I think I probably just got a bad batch of these. Some of these are ok but others smell horrible when I open them. My kitty won’t eat them and tuna is usually his favorite food.
Bought 3 of these years ago and they are still going. Very silent and works ok. Not much output for a 29 gallon. Kinda feel like I should have went bigger cause the smaller 206 was a waste of money. Just ok to maintain. I mainly rely on my hang on back filters to clean the tank and the 206`s just for biological. If I could go back in time I probably wasted money on these.
I took this out of the Chewy box and the actual Fluval box showed immediately that it was not new. The white handle that is on top of box had been ripped off and was laying in the bottom of the Chewy box. It had additional tape on the side of the Fluval box where it obviously had been ripped open. When I pulled the unit out the silver label contain product model number was damaged to the point where information is unreadable. How to I know for sure about all of this, is because I ordered the exact same Fluval 406 unit a few months ago for another one of my aquariums. Fortunately it was new and is presently working with NO problem. This is insulting that they would think that I would not notice.
I purchased the Fluval 306 to replace a Penn Plax 700, that are both designed for 70 gallons of water. My one 4" adult So. Painted male turtles water, is always pristine with care/maintenance of water and canister. This Fluval canister is resting underneath a stand, whose aquarium is a 40 gallon glass breeder aquarium. The aquarium is filled with 33 gallons of filtered city tap water, 1/2 water changes every 2 weeks and canister maintenance every 4 weeks. My small size turtle is not messy and I feed him outside of the tank every other day. This Fluval 306 canister is quieter than the Penn Plax 700 equivalent, assembly was very easy per directions, and I think it does a better job filtering. I have had this Fluval for 3 months with bottom basket having the sponges and then Polishing Pads on top, middle basket has Seachem Matrix Carbon in 500 micron bags, and the top basket has Fluval BIO with polishing pads on top. I keep a WORD document for maintenance of the 306 canister and another document, when I serviced the Aquarium as a whole with dates. I really like the Fluval 306 for my application and so will you.
I love chewy, but in this case I am going to return this. Not because of quality, but the newer model 407 is the same price point. I would hope that chewy would stay ahead of the curve and update the filters to 407. I love Chewy. Highly recommend doing business with them.
Best canister filter I could find for my 29 gallon tank. Works like a charm and would highly recommend to anyone.
Over time I have replaced all of my aquarium filters (10, 20 & 45 gal) with fluval products. When a garage sale Fluval 406 failed after 2yrs....I search Chewy and found a $60 reduction in price for the 406.....I jumped at it. Efficient, compact, easily cleaned and crystal clear water!
Originally bought it for my 7.5 gallon shimp tank. The tank was next to my bed so the filter had to be quiet. I was not disappointed. Once primed and all the air out I could hardly hear the low hum and I'm a light sleeper. It did have a little to much flow for the shimp tank so I ended up moving it to my 10gallon and it works great. Definitely recommend.
Excellent always wanted to have one of these and now I do. Work perfect and easier to clean in future. Loveit
I purchased this filter for my turtle's tank and it AMAZING. The clear is still clear after two weeks. Highly recommend for turtle tanks.
