Good but has short battery life

    By Kim25 on Jul 26, 2021

I use the Findster Duo when hiking with my Golden. For others reading the reviews, I wrapped some cloth medical tape around the screw/band that holds the tracker to the collar and I have never had it come off. I hike with my phone anyway, so keeping the module in my backpack or pocket isn't that big I use the Findster Duo when hiking with my Golden. For others reading the reviews, I wrapped some cloth medical tape around the screw/band that holds the tracker to the collar and I have never had it come off. I hike with my phone anyway, so keeping the module in my backpack or pocket isn't that big of a deal like other reviews make it seem like. Bottom line is if you don't want to pay for subscription, this tracker is a great choice. When my dog is off leash, I can see what direction he went. In heavier woods the tracker reporting back to my phone is a little delayed but other paid subscription trackers have a 1-3 minute delay on most of them anyway. My dog is whistle trained for recall but nice to know where he's at if he decides to take off after an animal or runs a head of me on the trail. I only use the tracker when hiking so the battery needs to be charged after a few hikes. If your dog is wearing it daily, you will be charging it a lot sooner. … more

    VERY Short Range

    By on

I bought this device directly from Findster. I was really hoping this would work since you don't need cell service and we take remote vacations with our dogs. Unfortunately, the device gets nowhere close to the two mile range that's claimed. If there are any woods and the dog goes off, you'll be lucky to get 1/4 mile range. The device loses connection and you lose tracking of the dog. I contacted their customer service several times and none of the updates helped this issue. I cannot recommend this to work as advertised...was really hoping it would work.

    Avoid at all costs!

Horrible customer service. Can never reach a real person. Advertise as ok for cats. It is huge. Only use on a medium to large size dog.

    So disappointed

    By on

Was really hoping this would work since I hike a lot with my Golden off leash on our wooded property that doesn't get cell service. It was constantly loosing track of him when he was still within eyesight. Seems extremely inaccurate and hit or miss. Was really hoping for better.

    We like the devices

    By on

We live in a heavily wooded area. We got these to find any lost dogs. Turn the device on it works correctly. Miss a step it does not work so good. What does under those conditions. Even with lots of trees. Cell phone and Gaurdian in hand we can walk into the woods and find the dog fairly quickly. The bad is how it is attached. I made a cloth sleeve that has elastic at both ends. We put the GPS unit on the collar attachment that is firmly on the collar with a zip tie not what it was sent with.. I pull the little tube over the whole device the ends are to small for it to fall out of. No more lost units to look for. I am still experimenting with my tube design. Terrible product...don't buy

    By on

I purchased it and it has a bad module. We have been reaching out to Findster, and they won't replace, but instead keep insisting that it is working. Such an expensive mistake buying this product.

    Doesn't track in forest

    By on

I really was hopeful that this would work for us, but it doesn't. We live in an area without cell service, so we're limited in which pet trackers are options. The reliance on module to module communication seemed like it would solve our problem. Unfortunately, the Findster Duo doesn't. It will track our dog if he is within sight on our walks, but if he's more than about 1/8th to a 14th of a mile away--and we can't see him--the guardian module loses connection with the pet module and we can't track him. We walk in a forested area with some hills, so I wasn't expecting the device to work at the 3 mile level, but I was expecting something more than 1/8th of a mile. It quickly loses connection and it's often slow to update the dogs position when it is connected. A couple smaller issues. First, the support is only by email. The response is usually within 24 hours, but they don't appear to work on the weekends. Not a deal breaker, but a little annoying Second, the device was accurate tracking the path of our walks, but not the distance. For walks around 1 mile it was accurate, but when we'd walk 3-4 miles, the path shown was accurate, but the distance was way off. Not a big deal for us--we only wanted to be able to track our dog if he ran after a deer and was out of sight. But, if you're interested in accurately tracking your pet's activity, I don't think this is the best device. … more
