When introducing a new food, begin with a mixture of "old and new" food, gradually increasing the amount of new food over a 7-10 day period. This will prevent digestive upset as well as allow your pet to adjust to the new food. Adjust portion for proper weight maintenance and when feeding addtional pets. Discard any uneaten food and clean dish before each feeding.

My guinea pigs love a lot of Kaytee products, so I thought we'd try this. I was sold because it seems to be good quality - no molasses, fillers, or artificial preservatives, and timothy hay is the first ingredient! The pellets are larger than most food we've tried - I wasn't sure how they'd react to that, but my guys don't seem to mind at all. They crunch them just fine, which is probably better for their teeth anyway! The larger pellets seem to have a lot less dust/crumbs in the bag too. We started mixing them with their current food and they're currently eating a bit of each right now, - though they also seem to enjoy these pellets as 'treats' when out for playtime, so I think making the switch will be easy. Great food at a great price point!
These looked really promising! Awesome claims about healthy ingredients with no fillers like molasses and such. The packaging is beautiful! However, I was shocked to see alfalfa is the second ingredient. All reputable sources say that adult, full-grown guinea pigs (except nursing mothers) should not be fed a diet based on alfalfa. In fact Millie my guinea pigs is on a low calcium diet and is not allowed by her vet to have any alfalfa at all. Very disappointed.
I have two sets of piggy brothers, 1.5 year olds and 6 year olds. The younger pair are picky - they don't like a lot of new foods. But all four LOVE Field Forest piggy food. Pieces are a little bigger, not like pellets but a little more like treats. They smell like real, delicious food - like something a person would eat, which makes me think they're fresh and made of good things. And the pigs love it. I mix it in with their pellets and they eat these all first and right away. They can't get enough! I will be buying these for all of them forever now.
I love how the Field and Forest has such natural ingredients for my Guinea Pig. At first switching over my baby wasn’t quite sure of the new feed. I continued to add it to its food slowly and eventually did the transition over. I love that the first ingredient is Timothy Hay, this makes me feel that this food will keep my baby much more healthy and satisfied. You can see in my pictures the texture of the food. It all looks so natural. I’m very satisfied with this new food for my Guinea.
*APPROVED*. Our lil Dumpling has put their stamp on this and loves this food (he can be picky)- I love the fact that the pellets are actually larger than normal and there was NO DUST IN THE BAG! So many brands seem to add in extra "goodies" like seeds, fruit and other things that taste good but can upset their digestive system, I am always on the look out for brands that offer just quality pellets that don't have the treats mixed in. The first ingredient is Timothy Hay and the second is Alfala meal. I add in their Timothy Hay and everyone is happy with plenty to eat and happy tummies.
We've been Kaytee loyalists for several years now and were excited to try Field+Forest. Blinka loves to eat them when mixed into her other pellets in her enclosure but loves them on their own too as a cuddle or floor time snack! Blinka is an incredibly picky eater most of the time, so it was a pleasant surprise when she instantly took to eating these. Definitely the best ingredients I've ever seen in guinea pig food!
The Field and Forrest Guinea Pig food by Kaytee is my first choice when it comes to feeding my little pets. They absolutely love the smell and taste of the food. I love the fact that it’s made with wholesome ingredients like premium, long, strand, Timothy-hay, vegetables, and herbs. NO added fillers or artificial preservatives.
Kaytee Field+Forest Guinea Pig Food offers more than just great taste; it provides essential nutrition to support the overall health and well-being of our furry friends. The inclusion of timothy hay ensures a high-fiber content, promoting proper digestion and dental health. The addition of fruits and vegetables provides valuable vitamins and minerals, contributing to a balanced diet.
I must admit that this is by far the boujee-ist food Poppy has eaten! The first ingredient is Timothy Hay, which had me sold. I also really love that there are no artificial preservatives. The pellets are a really nice size so they don't get crumbled in the bag. I don't think that we'll ever go back to her previous food! Poppy can't get enough as you can see!
I liked that the first ingredient was Timothy Hay and that the pieces were larger than normal = less likely to get knocked over and lost in the shuffle of my two piggies. However, my usual “trash compactors” who eat everything were very suspicious. I added these into their normal pellets and the Guinea pigs picked out the usual pellets and left these. They munched on a few but never if these pieces were the only choice. We’re going to keep trying.
