Questions & Answers

35 Customer Questions

Is the ceramic lead free? Also is the center piece that the water flows from also ceramic or is it plastic? I have a cat who gets chin acne from plastic and the vet recommended ceramic lead free bowls.
Answer by ChewyAug 05, 2019
All Drinkwell Pet Fountains are rated well below the current US standards for lead content in ceramics and the lead composition of this product is .1 mg/L. While the fountain frame and center tower are entirely ceramic, the pump that the fountain uses, as well as the filter housing which the water flows through, are plastic or have plastic components which the water makes direct contact with.

Does anyone know if I ran my fountain 24 hrs would it be a large electric bill?
Answer by ChewyOct 22, 2017
The Drinkwell Avalon uses approximately 2.255 watts of power consumption in a 24 hour period and the power adapter is designed for standard U.S. 110 volt power outlets.

How often should I replace the carbon filters?
Answer by ChewyApr 29, 2018
The drop-in filter is simple to install and should be replaced every two to four weeks to maintain optimum freshness and help prolong the life of the pump.

How long is the powercord?
Answer by ChewyFeb 20, 2018
The cord is approximately 5 feet long.

The perfect fountain

This is our third Drinkwell fountain. Started with the original, upgraded to the platinum. My girl started asking for the kitchen faucet to be turned on again. Stopped drinking from her fountain. Took a chance on this one that bubbles up. She loves it. So far not yelling from the kitchen sink for me to come and turn on the water. Win win. Worth the investment. I love the nice heavy ceramic bowl and how easy it is to set up, ad water to, and clean. I have the fountain on a rubber mat on an old uneven wood floor. Hearing nothing at all from the pump. As other reviewers have said the water bubbling and cascading is surprisingly loud for such a little thing but I like the sound of it. Very zen. And the box arrived with a nice big piece of packing paper to jump into. The very best paper for the maximum noise.

Works Great. Cats Won’t Use It.

It works, as a fountain; I don’t think the filtration does the job though as within a couple of days the sides begin to feel slimy and I have to presume the flavor of the water tanks, as the cats ignore it. There was some early curiosity but now this is just white noise and, even if I clean it every other day, the cats still have no use for it. Waste of money.

Great Fountain

We bought this fountain over two years ago. All three kitties love it. It has held up very, very well even with our hard water. I really appreciated that it was not plastic, cleans up nicely. We didn’t mind the sound, don’t hear the motor just the sound of trickling water (I found it rather soothing!). However, I have extremely severe arthritis in both of my hands and over the last two years it has become just too heavy for me when cleaning it. (The weight actually makes it better, kitties can’t tip it over). I’m sad to say I had to go back to a lighter, plastic fountain, but I have passed this one on to a friend who is now happily using it. Her kitty loves it and it continues to work perfectly. I would still recommend this without reservation and feel it was well worth the money.

If you’re reading this, buy this fountain

This is the third cat fountain I’ve owned and BY FAR THE BEST. Compared to other fountains I’ve bought, it’s worth the money. It’s quiet, I only ever hear the water itself, it’s simple to put together, my cats love it, and it’s easy to clean. What more could I ask for?? Other fountains are hard to keep clean, have unreliable filters, or my cats find joy in tipping them over- but not this one! I will admit, however, I placed it on a small shoe tray with rocks around the edges to prevent my little monsters from tipping this one over, but I am very satisfied with this purchase and I’d recommend this to anyone I know.

Awful automatic water bowl for my boy

I have been doing the rounds on the automatic water bowls for a very fussy cat. This was my second try. I like how well made it is but it is very loud and my cat was too intimidated by the nose to go near it.

Good product but requires a lot of maintenance

I like this. My cats like it. but I have to clean it often and replace the filter often. I’ve had it 9 months and I have to replace the pump. I don’t know how that compares to other cat fountains but I had higher expectations

Randomly stopped working

I got this fountain in April of 2020. It was a little hard to get full clean (the ceramic itself not the filters) but I loved it, it worked great and looked nice. However, it randomly stopped working. The water doesn't flow, it doesnt even sound like the pump turns on. I was definitely keeping up with maintenance, but even cleaning the pump and putting in all new filters didn't work. I have another (plastic) fountain that I've had for over 2 years that still works great, so I don't really know what the problem is with this one. Very sad because it was a really great fountain, but definitely not worth spending the money just for it to break not long after you get it.

Do not buy this fountain

Waste of money. I wanted a nicer looking fountain. I bought two of these and they both went out in a few months. Very sad and upset. The drinkwell plastic ones are better.
