It is a great little vacuum cleaner for a fish tank. Last one lasted 8 years.
Cleaning my tank now takes longer because this vacuum, figuratively, sucks. It isn't very effective. Does it suck up fish and snail poop? Yes. Does it suck up most of it? No. I have a 40-gallon tank with four barb fish, a clown pleco, two Columbian ramshorn snails, and about 15 ramshorn snails. After removing the gravel medium from the tank, I bought this vacuum, thinking it would be easier than the classic suction tube hooked up to a hose to empty into a bucket. Well, it's 'easier' but requires more time in the tank because the lack of suction doesn't collect much of the droppings in one dip. Instead, I must empty the catch three times before going in for the final fourth collection. I've gone back to the classic hose and bucket process after installing a catch filter in the middle of the intake to make sure I don't suck up any of the snails.
This device sounded like a good idea. It's from Eheim, right? So I bought it in hopes of reducing my time performing tank maintenance. Unfortunately, it has proven to having an underpowered pump. In addition, fine waste matter that it does pick up flows back out into the tank through the screen creating a cloud of "dust" defeating the purpose of cleaning. I this product has mixed reviews. It may work for some applications. However, I will stick with the bucket and siphon hose.
This is worth every penny. I have a Florida Mud Turtle, 75 gallon tank with no substrate or sand or rocks on the bottom. Before purchasing this I was using nets to clean the bottom of the cage. It took forever. Now it takes me maybe 5 minutes. I would give it 10 stars if I could.
This is super handy to help keep your tank clean in between deep cleaning and water changes
Just received this product and it does not work. Do not purchase this. I am working with Chewy to return. Very disappointing.
