FAQ

Why do your products appear different at times?

Our products contain natural ingredients without the addition of artificial coloring or binders. As a result, you may note variation in the appearance of our products between batches.

Chicken Fat and Chicken Allergies:

Our bodies and our pet’s bodies react differently with proteins and fats. An allergy is caused by the bodies reaction with the protein of what we’ve come in contact with. Our chicken fat is free of chicken protein and will therefore not cause a reaction for those animals with a chicken allergy.

Do you use GMO ingredients?

No, FirstMate and Kasiks do not contain GMO ingredients.

What is a meal? How does it compare to a fresh meat?

Chicken meal is a concentrated source of chicken protein in which most of the moisture and some of the fat has been removed. Meals such as these provide nearly 4 times more protein than the fresh ingredients.|Weight|Senior/Less Active Per Feeding (cup)|Adult Per Feeding (cup)|Puppy Per Feeding (cup)||---|---|---|---||2 - 5 lbs|1/8 - 1/4|1/8 - 1/4|1/8 - 1/4||5 - 10 lbs|1/8 - 1/4|1/4 - 1/3|1/4 - 1/3||10 - 20 lbs|1/4 - 1/2|1/3 - 2/3|1/3 - 3/4||20 - 30 lbs|1/2 - 3/4|2/3 - 1|3/4 - 1 1/4||30 - 50 lbs|3/4 - 1 1/2|1 - 1 3/4|1 1/4 - 2||50 - 70 lbs|1 1/2 - 2|1 3/4 - 2 1/4|2 - 2 3/4||70 - 90 lbs|2 - 2 1/2|2 1/4 - 3|2 3/4 - 3 1/2||90 - 110 lbs|2 1/2 - 3|3 - 3/4|3 1/2 - 4 1/4||110 - 140 lbs|3 - 4|3 3/4 - 4 1/2|4 1/4 - 5|

  • Cleared the crystals!

    By on

I chose this for my newly adopted rescue dog whose urine tested positive for calcium oxalate dihydrate crystals. Vet prescribed Hill's CD but I didn't like the ingredients in it so searched online for an alternative and found this one. After 4 weeks, my dog's urine is normal! Other details: my dog was very obese and has now lost about 12#. Needs to lose at least 12 more. He is getting walked for about 2 hours every day and probably had little to no exercise in his previous home. Also, my dogs share my (vegetarian) home-cooked leftovers so they're not eating just dog food and nothing else.

As always, Chewy provides outstanding service! I love the 2 day shipping, and no longer having to lug a heavy bag of dog food from the store to my car, and from the car int the house, and love the Autoship. Thanks, Chewy!

  • Only recently tried this food..

So far, so good. My dogs seem to like it, and it seems to agree with them, at least up front. Will have to see how it works out long term. It smells nice and fresh and "sweet" when you open the bag - not at all like dog food smell

  • Dog with allergies

    By on

Love the simple ingredients. Our old man dog is allergic to most grains and peas. Thanks for making a limited ingredient food that is sourced with high quality ingredients!! Beats making meals from scratch.

  • Say good buy to chronic uti

    By on

I have a male bulldogge with skin issues and a female that was on Antibiotics for 2 months and chronic cystitis and frequent blood in her urine after treatment. On the verge of needing whole house carpet replacement. Mixing only 50 % of her feeding and already cleared up the urine issue. The males skin condition could use a bit more folic acid and "No Chicken. Not as happy with "lamb meal" and chicken as ingredients and that is why I am still feeding 50% of another real meat brand. And supplement with raw meat from our local butcher. But otherwise, even at 50%, this really helps with urinary health. Just ensure plenty of water.

  • Good Quality Good Price

    By on

Three dogs, one has a problem with UTI. Bought because it has cranberries in ingredients. Used about half the largest bag. The dogs love it. There was no problem changing over, with gastrointestinal issues. I feed by weight (grams), this is a very dense food, the same weight from previous food is much less pieces. But the weight is the same. Also have seen smaller fecal deposits. This is a very good food made in Canada, from good stuff.

  • Excellent Dog Food

    By on

This food is A+. My male English bulldog aside from being allergic to all grains is allergic to green peas. This is the only food that aside from one other one that doesn't use green peas as a filler. Not only is the kibble beautiful, my dogs love it too!

  • Best food for my multiple allergy dog!

    By on

It took me months to find a food that didn't have an ingredient my girl is allergic to, and this was the one! Chewy makes it so easy with the auto ship, I hardly have to give it a thought.
