Foods Made to Match Your Pet

When shopping for Dr. Tim's pet foods, you'll notice the labeling indicates an activity level. That's because they're made to complement your pet's lifestyle, with ideal ratios of protein, fat, carbohydrates and fibers to help her thrive. You'll find recipes that are specially formulated for active pets, low-key pets, extreme athletes and those in need of weight management.

Active

ACTIVE: This food is designed for the sporting dog that's active more days than not—dogs who hunt or jog every day, herding dogs, police dogs and the like. It's made for maximum digestion, an important consideration for these dogs that's often overlooked. Protein types and levels, fat types and levels, and fiber sources are formulated to maximize performance and recovery.

Casual Lifestyle

CASUAL LIFESTYLE: This is a diet intended for the dog who lives a normal lifestyle—sleeping on the couch, running around the backyard or going on car rides, walks or hikes and basically just living the good life. The only regular exercise she might get is tail wagging when she sees you at the end of the day, or some loving nose nudges.

Extreme Athletes

EXTREME ATHLETES: This food is for dogs who are serious about working nearly every day for long periods of time, such as sled dogs and dogs who hunt most days of the season. It's extremely high in fat, high in protein and low in carbs, with the highest levels of essential omega-3 fatty acids and loads of antioxidants. Performance, endurance and recovery are all enhanced.

Weight Management

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT: This diet is intended for the dog who has put on some extra weight. High protein allows your overweight dog to be more active, and moderate fat allows her to feel satiated so she doesn't beg—an essential part of the equation. The omega-3 and antioxidant profiles help reduce the inflammatory stress that's prevalent in an overweight dog, too.

It's perfect for use as a food topper to encourage pets to eat and enjoy their meals, which makes it a great choice for finicky dogs or those who are ill or tired of the same formula.

About Dr. Tim's

As a veterinarian and accomplished musher, Dr. Tim Hunt understood his dogs' need for a food that promotes stamina, endurance and performance through proper digestion. Armed with a cement mixer, a cache of ideas, and an aversion for other diets on the market, Dr. Tim took to his Michigan garage on a mission to formulate a food that replicated a natural, wild diet for his Alaskan Huskies. Today, Dr. Tim's focus has since expanded to bring an honest, nutritionally sound food—sourced only from North America's highest quality ingredients—to every dog.

My 4 1/2 month male copper Siberian Husky loves the food he's always super excited about chow time. This is the second bag of Dr. tims food that I have purchased for him and I still have around a 1/4 of the last bag. My brothers dog which is an ame. Staffordshire terrier doesn't care for his food but my brother buys for him but I can tell he really enjoys Dr. Tim's kinesis! This is the only food we will be buying in the future.

  • Wonderful Food

    By on

I have three sporting dogs that I have recently started feeding Dr. Tim's Active Dog Pursuit Formula dry dog food. In a short period of time I have noticed improvement in their coat, energy and health. All three dogs eat the food with no problems at all, one of them being a very picky eater. I highly recommend Dr. Tim's.

  • Ingredient list not impressive

    By on

The first four ingredients are not what I would consider top of the line. Where is the meat? Chicken meal, really? There are many other foods on the market at this higher price point which offer more for your money. A breeder recommended this with my pup, but we have transitioned from it.

Great food fast service and great prices! Switching our service dogs food was simple and easy she loves the flavor of the new food and she had no tummy trouble that is normally the case when changing foods.

  • Spits it out like at a baseball batting cage :(

    By on Top 100 Contributor

like the ingredients , no recalls and larger bag size ... May work for your dogs but... My dog spits it out projectile like he is at a baseball betting cage ! Fed Dr Tims food years ago to different dogs (they passed away old age) but there were some "out of stock issues" and a $20 bag price jump overnight ( rpm formula) I moved on to a 5 star Canadian brand. The Canadian brand changed formulas so I revisited Dr Tims will all paws crossed it would now be better in stock and steadier prices without leaps overnight as in the past. I Like the new foil bag and was hopeful. but dog spitting it out projectile across the floor is not a good sign he will ever eat this food. • Dr Tim's Active vs Kenesis

    By on

I have been feeding Kenesis, but when it was out of stock(no doubt due to breeders like myself finding out about this quality product) I ordered Active as a temporary replacement. My dogs love it. The transition had to be done quickly, rather than over a couple weeks as is usually the case. Very little gastric distress for most of my dogs. After 3 weeks feeding Active, I have to say, I may keep some of my adults on it. For some of the younger dogs, I think it may have a bit too much protein which contributes to soft stools. Overall, both formulas are topnotch...and I am recommending them to all my new puppy owners. Great job Dr. Hunt!

  • So far so good.

Haven't made the switch for very long, but doesn't appear to be any digestive problems and my dog likes it fine (she's not picky though).

  • Higher calorie food for active dogs

    By on

We have just started (2 weeks) transitioning our 16 month old black lab to Dr. Tim's Pursuit. So far, so good. She loves it and licks the bowl clean. We decided to give it a try as she is very active and was begging for more food. This formula is a nice in-between food as it has more calories than other high end dry dog foods, but not as many as the formulas for working dogs. We read about Dr. Tim's on Pet Food Advisor and decided to give it a try.

  • Perfect for dogs of all types and ages

    By on

I have three 15 lb terriers of different ages:1 yr, 8yr, 14 yr. They are highly active and hike daily. Dr. Tim's provides the nutrition they need to stay healthy and active. Even though my 14 year old is missing the majority of his teeth, he still manages to eat the small kibble and never turns down a meal. Dog food advisors gives Dr. Tim's a 5 star rating. Thanks Dr. Tim!

  • Product stale and unpalatable to the dogs

    By on

The Chewy kibble is rock hard and clearly stale. To get the dogs to eat any of it I have to mix regular Purina Sport four to one with the Chewy. One of my Springers is due to whelp in a few days and I wanted the benefit of the advertised ingredients for puppy development but the addition of the Chewy kibble has lessened all of my dogs willingness to eat good amounts. Anecdotally, the pregnant gal was 3rd in the National Open Field trial in December and her pups have all been spoken for with no advertising. I now wish that I had only purchased one bag as a trial and feel like the purchase was a waste and I cannot speak favorably about it.
