FAQ

Can Evanger's products help with urinary tract infections?

Yes. Struvite crystals, rock - like accretions that scrape sensitive tissues in the urinary tract, are a major cause of inflammation and infection in dogs and cats. The formation of struvite crystals is possible when urine is too alkaline. In meat, we are provided with an acidifier that is natural and promotes overall good health in dogs and cats. So increasing the amount of high quality meat consumed can acidify the urine and help prevent the formation of struvite crystals. Evanger’s offers many canned products whose sole ingredient is USDA meat. Choose from among the 8 Grain Free Game Meats, , Hunk of Beef, 100% Organic Chicken, as well as many others. These products are excellent supplements or treats for dogs and cats. For balanced meals, which contain vitamins and minerals, try our Chicken Dinner and Beef Dinner for dogs; USDA certified Organic Braised Chicken Dinner, Organic Turkey with Butternut Squash, and Holistic Pheasant Dinner for cats. Of course, any dog or cat with urinary tract problems should be under the care of a veterinarian.

Can I feed dog food to my cats and cat food to my dogs?

Any Evanger’s food that is pure meat, such as the Grain Free Game Meats, Hunk of Beef, and Wild Salmon, can be fed to both cats and dogs as snacks, treats, or mixed with Evanger’s dry food, snacks, or treats. However, foods that include vitamins and minerals to make a complete balanced diet are formulated specifically for a dog or cat and should be fed to the indicated species.Knowing the different dietary needs of dogs and cats is very important because pet owners that allow a dog to eat cat food or a cat to eat dog food could end up with a very sick pet….or worse. Illnesses do not usually happen if only a few meals are shared, but will happen if it continues on a regular basis. Incidentally, dogs are omnivores like people; they eat both meat and vegetables. Cats are obligate carnivores; they eat mostly meat. Cats have a higher protein and fat requirement than dogs. Dogs that eat cat food could end up with liver, kidney and/or pancreatic problems because cat foods are too high in protein and fat for dogs to properly metabolize. Cats that eat dog foods could end up blind or with a serious heart condition called dilated cardiomyopathy because cats have a dietary need for taurine. Dogs naturally make the amino acid taurine, while cats must have it supplied in their diets; all Evanger’s cat foods contain taurine.Cats also require a different form of Vitamin A. Dogs, like people, naturally manufacture Vitamin A, if Beta - carotene is supplied in the diet. Last but not least, cats require arachidonic acid, an essential fatty acids for cats. Dogs can manufacture Arachodonic Acid from Omega 3 fatty acids. Both dogs and cats require linoleic (Omega 6) and linolenic (Omega 3) fatty acids.

Why are there bones in Hand - Packed Chicken dinners?

Evanger’s special slow - cook, pressure - cook process softens the bones so they are splinter - free and easily digestible. Feel free to squeeze a bone in Whole Chicken Thighs or Roasted Chicken Drummette Dinner, you’ll see that the bone collapses instead of splintering, providing the ideal meal for your dog - safe, nutritious, and delicious. Bones add flavor and texture, and are great natural sources of crucial nutrients like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and iron.

Can I feed Evanger's products to my diabetic dog or cat?

Yes… Diabetic dogs and cats need to reduce carbohydrate intake while maintaining a balanced diet. Evanger’s canned diets contain so much meat (exception: Vegetarian Dinner and 100% Sweet Potato), that they can often be incorporated into the diet of diabetic dogs and cats with healthy kidneys. Diabetic dogs and cats should eat more fowl than red meat. Gold Line Chicken Dinner and Beef Dinner offer dogs a balanced meal with no added carbohydrates. Similarly, Hand Packed Whole Mackerel with Gravy for cats is a delicious low - carb meal. The 8 Grain Free Game Meats and Hunk of Beef and Wild Salmon are nutrient-rich, tasty supplements or treats for diabetic dogs and cats. Please remember that diabetes is a serious medical condition that requires veterinary care. Pets being treated with insulin will require blood checks and possible insulin adjustment when changes are made to the diet.

  • My bengals favorite

    By on

My male bengal has never been a picky eater and usually eats all that is set in front of him. However, with this one, he can't wait for me to scoop it all into the bowl and digs in right away! It is a lot more liquidy than a pate but he doesn't seem to mind!

I love the ingredients. My cats, all of them, can't get enough of this. Great paté texture. It has the right balance of solid and liquid texture.

I love Evangers cat food and so does my cat. I have researched a lot of foods and this is one of the best for nutrition (fat/carbs/protein/moisture content). Very happy with this healthy food!

  • Sadly my cats would not eat this product

    By on

By no means do I wish to imply the product is not good, but simply my cats refused to eat it. I tried mixing in some dry cat food and even treats, but they still did not go for it. The product itself looks very high quality so I was sad to see they did not respond.

  • Looks Good to ME. :)

My cats are not fond of this food. I tried. I am using it up by mixing it into other food. My cats are not going to make me give this brand fewer stars, because my cats like to periodically not like a food so I can watch dollars go down the drain. I love my cats. They are fun. They are finicky. They are ... cats! This food looks great, smells great, is nice and pureed so it looks easy to lick at and swallow down. And it's organic, so it is way healthier than many foods. If I were you, I would give it a try if you feel so inclined. If I were me, prior to already having given it a try, I would give it a try. Hey, yeah, I, um, already DID that. But, well, my cats. Okay, you know you love them. So ... go pet them, now. And always feed them well. :) … more

  • My cats don't like Evanger's foods

    By on

The ingredients in these foods sound very good, and because of that I have bought different kinds of Evanger's foods. Over time, my 3 cats learned to eat the salmon (although it was quite watery--no thickener used). But this food and the others I have tried always end up as dog food. My 3 dogs, on the other hand, love it.

Packaging: it's strong can with a pull back tab which takes a bit of pulling as it is not a flimsy can lid to open That was the first observation. The second was seeing the food although it says chicken the food is a dark brown not whites as we are used to seeing. The food has a wet pate look and is very soft in consistency. When I place the food in their bowls they all three are the food with no hesitation. I have three adopted cats all are 9 months old. It was important to find an good organic food for them. I also feed the some Orijen chicken (dry food) in between morn and evening feedings with plenty of high quality filtered water. I was feeding my cats wellness complete prior to trying Evangers b/c I wanted organic food and one that was good for all stages. I split the 5.5 oz can between the three cats but it's still a little too much for them to eat all of it at once. They did fine on 3.2 oz cans. So this is definetly bigger. I take 2 oz set aside and cover for a later feeding. So far so good. I would recommend this product. Happy cats equals a happy Mom! … more
