The Fluval Edge Pre Filter Sponge is specifically designed for use with the Fluval EDGE power filter. It plays an important role in the filtration process by collecting debris from the water before it even reaches the filter inserts. This mechanical filter media installs easily over the filter intake tube with minimal disruption to your aquarium. By using the Fluval Edge Pre Filter Sponge, you can prolong the life of your filter inserts and help prevent small or baby fish from being pulled into the filter system.
Additional mechanical filter media that plays an important role in filtration process
Effectively collects fine debris from water before it reaches filter inserts, keeping your aquarium clean
Easy to install over the filter intake with minimal disruption
Prevents smaller or baby fish from being drawn into the filter
I had purchased the Fluval Pre Filter Sponge in hopes that it would slow the intake on my Aqueon Quietflow 10 filter so that my betta, Ketchup, could swim more easily in my community tank. I did not know if it would fit nor actually work. But to my delight it had fulfilled its purpose wonderfully! It fits well on the intake and still allows for my water to be filtered. Ketchup can easily swim around the tank and my 3 mystery snails often enjoy wondering around on the sponge. Additionally I like that the sponge does not distract from the rest of my tank.

This sponge fits the intake tube of my Aqueon Quietflow 10 HOB filter with no modifications needed. Now my filter will stay cleaner, and I don't have to worry about my betta's fins getting caught in the intake. Will definitely buy more of these.
Works on my Aqueon Minibow 2.5

I bought this for my betta's Aqueon Minibow 2.5, after reading tons of reviews about what tank was best for bettas and how bettas don't like the water filter stream to push them around. I know that this sponge IS NOT specifically made for this tank, but it slid right on and slowed down the water current. I still plan to trying to shove another filter sponge where the water flows from the filter into the tank, as I have read this slows down the current even more. However, I installed this sponge 4 weeks ago, and it is probably more than sufficient by itself.

We were unsure if this item would fit our tiny tank because of past experience with other brands. Lo and behold this one fit perfectly! Great product and price!
Does exactly what I need

Lost a few shrimp and a fish to the intake. So I ordered this to hopefully prevent any more losses. Only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because it doesn’t fit snug on the intake. It falls off pretty easily if you’re removing the intake to clean. But overall it’s awesome. I’ll be ordering another one for another tank I have.
Great intake sponge!

Perfect fit for our top fin tank!

We have a top fin 3.5 gallon tank and I wanted a sponge pre- filter to use on the intake filter. I bought this thinking i would need to modify it to make it work with our brand tank...PERFCT FIT! Im just amazed. Will be ordering more! I love that one end is closed so my little betta cant swim up into the filter. He loves hanging around the filter intake, i guess he thinks he is a tough guy...but in reality...he was going to hurt himself by letting his fins get sucked into the intake filter! This is great and Im so excited it was a perfect fit.

This is the sponge you get for the Fluval Spec V or III if you have a betta. The filter stream velocity is too strong and this diffuses it! The betta can still have a great filtered tank, but the water is more still, which they prefer.
High quality and better design

I have bought many intake pre filters before that I wasn't happy with because it had a hole all the way through and out the bottom. Depending on the size of your intake, those type seems to suck more water up through the bottom hole, not running it across the sponge to build beneficial bacteria. Not these! They have a hole in the top, but the bottom is closed. These work perfectly since I run several smaller sized filters on each tank instead of one large one. My intakes are smaller, but these still fit nicely without having to use string or bands to keep the top snug. I'm very happy with these and will add a few each time I place an order so I have back ups.. or start up a new tank!
