so .
I will preface that I dont typciallly use crystal cat litter but really wanted to love this and saw it out until the entire bag was gone. Unfortunately, it was so smelly I couldn't even enter that bathroom anymore. I was scooping and raking the box twice daily and it would even smell right after. I cannot recommend although I do love the other Dr. Elseys clay litter products!
Definitely helps with the smell compared to other litters. However, it tracks pretty easily and is all over our floor even with our mat to help prevent that.
So we have 3 cats and 2 boxes due to space at the apartment buuutttt they swap boxes anyways even if we had more. We were using pellet litter worked pretty good but horrible clean up so I switched us to Crystal litter. Whelp. With three cats 2 boxes it lasts maybe half a month and we’re set for auto ship every 3 weeks now. I may try and find a new litter but not too sure what to get at this point. Dust is not bad at all and the crystals are soft no paw issues have been found.
I was skeptical about using crystals, but they truly trap urine inside the tiny particles and the box doesn't smell! Only down side is some cats don't like the feel of it on their paws. One of mine was raised on it- the other doesn't prefer it.
Unless they’ve changed the formula since we bought it this past summer, it is so dusty that I could see a cloud of dusty with every scoop and it would make me cough every time.
I really do feel like this litter is much better than the clay litter from tidy cats that I was using at keeping the smell in check. It's not crazy dusty either like the clay was. What I absolutely do not like about this litter is how easily it is tracked all over the house. I have vortex mats and even still the litter is everywhere. I may have to switch to a different crystal litter simply from the tracking issue.
We are crystal litter veterans and this is by far the worst at smell control. In three days, the urine smell was as bad as other brands are in three weeks. It was also surprisingly dusty for something touted as respiratory friendly. I would say in the top two or three dustiest we have tried. It gets one star for particle size, less big and pointy than our usual. I do not get the positive reviews on this at all. I could not wait to be rid of it.
My cat abandoned the litter box for about a year after we moved. This litter brought her back to the box. Works for about 2-3 weeks before I can start to smell it and know it needs to be changed. I am able to divide one bag between two standard size litter boxes. It is very fine which is great for her feet but it does track easily.
