Is there a difference between this and the normal feliway? Does it work for multiple cats?
Answer by ChewyNov 01, 2021
FELIWAY Optimum can reduce scratching, urine spraying, tension and conflicts between cats, fears, and reactions to changes. It is designed for use with single cats or in a multi-cat household.

What is the difference between the optimum and the multi cat and classic?
Answer by ChewyNov 13, 2021
Feliway Optimum provides a message of enhanced serenity to cats. This holistic message helps all cats feel more comfortable and secure in their home by providing reassurance as well as harmony between cats living together. Feliway Classic provides “happy messages” to cats and makes them feel comfortable and secure at home. Feliway MultiCat provides “harmony messages” to cats to help restore harmony between cats living together.

So the diffuser itself is different for the Optimum than the Original and Multicat? How and why?
Answer by ChewyJan 11, 2022
The diffusers were recently updated to include a light. If your diffuser's warming plate (plate covered by the slats) is beige, the diffuser will not have a light. If your diffuser has a black warming plate and a silver ring around the opening for the wick, the diffuser will have a light. The refill instructions do not indicate which diffuser will have a light. As outlined above, depending on your diffuser style there may or may not be a light. The refill will not add a light to your current diffuser if not equipped with one. Diffusers should be replaced every 6 months or 6 refills, whichever comes first.

Just curious — why does the diffuser only last 6 months
Answer by ChewyMar 26, 2022
The reason for replacing the diffuser is the effects of heat on the plastic shell. The plastic is a special self-extinguishing composition and becomes brittle and brown with time. There is noticeable “erosion” of the fins especially behind the heating plate. For optimum performance, 6 months or 6 refills should be followed.

No bird friendly

We bought this when bringing in a new pet to the home in hopes to relieve some tension between new cat and existing resident cat. I’m not sure if it would work, I have friends who swear by them, but after barely 1 day we pulled it out. Scent is VERY strong, permeating through the house, so it’s working, but it was noticeable to us. We looked it up and it can cause harm to birds so we never used it again. We also have an African grey parrot, so while harmony between the cats was the goal, we’d love to keep ALL of our girls alive and happy. Noting for anyone else with this pet dynamic, not a safe solution.

May have worked too well...

Bought this to try and calm down a skittish cat that ive had to take to the vets for eye issues. The vet recommended i try it. I had tried the old Feliway a few years ago on another very skittish cat with no improvement. I thought maybe the new Optimum version might work better. First off, i immediately smelled something after plugging it in. It wasnt an overpowering odor but shortly thereafter, i felt lightheaded. I gave it a week to see if there was any improvement for me or the cat. Still had light headedness after the week and enough was enough. As for my cat, he was much more lethargic and almost no appetite. He hadnt touched his food bowl for a few days at the end and i pulled the plug. If your sensitive to candles, potpourri or other fragrant odors, then this may not be for you. I have a smallish Townhome and plugged it in near where the cat sleeps and hangs out. This also happens to be my living room where i hang out the most. Im passing it along to my girlfriend to see if it might help with her 2 male cats marking their territory.

Feliway enhanced calming diffuser

Suggested by my vet tech to use this to calm hissing aggression from my cat toward a new adult cat family member. Positioned the diffuser in the central area of the house as directed from package instruction. It did state that it would take time to take effect. The hissing aggression has not escalated but there has been no calming affect. I am still hopeful as they haven't harmed eachother and I invested much money in the product and its refill

Umm

It didn’t seem to work or I just need to buy many more for each room. There was no difference in both my cats especially my scaredy cat who easily scared if your just walking around the house. So I need to win the lottery to be able to buy 4 more. My disability doesn’t leave much behind when my bills are paid.

Seems to be working

I originally wrote a review a few days after plugging them in. My review said it wasn't working with my aggressive male (neutered) cat that picks on the other cats. I've had Feliway for 53 days and it seems to have calmed him down but now one of the females has become aggressive. I don't know what the heck is going on over here! I keep one in my room and the other in the guest room which are the two rooms they love to hang out in the most. Overall though I believe the Feliway has calmed the cats down.

Excellent Product

We have 5 cats with 5 personalities which makes for interesting interactions. Feliway calming & Multicat diffusers are amazing. All of my cats are calmer, less stressed, more engaging & playful. I have two diffusers, one calming & one Multicat & plugged them in about two weeks ago. Highly recommended.

Not Working

I purchased this to help with the introduction of my new 2 year old cat to my resident 16 year old cat. It didn’t have any calming effect on either of them. I was very disappointed and the money I spent on it could have gone towards so many other necessities.

Actual miracle worker

Two of my three cats have been fighting for 6 months. I plugged in two of these in our 900 sq ft apt and the fighting literally stopped that day. They aren't cuddling with each other but they can live together in peace now. We all can live in peace now.

Plug-in leaked, toxic to cats if ingested

This plugin started leaking onto the floor, which is a major problem since it’s toxic if ingested by cats. I’ve had good experiences with the regular feliway plug-in and refills, and I have no idea why this Optimum design failed. Now we’re watching our cats for a couple days to make sure we don’t need an emergency vet visit. If you buy this product, please keep an eye on it to make sure it isn’t leaking.

Don’t waste your money

I have a senior cat (13 y/o) that is diabetic and developing cataracts. We moved about 5 months ago. He’s always been a relaxed cat, but since we’ve moved he howls constantly (he was diagnosed before moving). I’ve put up nightlights (my house is completely lit at night), turn on bird videos when we go to bed, leave my bedroom door open so he can sleep with me if he wants, and he still howls. He sees the vet regularly so we know nothing medically is causing this. I was desperate so his vet suggested we try a Feliway. It did absolutely nothing but leave an oily film on the wall above the outlet that it was plugged into. My advice, don’t waste your money.
