Serve dry or slightly moistened in a clean bowl. Use this chart as an initial guide and adjust accordingly. Feed twice daily. Always provide fresh clean water.
Pregnant females, increase feed intake beginning week 7 of gestation up to 25%. Lactating females increase feeding up to 50%, feeding a minimum of 3 times per day. Feeding requirements vary depending on breed and litter size. Monitor body condition of pregnant and lactating females and adjust feed accordingly.
When transitioning to our dry food from another brand, we typically recommend a 7-day transition period. Begin by introducing a small amount of FirstMate with the old food on the first day. Gradually increase the amount of the new food, decreasing the amount of the old food over the course of a week until they are eating exclusively FirstMate.
Why do your products appear different at times?
Our products contain natural ingredients without the addition of artificial coloring or binders. As a result, you may note variation in the appearance of our products between batches.
Chicken Fat and Chicken Allergies:
Our bodies and our pet’s bodies react differently with proteins and fats. An allergy is caused by the bodies reaction with the protein of what we’ve come in contact with. Our chicken fat is free of chicken protein and will therefore not cause a reaction for those animals with a chicken allergy.
Do you use GMO ingredients?
No, FirstMate and Kasiks do not contain GMO ingredients.
What is a meal? How does it compare to a fresh meat?
Chicken meal is a concentrated source of chicken protein in which most of the moisture and some of the fat has been removed. Meals such as these provide nearly 4 times more protein than the fresh ingredients.

Impressive story
By Lilysmom on Nov 15, 2018
after a long talk with the MN rep for this brand I was impressed enough to give 3 flavors a try. Slow transition to these foods so I am feeding all 3 flavors as training treats. My dogs love all flavors. Hopefully will transition to using this brand.

Great Food
By Lulu on Aug 9, 2018
I feed this to my small and large bits to all three dogs. I think this is good quality expensive but worth it for our 4 legged kids. I know that they are getting good food when i buy this.

Good for my fussy eater
By Fallon on May 31, 2018
This is the first dry food my dog will eat. The bites are small. He needs a limited ingredient diet for allergies. This recipe is very high in fish and very small in anything else. With it we have cleared up his inflamed colon. The only non prescription food my vet will recommend for him. My son's dog is also on a limited diet and just dove in when he visited with no indigestion form a rapid change of diet. Cant say all dogs can make the change in diet so fast but it did not bother him.

My picky pooch loves it
By DogMom on Apr 20, 2018
I have a senior rescue dog who only has 6 teeth, and he’s picky! This kibble small bites are the perfect size, and he waits by the cupboard at breakfast and dinner time waiting to be fed. He loves it.

Great food
By WillowsDad on Jul 1, 2017
I have always rotated using Orijen, Acana, or Wellness Core but was looking for a good quality kibble with lower phosphorus due to my dog having some elevated kidney level readings on a recent blood test. I now make homemade low phosphorus wet food for her but want to supplement with a small amount of kibble. The prescription KD specific dry dog foods are not good quality so I researched and found this formula is fairly low in phosphorus yet still really good quality. I had my dog tested, then switched to using this to supplement her wet food diet for 1 month and had her re-tested and her phosphorus and other readings are now in the normal range. Other benefits have been much less itching/chewing I have always rotated using Orijen, Acana, or Wellness Core but was looking for a good quality kibble with lower phosphorus due to my dog having some elevated kidney level readings on a recent blood test. Dogs refused to eat this food
By Buddy on Sep 28, 2017
I have 2 dogs. One dog will eat anything and the other is slightly finicky. Both dogs would not eat this food, waste of money for me.

Origen to First Mate
By deed on Aug 20, 2017
used Origen for our two dogs, and on a recommendation tried First Mate. Our dogs love First Mate all flavors but no chicken due to chicken allergy. Service from Chewey the best. Always arrives in 2 days.

Didn't agree with my dogs
By kylie on Jan 19, 2017
I hesitate to give this food a negative review because it might not be the food- it could be my dogs. One of my dogs got more reflux on this food and the other one's skin problem worsened. It seems to be high quality so I would thinkI it could be the quirks of my dogs. My first dog does better on canned and needs pepcid before each meal but I wanted to giver her a bit of dry for more substance but it didn't work out.

My Dog Really Likes it!
By Perriboni on Nov 25, 2016
I didn't know if my small, 12.5 lb., MinPoo/Jack Russell Terrier/Mix would like the Pacific Ocean Meal, but he did. I'm glad the "Small Bites" is available. I would like a smaller size bag though.
