Why is your company called Earth Rated?
Earth Rated is a lifestyle brand for dog lovers. We’re a company of pet owners who want to help other dog owners do their part. Dog waste is an environmental hazard that affects our everyday life and can make dogs and people sick! We provide affordable and fun products to keep communities clean so that all dogs (and their humans!) have safe spaces to run and play.
Are your bags biodegradable?
We strive to ensure we continue to make a fun and affordable alternative to the traditional plastic grocery bag. Our green-colored bags contain an EPI additive which helps them to break down, unlike traditional plastic bags. A similar technology is used in most dog waste bags labeled as “biodegradable” however, due to the updated U.S. Federal Trade Commission regulations, as applied to our industry regarding biodegradable labeling standards, we are unaware of any bag manufacturer that meets the requirements for biodegradable dog waste bags that ensure degradation in a landfill environment within the one year time frame required by the FTC. As an alternative to our green-colored bags, we do offer a white-colored, vegetable starch-based bag. These bags are unscented, meet the ASTM D6400 guidelines and can be disposed of in a municipal compost environment where pet waste is accepted.
What is your box packaging made from?
All of our packaging for our bag line is made from recycled materials, and we use recycled paper cores for the rolls instead of plastic ones. In addition, our packaging and cores can be recycled after use.
Why do you have plastic windows on your packaging?
We offer our bags in a variety of different formats, and the recyclable plastic window on the packaging of some of these formats allows customers to see what they're buying without having to open the package in the store. It also helps to keep the scent from dissipating too quickly before purchase!
Where does the lavender scent for your bags come from?
Our scent formulation for our bags is derived from various types of plants, including spice plants, flowers and fruits and complies with standards set forth by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA).
Do you have an unscented version?
Our entire collection of various formats is available in an unscented option - look for the blue color-coded packaging in a store near you!
How should your bags be stored?
We don’t want you getting poop on your hands, so here are some tips to avoid this! Do not store your bags in direct sunlight or humid places. Do not keep bags for more than 1 year from the time of purchase. If purchasing many boxes at one time, please ensure to use the oldest boxes/bags first.
How should I dispose of my bag? Are your bags flushable?
Our infographic does a great job of explaining how to be a responsible dog owner and why picking up after our pets is important. All bags containing poop should be disposed of in trash bins, not flushed or left on the ground. Contrary to popular belief, a good rainfall doesn’t make dog poop just disappear. It’s washed into storm drains with the rest of the rainwater, which unlike water in the sewer system, isn’t treated before being released into our lakes, streams, and rivers.
Can you mark the last bag so I know when the roll is going to end?
We are always looking for ways to make our bags more convenient and are currently looking into how we can make this happen, while still offering a high-quality and affordable product!
I am having trouble opening the bags, why is this?
Dry fingertips can sometimes make it harder to pull the bag open, especially in colder temperatures. We want to ensure our bags make picking up after pets as easy as possible. Should you have trouble opening them we suggest pinching the top of the bag to separate the sides, or perhaps try our handle bags here with a wider opening.
Is the dispenser recyclable?
Our goal is to offer a durable dispenser that customers can refill as needed. Should the time come when you need to say goodbye, please feel free to add it to your recycling bin. In the event that they are not, please contact us to return the dispenser to us for recycling.
Where are your bags manufactured?
Our present manufacturing process is based in China. Our factory abides by strict quality control guidelines and we have a great team of people that oversee every part of our production and ensure a high level of quality control!
