Works great
Nothing else to say the filter works great. I'm running it on a 30g freshwater tank with an inline co2 diffuser. The current is not too strong and I haven't had any issues. Surprisingly easy to disconnect the hoses for maintenance as well. Only thing I don't like is the intake valve is super long on one end and a bit short on the other. It was designed for a much bigger tank so I can't complain.

yeah i should have bought an eheim canister filter years ago. but i now own 2 of them. this was the second one purchased ('cause i liked the first one so much).. i love the simplicity of it. i've used aqua-clear 70's & 110's for years, which are still great and i still use them on the smaller tanks, cause they break down for easy cleaning. but this canister is as easy as it gets. and it came with lots of media(coarse foam pad, fine foam pad, pre-filter ceramic, bio-ceramic, and a carbon pad) and the quick shut off valves. it also had all the hose you need and a spray bar. It's virtually silent while operating(aquaclears get noisy at times). I love both of my new eheim canister filters and I'll be getting a third! Highly recommended
Didn’t last long
Less than a year and a half after purchase water is leaking and it’s out of warranty so I’m going to go buy something else. It’s for a freshwater 65 gallon tank

Doing wonders for my aquarium!
My only complaint is the same as most: The instructions are virtually nonexistent. All you’re given is a diagram of the machine and then you’re left on your own. Nowhere are you told that you’ll have to cut that one long piece of green tubing, but bring some heavy duty scissors to the assembly area because you will! Fortunately it’s not too complicated to fit together in the end, and there’s a great video tutorial that you can find just by searching. Ever since I plugged it in it it’s been moving water like a beast! My frog tank is crystal clear and it operates silently and with no leaks, so I’m happy with it. :)
Motor failed after less than two months
I have always been a fan of Eheim canister filters and have purchased many over the years. My experience has always been good so when I setup another aquarium, this was my go to filter. However, to my surprise and dismay, the motor died after being in operation for less than two months.
absolutely garbage
I had marineland not canister filter and I didn’t have to change water for two weeks with this one I cannot go for longer then few days! The water becomes literally yellow. No waist/food is picked up by the filter. It does absolutely nothing and it’s a 40 gallon tank. Waist of money :/
Gotta Have An Eheim
When I was in the hobby nearby 30 years ago, Eheim products was SO expensive, you’d have to save for it if you couldn’t afford to get right away. When I finally got one, it worked flawlessly!! 30 years later an Eheim for less than $150. Is absurd!! I’d buy the whole stock for this price!! Great filter, Back then they were selling @ $200 to nearly $450!! Gotta Have An Eheim
I've only had this going for 4 days
I like it so far. I did not use any of the supplies that came with it, but built a kitty litter/Flourish Red gravel container for the inside. I hope it lasts and lasts for years.
good reputation, not user friendly
I bought this for my 75 gallon planted aquarium based on Eheim's reputation for quality. I was replacing a less expensive (but much more user friendly) canister filter that developed a leak that I was unable to fix. A leaking canister filter is the death of a hardwood floor, so reviews stating that the Ehiem was the least leak-prone option was the deciding factor. This filter costs three times what other similar capacity canister filters cost, so my expectations were high. The gasket on the lid is a silicone ring, not a rubber band, so hopefully it will last a long time. On the plus side, the filter is very quiet. On the minus side, there are virtually no instructions for assembling, installing, and starting this thing. The instruction booklet is huge - but it gives a tiny bit of information in many, many, many languages. I ended up watching a bunch of YouTube videos on how to set it up, prime it, and get it running. The hose provided (1 piece, you have to guess how to cut it up to use it to connect all the pieces together) was barely long enough to accommodate my setup (tank on a standard cabinet stand with holes in the back for hoses to run through). The spray wand is only 12" long. How you would think a 12" spray wand would evenly circulate a 48" long aquarium, I have no idea. (The previous filter had a 36" spray wand, which moved water throughout every nook and cranny in my heavily planted tank.) I extended the spray wand a little with a longer piece of the tubing than recommended in the videos, which almost, but not quite, got the spray wand to the center of the tank. The hoses and tubes are all this intense green - they look pretty ugly. Why not black so they disappear? There is no priming pump; you have to go old school and suck on the end of the hose to get it started. Yuck. Fortunately it primed quickly on the first attempt. Overall, this filter seems very overpriced for the features (or lack thereof). It can only redeem itself by keeping my hardwood floor dry.
