Instructions

*Rinse the filter thoroughly under cool water before placing into the filter housing. This will remove any loose charcoal dust, which is harmless. A small amount of charcoal dust may shed for the life of the filter. This is normal and not harmful to your pet.

*Remove the flow control cap and spout ring, then unscrew the filter housing cap and insert the filter. Place the filter inside the housing with the tab facing up for easy placement and removal. Replace the filter housing cap to secure the filter in place.

Filters help extend the life of your fountain and pump and should be replaced every 2 to 4 weeks.

    Very good filters

    By on

These are very good filters and seem to make the water system last longer between getting black algae/mildew in it. They do more than the white filters dothat go around the pump in the base. If you can only afford to replace one type of filter, these do more and trap more inside them than the white filters. I have 2 very large dogs who get their slobber in the bowl and it suds up. So I still have to rinse out the bowl completely twice a day and add new water, change out the filters once a week, break down the bowl once a week and soak it in a vinegar solution every 1-2 weeks or black algae comes back. Washing the parts in the dishwasher also helps keep the algae away and it gets rid of the vinegar These are very good filters and seem to make the water system last longer between getting black algae/mildew in it. Maintaining the drink well fountain is still better than washing out multiple regular bowls several times a day to ensure they get fresh clean water. … more

    I Recommend these filters

    By on

These filters are helpful in keeping the water in the drinkwell fountains clear and fresh longer than it would be if the fountains were run without them. This is particularly useful in a multiple animal household and in warmer weather. The design of the fountain and the filter renders them easy to change when needed.

    Spend The Extra Change ...

There are similar cartridges on the market not manufactured by Drinkwell available for purchase. They pale in comparison and don't do the job.Get the original and Chewy has the best price for same.

    Great Filters

    By on

These filters are great. They are easy to change out and they do a great job of filtering out particles. I love how easy they slip in and out of the fountain. I also like the fact that you get so many filters that you don't have to keep ordering them all of the time. Job well done.

    Finally, a filter

    By on Top 25 Contributor

That actually filters. I've had about 5 different models of fountains because I have several cats and 2 dogs. I've been dubious of how much the previous filters helped the water. The water in the 360 fountains is forced upwards through the filter, actually purifying the water, instead of just sitting in the water. I empty out whatever water is in the bowl in the morning and when it has a hard time flowing again, it's time for a new filter. It gets all built up with gunk and doodle-drool. I'm not sure that a filter lasts for even 2 weeks like the manual stated, so I've subtracted a star.

These filters are easy to replace and last quite a long time. We have two running water units for our cats and they love them.

Work well but pricey and wasteful:)

    By on

These are easy and simple to use and they work well but at a little over $1 each (when you buy 12), they aren't cost effective for me. I have 7 cats and I have to clean the system and filter about every 5 days. Cat hair builds up against the intake portion of the pump and I have to stay on that. No filter can totally fix that. There's also an excess of packaging and plastic waste associated with them. That's what makes them so easy and convenient. But, if you're willing to do a little more work, you can make your own filter for about a third to half of the price of the replacement filters. For under $17 I can get a 9 ounce jar of activated charcoal and a 10 ounce bag of aquarium filter These are easy and simple to use and they work well but at a little over $1 each (when you buy 12), they aren't cost effective for me. For under $17 I can get a 9 ounce jar of activated charcoal and a 10 ounce bag of aquarium filter floss that will make 30 to 50 filter changes easy. Maybe more. The charcoal is a little dusty and should be rinsed first. I have a small mesh strainer for that. I only use a tablespoon or so. I put a pinch of the fluffy floss in the bottom of the filter chamber so the charcoal doesn't fall through, add the rinsed charcoal and put another pinch of the floss on top. That's to keep the charcoal from floating up and out the spouts as the filter chamber fills with water. Don't use too much of either charcoal or floss as the flow of water could be impeded. You only need a little. To empty, take the filter chamber (top off) and tap, upside down, against the inside of the trash bin. It will all slide right out. Much less waste, no plastic, much less cost, effective and easy to do. I feel good about changing the filter as often as I like without feeling wasteful. These Drinkwell filters are all-in-one, easy and convenient. I'd highly recommend them if time is of a real premium for you. But, if you can take an extra couple of minutes to save some money and be kinder to the environment, this works well for me. I think it will work well for you as well … more

    Filters work great

    By on

These work great for my cats water fountain. I do rinse them off and use a little longer than changing out every two weeks. It seems ok to do that.
