This is much smaller than I realized, my dog is a great Pyrenees German Shepard mix and he could barley fit his nose in the bowl to drink. Defiantly read all about this product because when it says it is made for dogs it means little ones that are cat size.
Not so thrilled
I ordered different waterers because I was going on a trip, and I wanted one to leave at home with my two big boys (cats), and take one on the trip with my dog (lab) and the two adventure kittens. This waterer works in size for all Of the fur babies. The mouth of the reservoir bottle is big enough to get a bottle brush in there to clean. The plastic bottle isn’t ideal for my cat with kitty acne though. I ordered some filters, but they don’t quite work (the other petmate waterer that this is similar to actually has a place to put the filter and secure it with a strap, this is just a lid with a hole, but that bowl is plastic). The lid has a hole in it, and no way to plug the hole to take this on our trip when it is full. This is also annoying because it is difficult to get the reservoir onto the base without making a big mess. It does securely fit onto the base, but is a little hard to get off (which is fine when it’s empty). It seems pretty sturdy and has no wobble. The bowl gets pretty full though, and sloshes over sometimes—it is impossible to move if it has water in it. Since I couldn’t take it on our trip, it stayed home. The reservoir lasted for 8 days, and there was only water in the the bowl when I got home (the cats were getting other water too though). My biggest complaint with this is that the bowl gets super yucky before the reservoir is used up. I’ve had to wash it everyday since I’ve been back, and haven’t been able to preserve what remains in the reservoir without what’s in the bowl backwashing—even with 4 cats and a dog, the reservoir is still about half full before I have to wash it again. The bowl is also hard to clean and rinse because the top and bottom are welded together and there are some crevices. It’s not great, and I think it’s easier to just use the water bowls we had already been using. A waterer seemed like a good idea, but it ended up just being a hassle.
We recently purchased this pet waterer since we travel from time to time. It works just fine for our two cats. It will make it easy for us when we leave town and have neighbors come by to check on things. It doesn't have to be refilled as often. We did, however, have to modify the circumference of the ring on the plastic bottle since the first time we set it up we couldn't remove the bottle easily from the stainless steel.
Stainless steel bowl rusting
This item is rusting after only 2 weeks of use.not happy with it.
SS Gravity Water Feeder
Great Idea! Much better than the plastic type. Keeps water cold all day with my air condition on.
Okay but could be better
This functions as you'd expect and ruggedly built. But as other reviews have already noted, it is tough to clean under the metal saddle for the bottle, it is not removable (would've been easy and nice...), and some metal edges to contend with if you try, for added zest. It does what it is supposed to do, and if you change the water and rinse it frequently, that is don't wait for the huge water bottle to empty before cleaning, it may be fine, but if you feel slime / mold, clean it no matter how tough it is to do so. Okay for cats and small dogs.
Smaller than it looks
Smaller than it looks in the picture, it’s better for a smaller dog
Doesn't work for me
I like the stainless steel bowl and that is about it. The large bottle is very hard to handle but they are all the same. A design with indentation to better hold it would be great. The bottle does not fit well in the base. The water bowl is small and OK for one cat or one at a time. I was going to order two more as I have many cats in different locations but this one not worthwhile. I will go back to one with a plastic bowl, much less expensive.
To small for medium breeds
It claims to be for small to medium, definitely not for anything over 20lbs. My aussie is 40lbs and has a hard time drinking from it. The bowl barely fills with water. It gets about 1/4 inch deep, unless I pull up on jug to create an air gap for the water to flow through, even then it only gets about 1/2 an inch deep. The bowl itself definitely isn't wide enough for anything bigger than a JRT or other Terrier under 2lbs. I wish I had seen it in person before buying it because I wouldn't have gotten it.
Defective or badly made
The water holder part goes too deep into bottom and gets stuck and will not come out - it also makes the water shallow for our medium sized dog to drink from. A real disappointment as liked the Stainless steel bowl over others that are plastic. A real disapointment... Should of called earlier and returned, but, did not! Bob
