Diffusers should be placed where the cat spends the most time. If you are considering this product for a cat peeing outside the box, you can also place the diffuser in the room where the cat is urine spraying most often.
FELIWAY® Diffuser should be used for at least 30 days. Most behaviors will show improvement within 7 days, including peeing outside the box and scratching furniture. Depending on the behavior, you may need to continue using the FELIWAY® diffuser longer than 30 days.
When choosing a plug for the FELIWAY® diffuser, make sure there is nothing above the outlet that will obstruct the airflow and diffusion of the pheromone. It should not be placed under a cabinet, behind a couch, or near an open window.
Refills will last up to 30 days but some variations may occur depending on air flow and ambient temperature within the room.
One diffuser will cover up to 700 sq ft in an open floor plan. The diffuser will not diffuse pheromone outside of any given room though. Given the size, floor plan, and where your cats spend the most time, you should consider getting more than one diffuser.
Diffuser heads should be replaced every 6 months.
Newly plugged in diffuser units may have a slight odor for the first 24 hours, but it may last up to 72 hours. Pheromone diffusers are made of self-extinguishing plastic and comply with the International Electro-technical commission (IEC), European (EN) and UL required standards.

THIS is the most awesome thing I've ever used! Recently, we introduce TWO new kittens into the house with an older (and testy) 13 yr old Tortie cat. This has helped so much - that the tortie (Josie) can NOW be in the same room with the 2 other cats without hissing and growling. ALSO helped with the little kitten (7 months old now) with her 1st heat - keeping her 'calm' until her little girl surgery. IF you haven't tried this for stressed/anxious cats - do it!!
I bought this product at the recommendation of the vet to soothe my kitten who got into the habit of attacking/biting. He was also having some issues using the litter box. Honestly we have not really noticed any difference. He still has some behavioral issues and his use of the litter box is hit or miss. We keep the diffuser in his bedroom (near his litter box) where he spends the most time. I wish the product was more effective given the cost, but I guess my kitten is just a little different.
I can't comment on how well this works for cats (seems fine, though I didn't notice a big difference in behavior after unplugging it), but it did cause irritation in my nose and throat while it was turned on. Probably to be expected when vaporizing oil in a small apartment, but still - if you're sensitive to cigarette smoke etc., maybe give this a pass.
I had hoped this would quell my cat's antics during the night and it seemed to work for one or two nights but she was right back to scratching wicker furniture after that in addition to tearing through the house.
This was a five star review the first 30 days. I think it was helping my high strung female cat. But when I ordered and used the refill, the original diffuser melted. Plugged it in with the refill and immediately smelled burnt plastic so now I have a full refill and no way to use it.
I have been hoping for years with different cats this product would help. We never needed with our current 2 cats as they get along well. With recent visitors we thought we would give it a try again, as they are fearful of visitors. We followed the directions and noticed no improvement whatsoever with their fear. Maybe only some cats are affected, but after many years and at least 6 different cats, it has not worked.
When we moved into a new rental in a new neighborhood, we left the window open one evening and found a few stray cats starring in and hissing at our male cat through the window screen. After those encounters, he started peeing on ANYTHING that was left on the floor; rugs, bath mats, clothing and even our couch! It was so frustrating until my SIL recommended we try cat pheromones to get him to stop. We bought the starter kit, plugged it in and I swear it worked almost instantly! No smelly puddles at all the first night! We got another 3 months of refills just to make sure he didn't start again and it worked like a charm. Now every time we move to a new rental, we make sure to have a steady supply of Feliway on hand and it has been a life saver!
I tried this at my daughter's recommendation whose friend is in Vet Nursing school. She says the clinic where she works swears by it. Given the odd and neurotic behavior my cat had been displaying recently, I figured it would be worth a try even if it didn't work. Not only did I receive this incredibly quickly from when I ordered it, within hours of plugging it in, I swear my cat was different. I figured at first that this must be in my head. Maybe I wanted it to work so it did. My husband and I gave it a few more days, and I can honestly say that the pacing, screaming/crying, and general agitation that my poor guy displayed almost disappeared completely. Our cat is 14 years old and still quite spunky. He's always had an attitude and a ton of sass. That's part of his charm. The sass is still very present. The unhappiness and agitated behaviors are not. I honestly wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it myself. I would definitely recommend this to product to anyone with a cat that's displaying behaviors that make you think he/she is unhappy, agitated, nervous, etc.
My vet recommended this product when she heard that I was adopting a new cat into my home with my Cocker Spaniel. Sure enough, this previously skittish and shy kitty with no previous dog exposure turned in to a calm, confident cat in a matter of a couple of days in spite of my dog's curiosity about the new feline (my dog has had cat's in the home previously). I credit Feliway with keeping the situation calm and allowing my cat to blossom. As a side note, my vet actually uses this product in the exam rooms in her practice - for obvious reasons. It works!
My cat has been licking her fur off for about a year due to separation anxiety. I have tried many remedies, including this one, and after a couple weeks, I see no improvement. I will give it 30 days to see if it helps. I have friends who say it helps their cats but unfortunately, no impact on mine so far.
