    Fluval products

    By on

Over time I have replaced all of my aquarium filters (10, 20 & 45 gal) with fluval products. When a garage sale Fluval 406 failed after 2yrs....I search Chewy and found a $60 reduction in price for the 406.....I jumped at it. Efficient, compact, easily cleaned and crystal clear water!

Quiet and great for 10 gallon tank

    By on

Originally bought it for my 7.5 gallon shimp tank. The tank was next to my bed so the filter had to be quiet. I was not disappointed. Once primed and all the air out I could hardly hear the low hum and I'm a light sleeper. It did have a little to much flow for the shimp tank so I ended up moving it to my 10gallon and it works great. Definitely recommend.

    Easy and clean!

    By on Top 500 Contributor

I really love how much of a powerhouse this thing is! We ordered an oversized 406 for our 55 gallon turtle tank since they are so messy and I do not regret it. Water has stayed crystal clear, and it's required very little maintenance. I like the lever on top that turns the water flow on and off without having to reprime, it's made water changes quick. Very happy with this purchase!

    Fluval 106

    By on

I have a fluval 106 that I've had for 5 yrs. I'm replacing it with a sun sun filter, I started having problems with the impellor the porcelain stick that suppose to hold impellor in place started falling thru the little hole of the cover that holds it in place, after trying to fix it several times I decided to purchase another filter cause I could no longer fix it and after reading other reviews I wonder if I could have got a new part but no worries I watch YouTube videos and noticed people using more than on filter on aquariums 55gal. And up and how clear they're aquariums would look so I'm gonna double up cause I have 2 60gal. And I thought that having 2 filter would probably help impellors I have a fluval 106 that I've had for 5 yrs. OK Filter but it has issues

    By on

I picked up a Fluval 406 from a LFS to replace an older filter that failed after years of use. Assembling this filter can be tricky. First, I do not trust the little red knobs they use to secure the hoses to the unit. It is difficult to make them secure and I had one come off during operation that immediately siphoned 5 gallons of water to the floor, I replaced those with automotive hose clamps. Second issue is that the impeller cover is very tight and difficult to snap fully in place. There is a little button on the cover that has the word push on it that snaps in place and secures the impeller. This must be fully snapped in place or impellor damage will quickly occur. Other than a major flood and having to replace an impellor after 3 weeks use, it seems to perform exceptionally well. Only time will tell if it will continue to do so or if there continue to be issues. … more

    Turtle Tank Fluval 206

    By on

First unit leaked my fault I applied way too much pressure on head when reassembling only had it a week amazingly enough Fluval after examining it replaced for free, not bad for payiong shipping to them. The 206 is a great unit I have had for many years and no leeks or problems with motor. Key to this unit is Maintaining it. I change media every 6 weeks , clean head and LUBE O RING with VEGETABLE OIL this keeps it from leaking as it keeps ring well lubed. When you reattach head to canister let the clamps do the work DO NOT APPLY pressure as you can crack the case. Always check the sides after you restart for any slow leaks if you do it right you should have no leeks.

    Terrible product and terrible warranty

    By on

I purchased this in store but I feel like I need to review it wherever I can. This product lasted 7 months until the motor burned out. I contacted customer service and they walked me through how to trouble shoot it. They then told me to ship the motor back to them. It states in the warranty I have to ship it back, but does NOT say that I have to pay for the shipping. It would have cost over $20 to ship it since they want it shipped with tracking. The store I purchased it from would not take it back since I do not have the box anymore. I wanted to warn people against this product so they do not go through what I have been through . Great Design, Poorly Executed

    By on

Although this filter is not one that will provide high-volume water flow, it is great as far as versatility, ease of cleaning and filtering water to crystal clarity, and the fact that it will eventually clog up entirely and stop pumping water through attests to how well it traps particals with no water bypassing the filtration medium. You will definitely know when it needs to be cleaned. But while the design concept is excellent, the actual execution and quality of these filters seems to be somewhat variable. While some people claim to get a long service life from their Fluval 10x, 20x, 30x and 40x series filters, my experience is that they have a tendency to leak, even with a new gasket installed Although this filter is not one that will provide high-volume water flow, it is great as far as versatility, ease of cleaning and filtering water to crystal clarity, and the fact that it will eventually clog up entirely and stop pumping water through attests to how well it traps particals with no water bypassing the filtration medium. While some people claim to get a long service life from their Fluval 10x, 20x, 30x and 40x series filters, my experience is that they have a tendency to leak, even with a new gasket installed, and I have read many accounts of this problem on several online hobbyists' sites. I received two Fluval 305's in a second-hand aquarium deal, and both leaked to some degree, even after replacing the rubber gaskets. One eventually stopped leaking, but the other one leaks so badly that it is now useless. Replacement parts tend to be expensive, although readily available. Also, while the ceramic impeller shaft is touted to be an engineering advancement over stainless steel shafts, I find that, besides the shaft being very fragile and easily broken, thus requiring replacement, the impeller itself wears substantially around the shaft, thus requiring it to be replaced as well. I've never had a problem with stainless steel impeller shafts causing wear to the impeller, and never, in keeping aquariums since before this type of impeller came into use, have I had to replace a stainless steel shaft impeller. I am, however, familiar with ceramic being used for sharpening knife blades--especially for the final, finishing step--so that indicates to me that unglazed ceramics like these shafts are abrasive, which, of course, accounts for the severe wear on the impeller (and the resulting noise). (As for the leaking problem, Fluval may have addressed this issue with the newer x06 models, I really don't know.) The bottom line is, if you happen to get a good one that doesn't leak, I don't think you can find a more thorough and versatile filter. Just do your own research and judge for yourself if you want to give it a try. When it works without issues, you can't beat it. … more
