The most common side effects associated with EQUIOXX (firocoxib) therapy involve the tongue, lips and skin of the mouth and face (erosions and ulcers of the mucosa and skin) and the kidney. Gastrointestinal, kidney and liver problems have also been reported with other NSAIDs.
Pease consult with your veterinarian for any Food and Drug interaction concerns.
Horses should undergo a thorough history and physical examination before initiation of NSAID therapy. Appropriate laboratory tests should be conducted to establish hematological and serum biochemical baseline data before and periodically during administration of any NSAID. Firocoxib
EQUIOXX (firocoxib) Oral Paste or EQUIOXX Tablets can be used at a dosage of 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) body weight for up to 14 days of treatment. EQUIOXX Oral Paste: Each marking on the syringe will treat 250 lbs of body weight, and each notch corresponds to approximately a 50 lb weight increment. To deliver the correct dose, round the horses body weight up to the nearest 50 lb increment (if the body weight is an exact 50 lb increment, do not round up). 1) While holding plunger, turn the knurled ring on the plunger to the left and slide the knurled ring along the plunger shaft so that the side nearest the barrel is at the appropriate 50 lb weight notch, aligning the arrow on the plunger with the notch on the ring. 2) Lock the ring in place by making turns to the right. Ensure it is locked (it should no longer slide) EQUIOXX Tablets: The recommended dosage of EQUIOXX Tablets is one 57 mg tablet, for oral administration in horses weighing 800-1300 lbs, once daily for up to 14 days. The overall duration of treatment with any firocoxib formulation in horses, including EQUIOXX Oral Paste or Tablets will be dependent on the response observed, but should not exceed 14 days. EQUIOXX may be given with or without food. Please see package insert for additional information.

NSAID stands for Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug. NSAIDs are primarily used to treat inflammation and mild to moderate pain.
EQUIOXX is the first non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the coxib class used to control pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in horses that has been approved for use in the U.S. As a coxib class NSAID, EQUIOXX targets COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2), which helps generate chemicals called prostaglandins that are responsible for pain and inflammation, while sparing COX-1 (cyclooxygenase-1), which helps maintain normal bodily functions such as blood flow to the kidneys and gastric mucosal protection.
Most NSAIDs currently approved for use in horses inhibit both COX-1 and COX-2. Firocoxib, the active ingredient in EQUIOXX Brand Products is a highly selective inhibitor of COX-2.
Consult your veterinarian if your horse receives more than the prescribed amount of EQUIOXX.
I’ve been giving equioxx to my 28 year old off the track thoroughbred for about 3 years now. I believe he’s definitely less sore than he was before he started taking it. Its expensive, but its been the most effective treatment for his pain management that I’ve used.
stuff does work but why only give for 14 days Wish I could take it Pricey but does make a horse feel better
My horse is 15 going on 16 and she has moderate arthritis so our vet recommended this , it has helped her SO much her limping and refusal to work is almost gone.I had thought about retirement for my horse because I thought there was no other option with how much she didn’t want to work but then I got this and now we go on rides every week.
I already had an RX on file with my vet but they are less expensive from Chewy so I ordered them from here and chewy did all the work contacting my vet (to confirm RX) and within a day or 2 they were shipped out to us!
My horse, Cowboy is 22 and has signs of arthritis. He has been on Equioxx for three weeks. He is moving so much better. His attitude is better also, happy again. He was getting one tablet a day. I just changed to every other day, per my vets advice. So far so good.
Thank you came fast!! Your all so great!! Thank you again!!
I have an older horse. His arthritis gives him a lot of pain. My vet prescribed equioxx which he will have to take the rest of his life. Chewy has a great price on this prescription.
Recommended by our vet, a pill a day for our horse and 2 ponies helps combat arthritis in aging equines. Pop in grain and good to go.
These got my old arthritic boy running and bucking moves much better
It took me too long to find a medication that Dakota would take... He refused to take bute no matter how I tried to put it in his food... He would just walk away from his grain and not eat all day... I was told about Equioxx and asked the Vet about the product while he was here for Dakota's yearly check up... He had not heard about it, but would check on it for me... He approved it and Dakota is doing much better... If you have a fussy horse and pain meds are hard to give try this...
