Transition Instructions

FAQ

Why do your products appear different at times?

Our products contain natural ingredients without the addition of artificial coloring or binders. As a result, you may note variation in the appearance of our products between batches.

Chicken Fat and Chicken Allergies:

Our bodies and our pet’s bodies react differently with proteins and fats. An allergy is caused by the bodies reaction with the protein of what we’ve come in contact with. Our chicken fat is free of chicken protein and will therefore not cause a reaction for those animals with a chicken allergy.

Do you use GMO ingredients?

No, FirstMate and Kasiks do not contain GMO ingredients.

What is a meal? How does it compare to a fresh meat?

Chicken meal is a concentrated source of chicken protein in which most of the moisture and some of the fat has been removed. Meals such as these provide nearly 4 times more protein than the fresh ingredients.|Weight|Senior/Less Active Per Feeding (cup)|Adult Per Feeding (cup)|Puppy Per Feeding (cup)||---|---|---|---||2 - 5 lbs|1/8 - 1/4|1/8 - 1/4|1/8 - 1/4||5 - 10 lbs|1/8 - 1/4|1/4 - 1/3|1/4 - 1/3||10 - 20 lbs|1/4 - 1/2|1/3 - 2/3|1/3 - 3/4||20 - 30 lbs|1/2 - 3/4|2/3 - 1|3/4 - 1 1/4||30 - 50 lbs|3/4 - 1 1/2|1 - 1 3/4|1 1/4 - 2||50 - 70 lbs|1 1/2 - 2|1 3/4 - 2 1/4|2 - 2 3/4||70 - 90 lbs|2 - 2 1/2|2 1/4 - 3|2 3/4 - 3 1/2||90 - 110 lbs|2 1/2 - 3|3 - 3/4|3 1/2 - 4 1/4||110 - 140 lbs|3 - 4|3 3/4 - 4 1/2|4 1/4 - 5|

    Way above expectations

By Gala on Nov 16, 2021

I read reviews about the smell, but gave it a chance after 5 years of Royal Canine (guess, with this “shortage” they change the formula) My dogs love the smell, size of kiddies are more appreciated for Americans boxers (teeth shrinks very fast) vs Royal Canine, coats improved after 1 bag, eyes allergy gone I ordered more. Hope, logistic from Canada will not push me to FDA rules (better to cook home made)

    My GS likes a lot

By April on Nov 10, 2021

Was difficult to find quality food for my dog but I am glad I found this. My German Shepard likes it and we don’t have any digestive problems when he eats this food. I am also trying to find something else to alternate but so far couldn’t get anything better or equal with this.

    First Mate Saves The Day

By Wein on Jun 11, 2021

My greyhound Marty was having the worst case of collitis as a result of another dog food that I thought we loved. Nope. Wow, foul gas and loose stools that I couldn't improve through conventional means. I moved to a human food diet for a few days to help him through it but needed a kibble to get him on. My friend Yumi recommended the First Mate, as she's been feeding it to her greyhounds for awhile now. SO, it is more expensive than what I had been buying, but you feed him LESS. So its a bigger bag, and lasts longer than what he WAS getting. Plus his stools are firm and he's no longer foul and gassy. Hurray for Marty! Hurray for First Mate!!

    First Mate Dog Food

By PattyCake on Jul 17, 2021

I have been feeding First Mate Australian Lamb & Large Breed Pacific Ocean Fish dog food to my two IPO working German Shepherds for about 5 years & it was recommended by a friend who made and sold raw dog food. They are a great trustworthy company making an exceptional dog food.

    Good Choice

By CJOY on Nov 25, 2020

My dog has been on a bladder stone control food for 5 years. I came to realize, by reading the label that it consists of more grains than I would like to feed my dog. This food was one of the top rated dog foods for this condition, first ingredient, lamb. She loves it and isn’t still hungry after she is fed. I have been keeping an eye on her when she pees and she is having no problems. I’m glad I changed.

    dachshund approved.

    By 4434 on Dec 5, 2020

Our dachshund crew has been on this food for a incredibly long time. They love it. It even has helped with my older dog and his acid reflux. It’s almost dinner time here for the group of dogs so I better get going.

    Good quality food

By Dobby on Sep 21, 2020

It's been difficult to find a limited ingredient food with just the right recipe for our dog. He is allergic to flax, peas, wheat, duck, and wheat. FirstMate has treated him well. He adjusted to the new food without any tummy trouble.

FirstMate Australian Lamb Meal - Grain Free Dry Dog Food

By FormulaChanged on Jun 22, 2020

First, our dog (Daisy - a 10 year old 20 lbs mix: Lhasa-Apso, Bichon Frise & possibly Beagle...) loves the FirstMate kibble. Besides meals, I use it for training rewards/treats too! We added FirstMate Australian Lamb Meal to Daisy's food (she develops urinary stones, had her on Royal Cain SO prescription food for years, but a few months ago Royal Canin changed the formula and she couldn't digest it anymore, throws it up not digested after 2 or 3 hours). So, we switched to an all-natural dog food (Just Food for Dogs a chicken & white rice formula) and add a FirstMate and she is doing great now. She has regular bowel movements and her feces are firm.

    My dog likes

    By Groomer1 on Aug 8, 2020

Very satisfied with this food. It would be perfect if it had a self zip close since it is a premium food. Would like to see smaller chunks. But my dog likes it.
