Kills tape worm + how to give a pill

By Bevy on Jun 18, 2020

Working in cat rescue years ago, this was my preferred wormer. For tapeworm, a second dose is needed in 2 weeks to kill any new hatched eggs! Be sure to read the label for correct dosing. My best luck for giving pills? Use a dropper to give cat a bit of water to moisten their throat. Have pill ready Working in cat rescue years ago, this was my preferred wormer. Use a dropper to give cat a bit of water to moisten their throat. Have pill ready, coated with butter! After giving pill, give a bit more water via dropper and love / praise kitty for being sooooo good! :-) Give kitty a small amount of watered down soft food as a treat and to prevent stomach upset or vomiting. Good luck. … more

    Drontal - major side effects

    By 2Cats on Mar 13, 2020

Our kittens had severe side effects to this medicine 2 nights in a row and we had to stop it. The kittens had such serious eye reactions to the drug they must not have been able to even see well for hours and hours. They couldn’t recognize each other and would hiss and were scared of each other when they would walk into a room. A weird white membrane formed over 1/2 their eyes. Like a milky colored film. Their eyes also would roll back. They acted totally drugged out for hours. One of them vomited and foamed are the mouth hours after they had the pill administered. They were obviously nauseous and couldn’t eat or drink til the next day. But the scariest effect was the eye membrane and the psychotic episode of just staring into space, moving super slowly and drugged, not being able to really see. … more

    Country cats

    By on

Our four cats have a job: they are outside all day catching mice and gophers. They get worms from their prey. Ten pound cats need a tab and a half of Drontal. It works, but why does it cost so much? Please work to bring the price down.

    VERY effective for roundworm, but...

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

Drontal is probably the best medicine out there for roundworms. Clears it up when nothing else works. BUT... the pills I got are 3/8", even larger than an aspirin for humans. I nearly choked my cats trying to stick this in their mouths. I've used Drontal in the past and I recall the pills being much smaller. So then I tried crushing it, mixing with water, and using a syringe. Nope, they're bitter, and my cats salivated goopy yellow froth all over the floor. Tried mixing it with food, they wouldn't touch it. Out of desperation I called my vet and brought all 8 cats in. They have a Drontal prep that's a banana flavored liquid, and the cats took it without any problems. So having bought 16 pills Drontal is probably the best medicine out there for roundworms. If it weren't so effective at getting rid of roundworms, I would have given this 1 star. … more
