It's a Hard No
We love Fluoxetine for our nut job of a cat -- truly has worked wonders for him and has made all of our lives better. We had been giving him the pills but he was cheeking them. Meaning he acted like he swallowed it and then later we would find it on the counter or floor so we decided to try a liquid. We do 5 mg/day so we figured the liquid would be a small amount. Nope! 5 mg requires the whole syringe (looks like the one in the picture). So quite a lot of liquid and apparently he doesn't like the taste. He gagged, barfed a little, foamed at the mouth, hacked for about 20 minutes and then wouldn't eat his breakfast (which had nothing to do with the Prozac). Never thought I would say this but pilling the cat is way easier and doesn't leave him reeling for a full morning. Not recommended.
Chewy is great, med was a waste
My vet warned me my cat most likely wouldn’t like this even though it was flavored but I was going out of town and wanted it to be easier for the pet sitter. Well the vet was completely right! My cat who is a very laid back cat was retching so hard with this and biting the syringe. The pet sitter didn’t even use it and ended up just pilling him because he hated this liquid so much. Chewy, however, is great. They got it approved and shipped all within a day. They are fast and customer service is amazing. The 30 dollar med however was a complete waste. Used it once and the rest along with the 30 dollars went in the garbage.
Tastes like tuna.....are you serious???
I can't say if this product works or not. My cat was prescribed it by her vet for anxiety / OCD type behavior. Unfortunately, I can't get her to take it. Mixing it with wet food didn't help. Using the syringe to deposit it in the back of her mouth sent her into a panic....etc. She hates the taste of the 'tuna flavor' that was ordered despite the fact that she loves real tuna. Yes she is picky....but when I tasted a small drop of this medication to see how much it actually tasted like the tuna it was supposed to taste like, I was shocked! No tuna taste at all. In fact, it tasted like a mix of chapstick wax and crayons. No wonder my picky little girl wouldn't take the stuff. Maybe your pet won't mind the taste.....or maybe the chicken or beef flavorings are better. I don't know. But, I was disappointed. Now I am back to square 1 trying to figure out how best to help my little girl overcome her anxiety issues.
It is not working
My cat has have an anxiety with another cat chasing after her and avoided going to the litter box. It was like holding her poops and pee for a few days then just let all out on the table or floor. With holding caused a constipation. I tried Amitriptyline before Fluoxetine. Unfortunately both didn’t work. My cat definitely hates Fluoxetine chicken taste and it made her more stressful when it was time to take the medicine.
I have a 13 yo Maine Coon Calico, who, according to the vet, is "wired weird"! She has so many issues and with the pending addition of a new cat we decided to put her on Prozac. What a difference it has made in her ability to cope with life! I wish we had done it years earlier. And the convenience of getting it delivered on a regular basis is such a plus.
Baskets went over very well!
Just got the baskets in the mail today for my buns. Even my older rabbit, who isn’t impressed by much, didn’t want to get out is his basket. He even moved it close to his water bowl so he could drink while he hung out in the basket! I threw in some hay and hid a few treats in there and both were having a great time.
My two buns love sitting in this basket, as well as eating it. It’s pretty sturdy, so it will take your bun a good amount of time to chew through it. And best of all, as they chew it, it has been minimally messy. Definitely a must have :)
I am so relieved to say that this is working really well for my cat. He’s calmer, and he actually lets me sleep at night, which he hadn’t been. He’s also not bothering my other cat as much for playtime (the other one is 10 and not super playful anymore). The only downside is that he won’t eat anything that I put it on. My solution is to squirt it in his mouth every night, and while he doesn’t enjoy it, he also doesn’t run and hide from it, so we’ll call that a win. The only downside is that the tuna flavor smells just awful, and it lingers on your skin even after soap and scrubbing. The chicken flavor doesn’t smell bad to me at all.
This has been amazing!
Our boy has calmed down so much it's like he's a kitten again. He still has his anxiety with strangers, but he hasn't attacked the maintence man in MONTHS. It was a rough start - we'd try to shoot it down his throat and he'd foam and snarl. After continued tries with food, he KNOWS it's med time and is so excited. He sprints to the room we give it to him in before we turn around! He has started to meow kinda weird but we love his little chirp screams
This really helped calm my cats
I have an extremely anxious cat and we put a syringe of this in his wet food... and he is much less tense. It really helps! Thank you!
