Enalapril is indicated in the management of symptoms associated with hypertension (high blood pressure), heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, kidney disease, and other types of heart diseases.
The most common side effects are decreased appetite, stomach upset, lethargy, and incoordination. Hypotension (low blood pressure) can also occur. Signs of low blood pressure include weakness/collapse, other kidney problems, increased drinking/urination, slowed heart rate, and a weak pulse. Contact your veterinarian if you notice any behaviors or symptoms that seem unusual after beginning Enalapril.
Always tell your veterinarian about medications and supplements your pet is taking before using Enalapril. Interactions are possible when Enalapril is used along with vasodilators or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is using a diuretic medication, such as furosemide, as dosage may need to be altered when it is given with Enalapril.
Enalapril should not be given to pets who are allergic to ACE inhibitors. Pregnant or nursing females should not take Enalapril. This medication should be taken with caution by pets with kidney disease.
This drug is FDA-approved for human use. However, it is common practice for veterinarians to prescribe such drugs for use in dogs and cats.

Enalapril is classified as an ACE inhibitor. This type of medication blocks the enzyme constricts blood vessels in the body. As a result of this medication, blood vessels dilate and relax which lowers blood pressure and increases blood and oxygen delivery to the heart.
Enalapril does not cure heart and kidney disease but it does relieve related symptoms which improves your pet's quality of life.
Results may not be immediate and it can take several weeks to see improvement.
I have found issues with my Vet being out of my dogs meds. Chewy is reliable and now I don't worry I'm on repeat delivery. They were right on it and helped get me all set up with my vet.
I like the convenience of the autoship! Medications arrive on time and I am not worrying about if they will get here. It is easy to change the autoship date if needed! Medicine is the same quality as what I was getting from my vet.
The pills are not the same as prescribed from my vet. The prescribed pill was round and white. These are pink and oval. Not too concerning, as they were probably made by a different company. My dog has been having diarrhea since I started giving these to him (three days ago). I read this is normal as different companies use different fillers for pills, so it could be the different fillers causing this side effect! Just something to be aware of when purchasing these pills they are not the same as the white circle ones. Keep a good eye on your dog after changing his medication.
looked different from the meds my vet gave me but no complaints with outcomes being the same - chewy pharmacy does a good job. i cant and wont recommend this product as it is a prescription medication and only a Vet can practice veterinary medicine - i actually would hope that your fur baby doesnt need it.
The description on the bottle for a 2.5 mg tablet is oval, yellow, 704. The pills in the bottle are oval and stamped 704 but the color is not like any yellow that I've ever seen. These pills are pinkish beige. The entire process for this order has been nothing but aggravation!
My little girl requires prescription Enalapril now and Chewy handled getting the authorization from my vet and shipping the medication in a very timely manner. Going forward I will continue to use Chewy's pharmacy for as many of our pharmacy needs as possible.
My 14 year old Maltese was diagnosed with an enlarged heart in December 2020. We only discovered this when he started coughing uncontrollably one day. The vet put him on Pimobendan, Enalapril, as well as Hydromet tablets to help with his coughing (his enlarged heart was pressing on his airway causing him to hack and cough). I saw immediately that Enalapril helped my dog feel better. He stopped coughing a few minutes after I gave him this medicine which was a miracle since he was struggling so much before. Before this medication, he was lethargic and sleeping a lot. As soon as I gave this to him, he started doing the things he loved again and even had energy to play with his toys which I had not seen him do in months. I was even able to reduce his Hydromet to once a day, which was great since Hydromet made him space out. I gave this medicine to him about an hour after he had his morning snack. After taking Enalapril the vet required our dog to do a blood test to make sure the medication was working as intended. I recommend getting a pill case and setting a daily timer so you remember to give him the correct dose. Our sweet boy lived for a year on this medicine regimen and enjoyed a great last year of his life. His appetite for food and for life did not seem to get too impacted by the medication. Other things that seemed to help him was keeping him warm to reduce stress on his heart, not putting him in stressful situations, giving him a glucosamine/omega supplement, feeding him reduced sodium food, and using treats to distract him and get him to catch his breath (asking him to "sit/stay") if he was in a coughing fit. We write this in hopes that it will help another fur baby in a similar situation, but do always recommend checking with your vet first. On a separate but related note, we are grateful to Chewy for making our lives so much easier with Autoship, extremely fast shipping, resolving any issues right away, and for sending us a beautiful bouquet and touching card after our boy passed. Upon hearing that our dog had passed, they even refunded my recent purchase as I no longer needed it, and told me to donate the items. This is a business done right.
My senior girl (miniature poodle) is on this for Hypertension and it works great. Great price also.
Exactly what I wanted and fast delivery My vet is why it took longer to get
Thank you to the pharmacy for getting our meds to us so timely and packaged so well!
