is there a monthly fee
Answer by ChewyNov 19, 2020
A subscription gives you access to the full capabilities of your dog's Fi collar - allowing for remote access to your dog's location and activity. The cost of the subscription covers the GPS/LTE connection to your dog's Fi collar. Without a subscription, the Fi collar will still function - but if your dog wanders outside the range of your smartphone, base or WiFi, they will not be able to locate your pup. It is highly recommend purchasing a subscription if you’re worried about your dog running off.

Is this collar compatible with a Verizon phone?
Answer by ChewyJan 28, 2021
The collar will act as it's own cellular device on the AT&T LTE-M network to transmit the collar's GPS location to the servers and your app. The mobile carrier you use doesn't matter - your smartphone can be on any cellular network to use Fi.

What is battery life
Answer by ChewyNov 15, 2020
Fi Series 2 Collar has 4 operating modes. How long your dog's Fi collar battery lasts depends on which operating mode is most active. Please refer to the photo below for more in-depth details:

Is there a free trial period for the subscription to make sure the coverage is good in our area?
Answer by ChewyApr 15, 2021
GPS/LTE subscriptions include a free 30-day trial. Prior to purchase, we recommend first checking to make sure there is AT&T LTE-M coverage around your home or in any other area where your dog may spend time.

Too Many Issues

We've had the Fi Collar for about a year now and it was fine at first... and then it wasn't. It started notifying us that Mando had left home when we was clearly right in front of us. Like every 10 minutes. We reached out to support which was fine, and they told us it was because the metal piece had broken off, so they sent us a new unit. That fixed this issue for a time. Then it came back and they told us it's because our house is too big. So they sent us a second dock. Reset the unit again, have a second dock and the annoying alerts finally went away. But then my mom (who's not set up as a "walker") took Mando for a walk with her pup. Did it notify us that Mando had left home? Nope. Now the second units cover is popping off. If that piece of metal is that important you'd think it would be more than glued on. It also sucks that you have to use dedicated fi collars. We will be letting our subscription expire.

Great for our Houdini

Our FI collar has paid for itself over and over. Our husky is a Houdini so we got this gps tracking collar. It works really great in our area. A HELPFUL HINT —- use the collar only as a gps unit DO NOT attach a leash to this collar you will be disappointed, especially if you have a large dog. It is naturally a weaker collar because of the GPS access point, which they kindly made removable so you can wash your collars or switch out the bands. We always have another collar on our dog that we use for attaching his leash to. I do not use this as a way to keep track of my dog off leash, it is only used for when he escapes from our home area. It usually updates within seconds and he can cover a lot of ground in seconds.

Pretty good

i have gotten this collar for all 2 of my dogs so even with it’s issues i still love it. now that being said, if you go somewhere with no service, the collar won’t work. it also uses bluetooth with your phone while on hikes and such (away from base and wifi) so the paths aren’t always entirely accurate if a dog is off leash. the lost dog mode is good though and i set my home base a little broader than our property because just like Find my iPhone it’s sometimes off by a house or two or across the street. because i’ve gotten a few false notifications i always check the app before rushing home and every time it ha refreshed showing the dogs are still at home. it’s great for a neighborhood dog but not so great for an off grid dog. also on the Fi website they’re almost always running $70 off deals. as for the customer service, i have had great experiences and they’ve followed up and checked on the issues multiple times after it was resolved to be sure it wasn’t happening again.

Do not buy.

Completely unreliable product. You will get a ton of false readings. Too many times to count, I was sent alerts that my dog escaped and was two or three streets away, when he was actually sitting on our deck or inside the house. Customer services hits you with a million technological reasons why their product isn’t working. They mostly try to blame it on some error that you must be making. False advertising in my book.

Not worth the money

I bought the first one and I did ask several questions before my purchase because I go backpacking where there is no cell service so I ask if it would still track my dog and I was told yes by the fi company as long as I did the monthly subscription so I did the first time I took her it didn't work so when I called them they said it was a glitch with the app and it was fixed so I tried again still didn't work so I took it off her bc I'm not paying $100.00 a year to track my dog by my house I bought one of those tile things put it on her collar and it does the se thing for free so disappointed I bought mine from fi not chewy I love chewy

Don’t expect a trial period

I bought one for my sister’s dog. A couple of weeks later she told me she had another solution so I went to return it, unused. This was about five weeks after purchase. The Fi people told me that I was not able to return it because they have a four week return policy. They are getting every single dollar they can, no matter the outcome.

Better than nothing....

I decided to take off one day looking for my Mom after she drove out of the driveway because I was frightened by the neighbors shooting guns. Luckily for me, Mom wasn't gone long and was able to track me in the snow for awhile... then had to use Facebooks posts and LOTS of friends to find me. Thought this would work.... and it does.... for awhile.... FAIRLY accurate in location....better on the road than around my home on WiFi. Go Figure! Biggest issue is when it doesn't work.... THEN Mom has to deal with customer service. No voice. Been on hold on chat for 1.5 hours waiting for agent. Got one email contact who asked a question..... responded and been over two hours waiting for a response. So.... better than the price point.

We bought this for our puppy so that while we were out of town and he was staying with in laws, it would be easier for them to locate him if he wiggled out of the fence on their expansive property. Additionally, we wanted to use it for weekend trips to the lake where we leave him on the enclosed porch (since he has found ways to get out of that too). Every time we’ve been alerted that he has left the property he was not away from the property. Even if we had him in his kennel it would sometimes alert us that he got out and left the property, when he had not. We’ve rushed home from places when it was not necessary due to these notifications. This device seems more concerned with building its online community than tracking the dog properly, and we are not that interested in our dog’s step count or the number of hours they are sleeping. An added annoyance is that when we tried to buy an updated collar since the puppy grew, they would not let us make the purchase using Apple Pay, but forced us to login to their system, which was very inconvenient at the time.

It’s just decoration

This collar is just decoration. The app tracks YOUR PHONE, not the collar. I’ve used it on hikes with my dogs off leash and the app shows my path (which stayed on the trail) rather than my dogs’, which included romps across a river and field. If you have a dog walker they have to add the app to their phone, because it tracks that and not the collar. I turned on lost mode once while on a hike and it appeared to do nothing.

unit broke, dog ran off, Fi won't replace it

I'm apparently 2 months out of my 1 year warranty, my dog (40# of catahoula) ran off her line into the woods after a deer and snapped the collar at the unit, so she broke the unit and the clips. Fi won't replace, won't discount, nothing, I can't see the point of getting another one, made very cheaply.
